  • Did boss gave you a GT100 for a demo? they should, many GT10 users picked up gt10 because of your demos

  • hi glen, how did you plug in 2 fs 5u pedals? the gt-10 only has one jack for ctrl 3/4, how did use seperarte pedals? cheers :)

  • @userpipe I use a standard Send/Return cable from HOSA

  • Can you get the volume pedal to control the amount of gain? So it's clean when the pedals all the way back you can roll on various amounts of gain with the pedal? If so. I'd love to know how!!

These are some of the tones I'm getting from my GT10 /watch?v=BDpSBv7CdNc

  • hi glenn im a big fan of your videos, i want to know if you are planning to upload some more videos of g-system and more of its features ?

  • @itaybryt Hi, unfortunately I don't have to G-System anymore. BUT, NEW GT-100 video coming soon.

  • thank you glenn for share it... it works great!

    greetings from Bolivia

  • hey glenn where did you get your case??? thanks!

  • @userpipe Rondo Music. Model # CNB-PDC 4100G

  • incredible tutorial!!! thanks for that!!!!

  • where did you get the control three and four pedals?

  • @TFDwolf I think I got those at Musician's Friend. You can get them on many of the online retailers.

  • hii,, glenn..big fan of ur tones...use all the tones you use in x3 live.....here i want to know the signal chain....do ur guitar cables go straight into gt10...and where do u put control pedal 3 and 4...im confused...how to use them??

  • @tuhinsengupta649 Yes my guitar goes into the guitar in of the GT-10. The control 3 & 4 pedals are connected to the external pedal jack on the GT-10 using a standard send/return cable.

  • what's in pedals 1 2 3 4?

  • @jasonism123 1 is always chorus, 2 is always delay, 3 and 4 are different for every patch. There is alot you can do if you have the extra pedals hooked up to this.

  • Hi, can I transfer your setups to mine using the USB feature?

    Please, let me know.

    Thanks!

  • @2MakeTheDifference Yes, watch my tutorial on loading my tones into your own GT-10.

  • The difference, for me, is that the GT-10 is like a masive toolbox filled with shiny precision instruments that can be infinitely adjusted. The X3 Is a basic toolbox with a few large, easy to use tools. I own both an XTLive and GT-10 and I basically dont use the XT Live anymore. Plus, the GT-10 has the amazing, wonderful EZ Tone function where you can create and tweak any conceivable tone in about thirty seconds. The X3 sounds...okay, but I gotta say the GT10 just sounds better.

  • How do you connect the Boss GT-10 to the amplifier?

  • @JesusTZR You can go right into the front of the amp like I do or you can use the 4 cable method if your amp has a serial effects loop. Google it to find out more about the 4 cable method.

  • @extremevideopro but which way is better???

  • @ephiphone35 It really depends on the amp. If you research the 4 cable method and learn more about it it you should be able to decide which way to go.

  • What is a better effects processor overall, a boss gt-10 or a pod x3 live?

  • Please post more hi gain patches on your blog.

    Yngwie malmsteen style.

    I loved your patches,and your songs :D

    Cheers.

  • hey i need some help here. I want to learn how to do something like this : ctl1 turns wah wah on/off, and i want to make ctl 2 to turn pedal bend on/of, is this even possible being on the same patch?

  • @LionHeartPortugues No you can't use the Wah and pedal bend at the same time because to use the pedal bend the Wah must be turned off.

  • @extremevideopro but there should be a way to turning on wah wah and pedal bend on the same patch. something like : CTL 1 turns on wah wah CTL2 turns of wah wah and turns on pedal bend. I wanted to do this because while playing you can hear a small pause when you change patches or banks.

  • @LionHeartPortugues No I don't think it can be done. sorry.

  • @LionHeartPortugues Id just try buying an inexpensive wah pedal like a crybaby and put it in the effects loop of the amp or the GT-10

  • Glenn, you use to have a video on assigning the dual channels or signal paths do you still have that video posted, if not can you repost it?

  • @Jimster99 Hmmm, if I did that video (which I don't remember doing) It should still be in my list of videos. I have not taken any of the GT-10 videos down.

  • Glenn, You have two FS-5U pedals. Do you know if one FS-6 will do the same thing before I buy one? Thanks, JP

  • @hdrivenow I don't think so. I remember someone having problems with them because that are the latching type. The FS-5U's are non-latching.

  • So how do I do it? How do I Set up a Bank rename it to the song and add the 4 patches to the newly named bank?

