  • YEEEEHAW god bless the lone star and blue bonetts that grace my state may god forever keep texas free im married but my true love is the pains of west texas, the hills of big ben, and shores of corpus.

  • I saw Bobby last summer performing. I too got the two Hortons mixed up.

  • lol. You used a lot of the same pictures I used in my video. Congrats on the views!

  • @333Dawncomet333 Lol ... that's a good way of getting a few extra views Christopher. I obviously had to have a look and see what images were duplicated and found not a one.

Nice vid though and congratulations on your views

  • i enjoyed the song even though johnny horton didn't sing it, but i took away much more. never knew the history of this song and appreciate you giving the explanation. --- thanks for sharing

  • @3Wander6ing That's the joy of Youtube and the internet friend. We start off looking for a particular thing and then get immersed and diverted to wonders a-new. Seriously, thanks for watching and commenting

  • i did an autotune remix of this song watch?v=zFbFl2W8e4Q

  • @extremeeXrement1 Don't do it guys.

  • My teacher, Mr.Burns was showing us this.....It was funny.

  • Yee haw!

  • Thanks for the valuable information. A great great grandfather of mine was Tom Green of Kentucky. He came to "Texas and fought at the battle of San Jacinto (near Houston) where they beat Santa Anna and won Texas indepenence. He was later one of the first Texas Rangers, fought Apaches and Comanches, was a captain of Texas Mounted Rifles in the War with Mexico, won the battle of Galveston bay in 1862,and was killed by an exploding shell as a Confederate Brigadier General in 1864! All the best.

  • @FRAGIORGIO1 Man ... your great, great grandad sure had an eventful life. Way to go being able to trace back and find out.

  • @Rikkyhardo He was quite a Fighter! Tom Green county in Texas is name after him (San Angelo is the county seat).

  • The trouble with people that don't like country singers, they are tone deaf.

  • Is it true that Brazilian Jui-Jitsu is outlawed in Texas but every orther Martial Art as well as every type of firearm and weaponry is considered to be perfectly lagitamate by Texas Law( with the exceptions of modern military weapons of course)? I heard that you guys outlawed it because it was used in 85% off unarmed assults in the past year in the State.

  • LONG LIVE THE LONE STAR STATE!!!!

  • This is the real and first song written by a black man fighting for his State of Texas

and singing about his girl back in Texas. and he is right a Texas rose of any color beats the bells of Tennesse

  • to outmendhall try the Tex Ritter version, it may change you mind

  • Sang this song when my moms friend came from texas... Even the dog was in on it! :)

  • This is a beautiful song but the problem is that it is almost always sung by country-western singers, not ONE of whom can sing worth a crap.

  • Is Bobby Horton, Johnny Horton's son? Kind of a dumb question but I want to be sure before I look like an ass. and holy shit I didn't know he had a son!!! His voice isn't as beautiful as his dads but you can't compare gold to diamonds I guess.

  • @Describingthelost No relation

  • I've found about ten other "alternative" verses for this song, over the years, including those that you've mentioned. I agree, this is the quintessiantly SOUTHERN version, and I LOVE it. I found this on I-tunes about a year ago, and they also had it listed as Johnny, not Bobby. I didn't think it sounded like Johnny, so thanks for clearing the mystery up for me.

P.S. you do great work, and I appreciate your correction! Ignore the nay-sayers; they've just got to have something to say!

  • @mysunshine413 Thanks for your vote of confidence ... all the negative comments are no problem as they promote discussion and anyway every one is entitled to their opinion.

  • A Black Man Born inTexas fighting for Texas in the war between the states Texas took side of south because Tennesse Helped Texas win freedome from Mexico ...ong was written by a Black Texan in the civil war.....LMAO EVERY TEXAN KNOWS OR SHOULD KNOW THIS FACT

  • Makes no difference to me who sings it. Real nice job on this number, very uplifting and lively...

  • @alamanderflash Thanks, just might do :)

  • Thanks for posting anyway - even thoguh being in quite a Johnny Horton mood this fit quite well in wtih his songs! :)

Good voice on that Bobby - I should oprobably check him out some more.. :)

  • @Nuroj Check out civilwarmusicstore dotcom for more Bobby Horton music.

  • one of the first songs i sang as a kid... it holds a very special place in my heart... thanks for the different versions of the song...

  • roy west

  • I really love this song and the way it's sung here.

Only thing i wish they would sing the original song written during the Texas revolutionary war. The verses talking about the civil war weren't added till much later.

This isn't a confederate song or even an American song. It's a Texas song.

  • this is my favorite version of this song. I have had this song on my computer for a long time but never knew who sang this version

  • Faved it you Brit twit..hahaha! Great job mate!

  • How does a poor lad from the South of England get embroiled in the 150 year old arguements surrounding the American Civil War (The War of Northern Agression, hahaha)? I won't touch that however badly I want to pounce on a commentor or two. I like the pics and the song. Well done spawn of satan, hahaha! I will send it to hyper-d for further use if ya don't mind laddie!

