I feel like the best way to put sonic youth into comprehendible terms is to compare them to painters. There are some real brilliant technical painters that get everything right and get the scales, proportions, techniques perfectly and have realistic art and then there are painters that use long free brush strokes. There is a real freedom about that way and something insanely romantic about it; that ability to disconnect from the convention and still make it beautiful. That's sonic youth