  • @hdrivenow set up your patch like you want it and hit the "Write" button. There you will see you can save it to any bank location you want and name it what ever you want. You can't name a "bank" of patches, you can only name the path itself. So each patch in the bank would have it's own name.

  • In my typical band setting I play ten songs all of which use three to four different Patches. I need to see how patches are grouped together so that when I need to play song #4 (for example) the three or four patches made for song # 4 are ready and available. It seems to me that I should be able to have a list of songs saved in the GT-10 where upon selecting a particular song all of the patches (effects) 1, 2, 3, 4 are right there in front of me ready to go. Help! Thanks JP

  • @hdrivenow Yes, just use a different bank for each song. So bank #1 would be song #1 with 4 patches, then bank #2 would be song #2 with 4 more patches and so on and so on.. You have 32 banks I believe. You should try to consolidate though. In the 2 bands I play in, I do a total of about 80 songs. I can do all of these songs with about 6 banks. So I have really only 3 or 4 main sounds and everything else is a variation of those sounds with different effects.

  • hi glenn! how do you connect your GT 10 ? greats videos! thanks!

  • @ddstalta I just go right into the front of my amp.

  • is £299 a good price for a gt 10

  • @guitartom747 Yes I would think so

  • @extremevideopro hey thanks i didn't ecpect a reply :)

  • i just finished watching your videos and i just found out that you're an awesome singer as well, you sang my favorite TAKE IT EASY by Eagles with baltimore orchestra and you nailed it man! keep rock'n!

  • @hotshothitman Hey thanks

  • tnx for the reply, i will start tweaking mine tom and if you don't mind i might ask help again. cheers!

  • hi glenn, i just wonder if you can help me im a newbie, i got a jet city combo 20w and i like the overdrive of this amp but once i connect my gt-10 on it i lost the original sound coming from the amp it changes everything, i just want to use the effects from the gt10 without losing original overdrive or clean tone of the amp for some of the songs. btw, you got awesome videos and very helpful! tnx

  • @hotshothitman Just plug your guitar in the GT-10 and out of the GT-10 into the front of your amp and turn all of the effects on the GT-10 off. Then only use the effects in the GT-10. You can switch the GT-10 into manual mode. Which will then act as a traditional pedal board.

  • Oh I see. Well then what is that amp behind you? Also what software are you using to record to the computer?

  • @skunizzi Oh, I'm sorry. I have many videos and I forgot about that. Yes, this one is recorded with the amp. It's a Traynor Custom Special 50. I took a direct line from the back of the amp XLR right into my computer.

  • Nice sound. What amp are you using there?

  • @skunizzi Not using an amp here. This is recorded direct to computer using the GT-10 only.

  • what are the names of additional pedals u had there? i wanna have them too.

    Thanks,

  • @tonybagyo Those are the Boss FS-5U pedals You will need a standard send/return cable also.

  • Thats a great video Glenn. Thanks ....Keep posting these- please!

  • Hey Glenn, there is any diference on using the Boss FS-5U (Unlatched) or the Boss FS-5L? I saw that FS-5L comes with an LED to indicate status, has in the GT-10... wich is better? (for use has ctl3 and ctl4)

  • @scaflan2000 The 5L's need batteries, the 5U's don't.. The 5U's do a good job for me so I like them.

  • @extremevideopro Thanks...

  • @scaflan2000 5L is latching, means it is ON when you stomped on it, and you have to stomp on it again to turn it OFF. 5U is Unlatching, means momentary ON. 5L can operate without batteries. 5Us are better in my experience.. You wont have to worry if the switch is on or off when you change patch.

  • you just sold me the gt10 glen, thanks im getting it next week. also, where did you get the ctl 3 and ctl 4 stickers for your fs5 pedals?

  • @bluze86 I got them made at a sign shop. Very cheap to buy.

  • @bluze86 when you buy the fs5u pedals they come with numbers that's how mine is set up in case you can't find a sing shop near you.

  • dude, u r awesome... i got a gt10, paied 420 euros, and i didnt get that awesome distortion of metallica, offspring, etc... and i still cant have it with gt10 and i saw that distortions from other rock bands playing live, but i have much much better distortions thanks to u. thankx,

so, dude, i have a boss foot switch. a simple one. just 1 pedal, and i can use it to change channels in my amp. but with gt10 i dont use the amp dist. so... can i use my foot switch as a control 3 pedal?

  • @EADiogo It might work, just plug it in and try it.

  • man you are a legend! gonna get me some of those external ctrl pedals!

