the wave was come from vancouver, bc "The wave is believed to have been created in Vancouver, British Columbia by a marketing campaign for the local soccer team the Vancouver Whitecaps, in which they got the crowd to perform this for a commercial in which their slogan was "Catch the Wave." as well as all towel waving during the playoffs, started in 1982 in the stanley cup finals between the vancouver canucks and the new york islanders

sorry but this was invent by the mexicans althogh not in the world cup in the 80's as most people beleve. It has been aroundin mexico scince the 70's but you are right in saying the first big wave was in the early 80's because the origonal ones in mexico only consistd of a few hundred. I dont knoe why but america seems to be the only country not to commenly refer to it as the mexican wave

I was at that game. I graduated RU this year so I no longer get free tickets to the games =( and all the scalpers jack up the prices for the general admission seats.