  • Hood definately snatched defeat from the jaws of victory...... and in the process destroyed the army of the west..... :(

  • @justinstigating1 As a General,he was an excellent sergeant. I've often wondered if Al Capp the cartoonist who created "Little Abner" was thinking of Hood, when he created the fictional General Jubalation T.Cornpone-the author of Cornpone's Defeat, Cornpone's Debacle, Cornpone's Disaster, and of course, Cornpone's Utter Devastation. My greatgrandfather served as a Lieutenant in the 3rd Tennessee Infantry-he resigned his commission Sept 7,1864. Smart career move!

  • I think Bobby is a wonderful Alabama treasure! Thanks for sharing, not heard this one, by Bobby

  • @southbamamike Check out civilwarmusicstoredotcom for more of his music

  • @alamanderflash Couldn't get it to go through with the actual "dot"

  • Oh man! This is great stuff. It's going right into my "favorites" file!

  • Great selection of pictures, Civil War, Western, and pin-up. Really enhanced the song.

  • i dunno, ive been out with some belles from tennessee,

  • Sad Hood gets mentioned just because he was a texan but by far the souths worse excuse for a leader. Bedford forrest said it best to him "if you werent half a man id wup yor ass" after Hood butcherd cleborne and the CSA army of the west at Franklin.

  • @antifreetrader Wasn't Hood from Kentucky?

  • @suspicious35 He might have been. his troops at Gettysburg i believe were texans but that was his command maybe not his origin. "uncle Joe" or Cleborne...Bedford Forrest those guys played hell!!!! Hood looked for a title in the papers and was a idiot at Franklin and my opinion at Atlanta!

  • I've been wondering about the history of this song. Thanks for posting it!

  • @Evangeline220 Thanks for reading it Evangeline, it's nice to know that some people take the time to look at the video description

  • Her eyes are bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the dew...

  • @AzUdo2day You'll be surprised by this one as well maybe, Battle of New Orleans ::: Lonnie Donegan and Lyrics, (it's another one about something that happened round your neck of the woods in 1815) Although I got a load of images of Google for it I prettied some of them up.

  • @Rikkyhardo Johnny Horton did two versions of that. One was specially rewritten for the British radio market. THAT's a very surreal song.

  • I don't call the Internet the "Misinformation Superhighway" for nothing.

  • Bobby Horton does alot of Civil War music. He plays all the instruments and does the vocals himself and then edits it together, he does an amazing job. I love his work.

  • What a beautiful song. Thanks for the upload. Best regards form, Turkey.

  • a beautiful song and a very interesting history lesson, thanks.

  • ok this dude sucks he cant sing this song at all it sounds very horrible

  • @H3LLZFURY29 You need your ears checked. Or maybe you should just stop listening to all the current "singers" who couldn't carry a tune in an iPod if it weren't for Auto-Tune

  • this is def not johnny horton voice.... who was bobby horton??? i see that alot of folks said this was bobby horton.... surely not johnny!!

  • The first time I heard this song out of Texas, I started to cry.

  • I often hum the tune to this when I read Emily Dickinson.

  • @MrHeslopian Hahahaha, I do that too! My HS English teacher mentioned it, and I haven't been able to stop since.

Because I could not stop for death

    He kindly stopped for me

The carriage held but just ourselves

    and immortality

  • @alamanderflash Strange experience at first, isn't it? Especially when you consider that Dickinson's poetry was so dark, and this so jolly and sweet. :]

  • can some please tell me who was singer of that song thank you

  • @swampy870 Bobby Horton

  • @swampy870 thank you very much smrt

  • Not Johnny Horton you scammer

  • @youtootube99 unintentional scam ... but apologised for

  • I think this video goes to show that illustrated women are, and always have been, better than the real thing.

  • Its BOBBY Horton!!! Was recorded in the 80s.

  • @kiernan775 zodiac and alamandeflash ... I guess if you guys say so it must be Bobby, sorry about that. It was sent to me by a mate who said it was Johnny Horton.

Still a great cover of a beautiful song.

  • @Rikkyhardo No hard feelings, it's a common mistake. I figured it was something along the lines of your explanation. I'm a fan of both and know their voices about as well as I do my own. I'm just glad this song is up for people to listen to and learn from your notes.

  • @alamanderflash much appreciated mate and thank you for making me feel less of a plonker.

I learnt a lot from sourcing the information and pics. It was obviously a massive part of the USA's history, and I genuinely like this guys adaptation of the song.

  • yeah that isnt johnny hortons voice :)

  • Actually this is by BOBBY Horton, no relation. I've had it on tape since the early eighties, bought it at Stone Mountain.

  • THANK YOU! This is the version I remember from my childhood. :-)

  • @Exzeluke ... hmmmm's as I scratch me bonce again

  • Beautiful!

  • This is my second favorite of this song! Johnny Horton is great.

  • This is an outstanding version of this wonderful old song. I really appreciate you posting it...many stars...

  • It's good to know you liked it Ron .... thanks for you and the guys' jamming ... I really appreciate you posting them