  • Interesting, so the global setting are at twelve o'clock, maybe the lows at 1:00 pm. I will have to try this with the distortion cut back. Thanks!

  • @espltd56 Yes now when I say "global" I mean in the System settings menu. Not the knobs under the screen. Those are the tone settings for the patch. The Global tones settings are in the System menu on menu page2.

  • Hey Glenn, I really enjoy your videos and they have been helpful, even the patches. A quick question though regarding tone on the GT 10. What do you recommend setting the main tone levels to (low, mid, & high)? I plug my GT 10 direct into the sound board and I use the direct settings. I am always looking for the perfect tone when we play out live. Finally for distortion levels, where do you recommend the drive be set to. I know it's subjective but I figured I'd ask! Thanks!

  • @espltd56 I actually leave the global tones settings to default, maybe roll off the lows just a bit. As far as the amount of distortion, that depends on a per patch basis. Generally I don't set the distortion over 50%. Anything higher than that starts to get noisy and too grainy. if that makes sense.

  • God dammit this Translate Captiosn thingie is funny.. Try it out on this vid... Now I know why it's still on BETA :D

  • On the boss me-70 you can use the expression pedal as a speed ramp for modulations effects. Can you assign the expression pedal on the gt-10 to work as a "distortion ramp" which decides the amount of distortion? Would be pretty interesting..

  • Yes you can do that with the GT-10. Not sure about the ME-70. Does that have assigns??

  • @extremevideopro no, it doesn't. it's a very standard effects processor :P

  • Glenn, just wanted to take the time to thank you, once again, for the help with the ASSIGNS function. You made everything crystal clear. I'm using the FS-FU pedal for boost, for live playing and it is the BOMB! Thanks again, my friend!!!

Oh yeah, love Zeppelin excerpts. What a voice!! Is there anything you can't do??

    Scott

  • You're welcome Scott. Oh Yes there are a lot of things I can't do but I'm always learning!!

  • Hmmm... fair enough... I used to have a TS9 back when I had my first combo amp... I agree with you regarding the quality of the sound of a real TS... Nowadays I just have my guitar, the GT-10 and a Marshall solid state, and I find GT-10`s TS simulation pretty good for me...

Where you using those 2 external pedals on this video?

    Thanks a lot!!!!

  • No I was not. All the guitar sounds you heard was the GT-10 and my tube amp only.

  • HI there!!! Excellent tone... Pretty cool those assingments... I`m using them as well and I found them to be very impressive... But a quick question that keeps ringing in my minde here: Why you`re using a TS9 and an external EQ pedal, since GT-10 already has at least 3 EQ modules, plus an excellent simulation of the Tube Screamer?

    Just wondering...

Thanks a lot for your videos, and kee up the good work...!!!

  • The GT-10's TS is not quite as good as the real thing and I have the external EQ for use as a clean boost when I need it.

    Thanx

  • hmm...I see.I've also heard that about the X3.I guess i'll just have to test them a lot before buying. Thanks for your help Glenn! And keep up the good work!! :)

  • mostly on stage and rehearsing with the band..which is the best?and would you suggest using it with an amp or direct into the console?

    thank you!

  • That's one thing about the GT-10. It works great with an amp or direct. You will need 2 separate patch sets though for the different applications. While the X3 sounds great "direct to console" I had the hardest time getting a good sound with my amp.

  • Hi, Glenn, for a player who wants good distorted metal sounds in the style of metallica, slayer, korn, disturbed etc. which is the best choice? GT-10 or X3 Live? i'm not very much into effects, my main concern is good heavy and warm distortion..thanks!!

  • That depends on if you are going to be using an amp on stage or if you are going to only be using it for direct recording.

  • Glenn:

I have been driving myself nuts trying to figure this out for my leads. Up until now, I would step on a different patch altogether. when I go into a lead. Now with one push of a pedal give it a little boost and add some delay and voila!! Thanks for all the cool info you provide for the equipment you use. I'm really enjoying my K4 also. You're the best!

    Mike

  • You're welcome Mike.

  • why do you use your thumb as a pick? even at this genre?

  • IDK man, It's just how I play. I have been playing with a thumb pick for 40 years.

  • when you post EVH pacth sound?

BTW, very nice this turturial 5*

  • Hey Glenn ..

