  • @virginboy92 Oven that u posted this in. 2009 oops. Ever mind but even the new releases best to do a clean installl

  • @Omri617 It's best to do a clean install invade u did an upgrade from leopard

  • wtf???? i'c counted(is this the word?) the time of the startup application , safari is not 10 second but 5 (sorry for my bad english)

  • haha. My old Power Mac g4 boots quicker than both of these. 18 seconds.

  • Wow! My Mac Mini with Snow Leopard only take 10 seconds to boot up and 4 seconds to shut down!

  • You are testing a Mac against a Mac ... right ...

  • hey man nice video. btw I just noticed that there is some memory usage shown on top of your screen whats that application called? thank you

  • @Armour200 thats the screen recorder Screenflick

  • oh snap i never thought there would be that much of a difference in app starting times, tempted to get snow leopard now but im probably gona wait until lion if its compatible with my mac :))

  • Ok this video looks like it was made for noobs to buy Snow leopard ......done a single speed test on my leopard for iTunes and i got 3.2 secs NOT 10.1 secs as stated in this video this is a complete joke waste of my finger typing energy !!!!!!!!

  • On My Hacintosh .. core i5

some programs faster than stopwatch .. like mail and safar

  • Thx for this video

  • @redleader55yt Its probably because he doesn't understand the concept of quitting applications in Mac OS X. He thinks that just because he "exes" them out that they are quit when in reality they are still running. If you have a bunch of apps running and then you try to open another app, it will take longer. Yes Snow Leopard is faster than Leopard but this video does nothing to legitimately prove that.

  • The fact that you know apparently nothing about computers disheartens me. Please don't make a video about computer performance when you don't even know what defragging is. If you dont know anything about computers, there is no way for you to run a test in a fair manner. Other commenters have legitimate points about whether leopard was a fresh install or whether applications were closed before the next was open, etc. It annoys me that your response to questions is always "i dont know" or similar

  • what is your problem? why are you taking this so seriously? this was just a fun little test, nothing scientific here. and I never stated that I was a computer expert. snow leopard runs faster in every way on my computer, thats all that I wanted to show. why don't you relax and get passionate about something that really matters in life.

  • @the7awakening it annoys me that you take this thing seriously like a professional performance test and then have to write a whole paragraph about it. dont watch or comment if it bothers you.

  • @the7awakening hard disks only fragment using Windows. This video is comparing two versions of OSX. your argument is irrelevant.

  • @the7awakening if I'm a mac user I wouldn't care what defragmentation means... okay? besides if you know what it really means as a process you should know it's not good to do it... often. And when it comes to defrag I prefer clear installation of the whole OS.

Appreciate the effort ikicaq has made and stop beeing such a jerk!

  • @the7awakening Shut up fag this guy was just doing a cool speed test on the2 different OsX. Calm down ok

  • @the7awakening under OSX and whit his "Journaled" HFS partition you don't need to defrag your hard disk because the files are written in a different way than Windows and his NTFS or FAT32 file systems... i think that ikicaq meant this.. the most we can do under OSX is repair permissions with Disk Utility..

  • @the7awakening you moron. First of all - Obviously both os were not fresh-installed.

2nd point - OSX does is not affected that much by defragmentation, especially when it boots up, since files needed for a boot up are located in the "hot sector" of HDD.

3rd point- All modern macbook pros have at least 4 gigs of ram, WHICH IS A LOT, meaning you still have LOTS of ram even if you have lots of apps launched.

=> the only idiot who does not know a shit about computer is you

  • lol, my Mac OS 8 is faster than both of them

  • lol my tiger is as fast as that

  • Yes, SL is faster, but the problem is that I have a G5 which is still quite powerful, and Apple decided to make SL Intel only. But I think Leopard is still quite fast.

  • Yep. Snow Leopard is faster.

  • Comment removed

  • @jasper561996 Tiger had a blue background :P

  • @mufcsupporter1 Man I remembered that comment, I was so stupid on those days

  • @jasper561996 You can delete it xD

  • @mufcsupporter1 Oh yeah, deleting it now!

  • Leopard boots in 32 seconds, which is very fast. It's up to about twenty seconds faster boot on Leopard than on Windows 7. Snow Leopard boots in 27 seconds, which is even better. Leopard shuts down in 5 seconds; that is truly amazing. Again, it takes over a minute for Windows 7 to shut down. Only 3 seconds on the Snow Leopard shutdown is like heaven!!

And i have a 2 gig 7 lap top which is the recommended ammount to have it be fast.

    Macs win!!

  • Nice!!

  • Nice video.

LOL, my hackintosh with Leopard has your Snow Leopard times.

    My spec is:

    1,8 Ghz Core 2 Duo

    4GB RAM (800Mhz)

    nVidia 6200 PCI-e TurboCache 2.0

    7200 RPM HDD (Barracuda ES)

So it isn't the newest of hardware, but still I get your snow leopard times. Guess my system is OK then. It sometimes shuts down on 1 sec...

