  • His leg is so messed up. How did he live and not senna

  • It's amazing to see the things that the human body can handle i'm happy he survived

  • I am watching the Senna documentary and just saw this for the first time (haven't been following F1 for that long) and i was amazed he was able to survive that. i'm glad to see that today the cars are so safe, because as he said, there is more to life than driving a race car.

  • @TheYankeesdawg LOL That is exactly why I'm here too. I thought he was 300% dead after seeing his motionless body lying on the track like that. They don't show the video in the movie though.

A really miraculous escape from death...

  • Watched the SENNA movie and thought he was dead.

  • @therealdefpunk same... i had not seen it before i thought he was dead for certain so did senna

  • a true miracle...

  • oh my goodness im glad he is okay and he was very lucky to be alive he just drove the same car that almost killed him in this years goodwood festival of speed

  • 0:18 :O

  • 10 dislikes? Cos you didnt see him nearly die?

Some people are blood thirsty dickheads! Go watch the fucking UFC!

  • respect to you mate, amazing. just too bad ratzenburger and senna didnt have the same luck =[.

  • @chinkyrussian

yup :( both in the same weekend aswell.

  • With all it's faults, always loved Estoril as a circuit, also esp Peraltada .final corner in Mexico (hope I got the spelling right..it's been a while!!!)

A promising career cut short with Donnelly, it would be interesting but pointless to wonder how todays cars would fare in such a shunt

  • @2zorro3 This accident didn't happen in Estoril, but in Jerez...

  • he looks like nick griffin leader of the bnp...

  • I wish gilles villuneuve survived, both men had the same sort of crash

  • @MrBv256 not really, Martin hit the barrier head on and Villeneuve hit the back of Jochen Mass' car which flipped him into the air and he was launched out of the car as it cartwheeled. Two very different accidents.

  • @nunslittletoy But they both got flung out of the car.

  • @MrBv256 No they didn't, Villeneuve got flung out of the car. Martin hit the barrier and the car disintegrated around him. Martin's injuries were horrific but he didn't break his neck and that is what killed Villeneuve.

  • the luck of the irish!

  • Woow!! That steering wheel...

  • He was very lucky, a crash like his would have killed anyone. But Martin was very lucky, someone was certainly watching over him.

  • he crashed a kiddy car?

  • In what year was the documentary filmed? I'm guessing mid ninety's?

  • he looks like Nick Griffin lol

  • @watanabehefuml yeah, lets put nick griffin in an f1 car and see what happens

  • The cockpit seens quite weak in his car, since he was ejected from the car with a huge piece of the car still attashed in his body by the belt..

  • @jerryaltman That was due to the sheer force of the crash and safety standards at the time were not adequate enough to deal with that sort of crash.

Thankfully Donnelly lived but it was a big shame that it ended his career seeing that he had just renewed his contract with Lotus for 1991, he had a bright future in the sport, not a world champ but he was certainly a future race winner.

  • ok why does this say career ending crash when it clearly says he's racing again?..............

  • It crippled him and ended his Formula 1 career.

  • The career that ended was a F1 career.

  • F1 career ends :)

Sure he have to race again, very good talent & driver

  • amazing

  • great martin one of the best helmet in F1 story

  • Considering after this crash which he survived and was in a coma for 3 months and remains in good health able to walk and talk perfectly is an absaloute miracle. Brilliant to see

  • jeez what a man! very sad to see his career cut short but man was he lucky...Legend!!

  • just found this video where you can see the steering wheel

  • c'mon guys this was friday first practice.....there is no footage of the crash...there are photos of him hitting the ground or sliding across the racetrack but no footage....sorry but that is the truth.

  • I never said there was footage of the accident itself.

  • @avidal7 and no TV coveraged the free practise?

  • @MrPifta possibly Eurosport covered the Friday practices back then but the TV Cameras were not pointing in that direction at that time and since the stands seem to be pretty empty it is very unlikely that there is amateur footage either. IMHO if anything this accident would have look like Jean-Louis Lafosse's accident in LeMans in 1981, the car going into the ARMCO finding the softspots but then hitting a reinforced area and exploding in the process.

  • Holy crap- that steering wheel. . .That's a helluva reminder indeed. :-O

  • Best wishes for him, regards from Chile.

  • Spirit unbroken !!!

  • hhaha this guys my chemistry teacher:)

  • What are you smoking?

  • haha hes mine too. no joke

    hi warren

  • @F1V1 What ever his chemistry teacher cooked up, I'm sure. ;)

  • @F1V1 GOOD SHIT

  • @quickhaze101 and you are my sex slave

  • Donnelly did much better then Damon Hill did F3

  • I maybe wrong, but I dont think there is any footage of the actual crash, only what we see here.

  • No, there was actually footage of the accident itself around at one point, but I wouldn't know where to look for it now.

  • Have you seen it? I have to be honest I would love to see it, probably the worst ever crash I think, how he survived, a miricle.

  • I've never seen it for myself but a lot of my online racing buddies have.

  • and it would have been before all the recnet safety stuff the drivers have now!

  • There was a video of the actual crash at one point on YouTube but I do believe it was removed.

  • What?

  • When I saw his accident I really thought it was worst than Gilles accident but fortunitily he survive.

  • Thanks for sharing this video. It is a shame that such a nice guy like him had his career cut short by this accident.

  • He had a very promising career and could well have been a success in F1, his 1990 performances were excellent being as good as Derek Warwick most of the time.

  • That corner looks much more dangerous than Tamburello

  • Holy shit, what a crash. Does someone has footage of the crash itself?

  • I believe it's somewhere on YouTube, although I'm not sure who has it.

  • that Lotus-Lamorghini racer was like a BLATANT DEATHTRAP
