The trumpet player is probably Bill Coleman, an African American from Kentucky who moved to France for the first time in 1935, and worked with Django Reinhardt..
I'm 20 years old, living in South America. I couldn't love this music more. We need more artists like him, with a classic, old school style, acoustic instruments and not that autotune crap.
@SmeeGuitar is not it annoying that people are like ..im 14 and i love this. maybe if they werent so fucking stupid, they know that jazz is for everyone. so no one gives a fuck how old you are.
the point is the age has absolute nothing to do with it. Most ppl just don't care about "real" music, they just want to have some backgroundsound to their live and maybe something to dance to, only a small part of all ppl really listens to "real" music.
@Guitar1hero23 UGH! i know!! lol half those people who are like..im a 12 year old boy with blue eyes and i like this stuff...is prolly just some old creep anyway.
@agento86 Wow, yes. I listened to some of Briggs' other recordings from the 30s, and this very much does sound like him. There is in Briggs such a heavy influence of Armstrong -- imitation almost -- but, relistening now to Avalon, I note that it's not quite exactly Armstrong. Many of the same stylistic flourishes, but the phrasing seems different, perhaps not quite as refined. Or maybe that's just my bias towards acknowledged fame over relative obscurity.
Louis Armstrong on trumpet? Yeah, 100% sure it's him. Either that, or someone trying very, very hard to imitate him, which I can't imagine being done back in the day. An amazing recording! The great jazz masters of the age swing like there's no tomorrow. And I swear Grappeli's violin must've caught fire!
omggggggggg i cant find a song from django and stephan i heard it once and i fall in loooooveeee with it, , it starts with the violin ands its dam awsome !!!!!!
Games like Bioshock and Fallout are the best for bringing the old classics so a new generation can behold its splendid wonder. The music of old will never die, if trends keep up :)
My grandpa was in a jazz band and after he died we had a party in a huge club called the avalon, imagine finding this after all these years. Its like a gift from beyond.Rip joe(grandpa),django, stephane, and music.
yes it is wonderful to hear it sorry when my english is not good but i am from austria and haven't been good notes in english good song it makes me funny(:
i think its realy cool how often djangos music is in popular culture, and me, being a guitarist for 14 years only heard of him less than a year ago.... better late than never! :)
the reason rapture has music from the 1930's and 40's is because it was suposed to have been built after the second world war and after it was built obviously no knew music was brought in so i believe thats why they have that old music in the game
every time i hear this, i have to grin :P don't know why
by the way, i don't think most kids like this kind of music. usually they write it off as 'dull' or 'old-fashioned'. it might be old-fashioned, but it's beautiful
is this the django song in bioshock when you enter the farmers market?cause i remember a crazy violin solo in some when entering the farmers market at the begining of the level

It's unbelievable how a man with only two fingers were able to do this.
And how the improvisation done by a simple few violin notes were able to achive excellence in its entirety
Django Reinhardt + Stephane Grappelli = Awesome
One of the best two man groups in the 40s- 50s, if not ever.
I also appretiate Bioshock for giving me this kind of music to add to a collection.
Somehow I feel nostalgic of this as if I heard it in the appropriate era itself...
Even though I'm only 14.