  • @nordemoniac WE WANT PROOF

  • Eyh! Don't give me that "negative comment"-thingy. It's true! I don't know why! It's just an OS! Someone wanted proof, so I'll se what I can do. I don't have any cameras available.

I didn't say. "OMG, he's mac is so slow!!", I'm just saying that my Hackintosh is as fast as his Snow Leopard. Considering that I have a 7200RPM HDD (mine is stationary) and he has 5200 (Laptop) It's a considerable difference there already! My Garageband etc. launches even faster than on his Snow Leopard.

  • @nordemoniac It will probably end up crashing your computer.

  • @elfontherun What do you mean by that? The computer is 100% stable.

  • @nordemoniac I just mean that putting outside hardware on a computer is always risky. That's all.

  • @elfontherun The only thing I'm doing, is putting OSX on a computer. No other hardware.

It's not a risk, as Apple uses Intel CPUs too. The only crash you might experience, is a kernel panic. But how often doesn't Windows lock up? ;)

I've never experienced a kernel panic with iPC 10.5.6 Final.

  • my safari run very slow to open. it was not like your computer with leopard.

  • what is the soundtrack?? :)

  • yes it is! its 4 GB !! yazanarabiat ~

  • I like the soundtrack.

  • your video is quite flawed, when you measure the times for opening applications, you never quit them completely, they're still active in your dock. so there for most of the speeds would DEFINATELY be faster

  • yeah but if he does the same on both os's then it is fair? :s

  • Nice video ikicaq.

Question. Times on Leopard were measured on the original install? I am wondering if the HDD was defragmented before or during the install of SL? That would improve the times for apps on SL. True or False?

BTW - for anyone seeking improved perfromance, I occasionally use iDefrag and it improves performance considerably.

  • yes original factory installed. no defrag. honestly I don't even know exactly what that is? thats the reason I switched to Mac so I wouldn't have to worry about that stuff.

  • @ikicaq So yo wouldn't have to worry about defragging? It's just as important on Mac as it is on Windows.

  • Why SL is amazing and cheap?

  • ¿linux? ¿windows? ja...jaja.... JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA

  • Hey i have the 13.3 macbook (the regular one) and just got the snow on it BUT THE STARTUP speed isn't better than the previous.. is there a problem?

  • @Omri617 your mac must be at least 1 GB (ram),is it ?

  • @Omri617 Just because your computer is starting up slower doesn't nessacarily mean that its the Operating Systems Problem. What it could be is your put a newer OS on an older computer and chances are your older Macbook is running at the minimum system requirements. Giving it more RAM might help your situation.

  • @Omri617 what year is it from

  • two over priced pieces of technology.

Sexy looking none the less but extremely over priced

  • When you do the comparison for opening the Applications, you still have the previous ones you opened running in the background. Would that not affect time to open the next Application by a significant amount?

  • I don't think so, but even if it did it doesn't matter, Snow Leopard is still quicker whether the apps are running in the background or not. that was the point of the video.

  • actually, he's right, a background process, especially a screen recorder effects the time by a LOT SL is faster, but the times are of by at least 1 second!

  • Beautiful!!

Another reason to keep thinking different!!

    Thanks!!!

  • Mac just works.

  • i mean mac just Works..... WORKS WELL.

  • you love apple, isn't? you have the macbook and the iphone

  • grreeeeeaaaaaat video!

  • wow im so going to go buy upgrade my o9 mac to snow leopard right now b4 the apple store closes

  • omg, at the snow leopard shut down, that was really fast lol

  • thanks for video

  • no problem, thanks for watching.

  • Did you do a clean install?

  • no, just did the upgrade. my MacBook Pro is just a couple of months old, so I didn't think it was necessary .

  • I see, and I guess you have like 2 GB of RAM. My iMac 2.16 GHz is also pretty quick with SL, but things like the fade in of the desktop after Startup aren't apparent on my machine, I assume because I only have a gig of RAM.

  • MacBook Pro 13.3" 2.26GHz upgraded to 4GB ram.

  • Perfect video ...

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks for the video man, Thats really awesome to see. I have Snow Leopard and I am enjoying the new features, but to get a speed comparison like that is nice!

  • No problem, glad you enjoyed the video, have fun with Snow Leopard.

  • sorry for the bad music, had to do an audio swap.(youtube music library)

  • What is this song anyway?

  • I don't know, some classical song.

  • Awesome job, thanks.

  • Very well done. The speed increase is dramatic. And all this, AND users get back around 7GB of HDD space. When was the last time an OS upgrade gave you MORE free space?

  • iPhoto seems insanely faster now!

  • it was about 6 seconds quicker for me

  • Yes I meant regarding your video almost seamed instantaneous 4:13

I haven't got my copy yet, waiting for it to ship :)

  • Can't wait till my Snow Leopard disc comes in. Great video!

  • just don't expect everything to run smoothly, there are a few bugs. it will take some time to get everything sorted out.

  • Very good video. well done.

  • Thanks!