I see you have your AMP channel pedal ... but can you not have the GT-10 also switch you amp channels as long as your amp uses a standard 1/4" input for amp selection (not some proprietary input)

    I am sure you can

  • My amp has 2 channels but also a boost on channel 2 so I would need a special stereo cable (not just mono to stereo) also I would have to have a dedicated pedal on the GT-10 to switch or I could assign the switch to one of my patches but since I don't have the cable I use my amps switch box.

  • Got ya ... !!

  • GT10 > ALL OTHERS

    Love me GT

    Thanks again Glenn ..

    U - R - D - Man

  • Glenn Thank you for another good tutorial. Now I know somewhat more about my boss :) You really should try zoom g9.2 tt. It sounds much more natural then boss but ... I think it is much harder to get good tone with it. Perhaps not for you :) And you almost talked me into buying X3 (still don't have it) but not live. I heard to many negative opinions on X3 live. Greetings.

  • Hey Glen,

What happened to you X3 Live tutorials? Turned your back on it?

  • Hey bro, nah I still use my X3-Live for recording but it just does not have this kind of flexibility for live use.

  • Thank you for another great tutorial Glenn. It is also great to know that you didn't abandon your X3 live. Will you posting any tutorials or demos for X3 live any time soon? I think It has been while :)

  • I may, last one I did for X3 was May of last year. Not too long ago.

  • Great vid, Glenn! You're the man!

I miss this control possibilities from GT...

Let me ask you: Are you using a HC to enhance your sound? Are you using preamps from the GT or only from the great Traynor?

Thanks again, your videos keep inspiring me!...

  • Hey Alex, I am not using the HC anymore. The only preamp I use in the GT-10 is the R-Fier Modern. Most of my patches though use only the OD stomps and the Traynor preamp.

  • Glenn,

This was VERY helpful. You are indeed a very big blessing to the GT-10 User base. Thank you very much.

I've been waiting to figure out how to use my 2 controllers. Didn't realize you could have 8 assigns per switch. Very powerful feature.

    Mark

  • You're welcome, hey I was just experimenting with something that's really cool. I am using Delay1 which is a dual delay that allows you to have 2 delays at different time settings. (many players like to have this sound) So I just programmed a patch that has a slight delay on but using an assign I can switch from the slight delay to a louder delay with more feedback and level. Very cool stuff!!

  • @extremevideopro You know Glenn, you can also set the EXP1 to control the effect level of the delay. For example, heal down would make the effect level 0. And as you push down, the effect level would go up and up, very useful.

  • Yes that is another great way to control effects on the GT-10.

  • can u plz do some xt live demos and patches? plzzzzzzzz

  • Glenn, thank you for the heads-up on the "Using the Assigns" video. I've been experimenting per your instructions, with great results, and the video absolutely makes this process so much clearer. Can't thank you enough! I'll be watching it over and over, so that it really sinks in. Also, is that "MESA GRINDER" patch (U7-3) new? Or is it is among your existing patch downloads? That is a great sound. Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to do this!!

    Scott

  • Hey Scott, yes that Mesa Grinder is in my updated bundle on my blog. It is part of my AMP ONLY patch set.

  • @extremevideopro Thanks Glenn...once again!

  • great!!!

  • Wow, I have had this thing for a month and still every day I am learning about its capabilities. This was an important find here, so if I have understood correctly, not only can you assign up to eight events per patch, but you can assign all those changes to ONE control button!! That is really cool, I mean talk about minimizing the tap dance. This is a very well thought out piece of gear, I am glad I bought one. As always, an great video. You pretty much get an automatic 5 stars from me now.

  • cool vids Glen sub to my channel to its one of those if you scratch my back i will scratch yours to kind of deals man peace

  • Hey Glenn just a question... wich is the diference between the 4 cable met. and go direct from de GT-10 output to the RETURN of the amp? (using only the poweramp)

  • I think the 4CM bypasses the amps preamp section. Your amp has top have an effects loop to use the 4CM.

  • Right but, connecting the GT-10 output to the RETURN of the amp bypass the preamp too, so, wich is better? 4CM or go directly to the RETURN jack?

  • I think it really depends on the amp. If i were you I'd try both ways. i tried it with my amp but found I had a better sound just going into the front of the amp.

  • Nice Glenn!!!! Your playing is always inspiring!! I'm trying to learn the GT 10 and your vids are very helpful....this one I will have to review a few times to get the hang of what your doing exactly, but at least I have a lead in to start! If I was able to mess with it more, things might progress quicker, but I'm a weekend warrior due to my work and such......

Thanks for all your help man and most of all, KEEP ROCKIN!!!!!

  • Excellent my friend....

  • Thank you
