  • Good point, and appreciate the idea. I too have always thought, why do they not show how diverse their products could be. However, not sure if it was just the recording sound, but it still sounds thin and twangy fro me. I am sure if herd live it may have more heat to it. Again, thank you and agree that Dr. Z has sold them selves very short with the demos so far (twangy and thin).

  • I can't speak for all DR.Z amps, but the Maz 38 is quite versatile. 4 x el84 tubes give it chime and enough power to be on stage. This vid's tubescreamer bit is astonishing.

  • @Brennansdad Astonishing? You never ran a TS into a Fender or VOX before?

yep the MAZ is great if you can get over the harshness....

  • GGillett77, Understood and thanks for the reply. BTW, you are three times the guitar player that I am!

  • Larry, thanks for the comment. I actually made this short clip by request of musicians who had contacted me, and in regards to some conversations with the fine folks at DR Z Amplification. there are a lot of videos on you tube showing an uncolored dry signal, and my angle here was more towards the modern rock player, to make a point of information that a DR Z with the correct pedals can hold it's own on any stage, playing along side any of the high gain amplifiers on the market. Thanks - Gary

  • yep just like sticking distortion boxes in front of any clean amp, like what people had been doing for years with black/silver Face Fenders.Nothing new here except the name.

    This is somehow surprising?

A BF Showman or HI-WATT with the Plexi-Tube produces the same result.

  • At the risk of sounding negative, I would appreciate more of an opportunity to hear the amp and guitar without the pedals. So often well intentioned guitarists can't seem to resist the temptation to color thier tone with effects and it's difficult to evaluate a guitar and/or amp's real tone.

  • hows the head room on this compared to your Maz? Does it break up pretty easily?

  • @rockerverb08 -- It holds the clean well, and maintains clarity at "stage" volume. You can air brake it and get the grit. I should add that my PRS uses vintage humbuckers which i coil tapped at the beginning of the video. I have a guitar with high output humbuckers and it will distort much easier. the maz has a gain and a master knob and will break up more. Both are absolutely amazing with pedals

  • Thank you. It surprised me as well :)

  • Sounds fantastic man! im blown away!

  • Hi I'm kinda on the fence I've always wanted a soldano slo for van halen ratt dokken but I live in an apartment. My Marshall Vintage Modern is too loud and I dont like the tone. I also dig brad paisley and chickin pickin country sound. I was thinkin going with a stang ray and using pedals I have a wampler pinnacle 2 reissue fulltone ocd boss metal zone and if I get the Z I'll eventually get a mad proffesor mighty red dist for dokken slo tone What do you think can the Z be an everything amp?

  • It is a great little rig and will do all of the above given you drive it with the correct pedals.. I use a Bogner Ecstasy, as well as a 1987 Marshall JCM800 (Model 2210 - the only 2 channel 100 watt 800 made) for bigger shows, but the Z , can do big shows as well I just need a little more Z in my monitors for outdoor shows or clubs that hold more that 1000 people where the 4x12 cabs typically give me enough stage volume just out of the amp if i'm close enough to it.

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • Hi, do you know how much Stang (head and 210) weights?

I have just read its specs on DrZ´s site buy it doest have this information.

    Thanks.

  • Cool! I know people appreciate seeing real tests by real people of stuff they like. This makes me consider Dr. Z a lot more!

  • A store near where I live is finally getting some Dr. Z Amps and, now that I've seen this video, I want to try one even more than ever before!

Your playing is just fantastic and so is your tone!

  • Also, how is the headroom on this amp? Since there is no Master Volume on these amps, I'm guessing if you want a loud clean tone, you just crank the volume on the amp and adjust the guitar's volume until it cleans up the way you like it? Please post more vids soon, you are a great player.

  • @guitarslinger123

It is plenty loud for most small club applications. I use 2 different mics on the cab for our bigger shows and pan my signal left / right out the fronts of the PA. It sounds huge like that. I use a 57 on the top speaker and a 506 on the bottom. I used to play 100 watt heads all the time but this rig is much more user friendly and continues to impress even the biggest critics. they cannot believe the "rock" sound that the plexi tube has with this amp.

  • Country AND Western ;)

  • Gary, can't wait to hear the blues driver and let's hear some more of that tubescreamer. Show us your settings also. Later, Brett

  • I just added a Keeley modded Blues Driver to my setup and I'll post a new clip soon. I finally bought a Video camera, so no more digital camera vids. Thanks everyone for you comments G~

  • Great demo. Too short, but great. This amp makes me want to believe in EF86 channels again.

  • Also, some of the best TS tone I've ever heard in a demo.

  • awesome lol!

i love the ending!......"so dr.z's aren't just for country". haha this demo is awesome! I think too many ppl over-rate(sorry dont know if thats the right word)these amps as just a country amp maybe cuz greats like say Mr.paisley? Dr.z's are one of the BEST amps PERIOD for any kind of playing and this demo is a testament to that !!

  • The Tube Screamer sounds great! You can keep the other stuff.

  • "Dr. Z amps are not just for country", second that. I have a StangRay also, no country here either. It's a great Vox like sound. Very overlooked for pop/rock. Better for us though. We know the secret.

  • I have a Stangray as well. Amazing amp, and I don't play country.

  • I'd love to hear more of just the guitar straight into that Stangray; the non-pedal bit was good, but how about more?
