  • Absolutly facinating, such a shame that that model is now in such a mess. Would have been a museum piece now.

  • so the reason why theres 2 mast vent thingys next to the fwd mast is because they used the S.S. Athinai as a base model for on deck scenes, and they couldnt remove the 2 masts on the ship so they just added 2 little ones the the 55ft long titanic model to make it fit and make sence?

  • @tomyv1661 - This was just ANOTHER massive fowl up where the film was concerned. The simple task would have been to remove the cowl vents from the ATHINAI as she was waiting scrapping. But the FX department decided to make miniature versions for the 55ft model instead. Totally pointless.

  • 1 question about the pic in 1:29 , why is the model in that position there? Its like sinking... was there an accident or is it just for laugh??

  • @TheRMSAndre1 - The model was attached to a hydraulic arm which aided the model during those raising sequences. The model is seen here being pulled back down to the bottom of the tank while attached to the hydraulic arm so another raising scene can be filmed.

  • Hi, I have been a fan for many year, since I was in grade school. Because of this movie, I actually believed that the Titanic was completely intact when I watched the movie for the first time. It's so sad when I discovered that it wasn't intacted throught Discovery Channel. I just wonder if someone out there has the desire to contruct a new 55ft Titanci model again?

  • I do, but not the same size...i tought of makng half the size of this model. So about 8m long. Fully metal hull. Im going to wait the summer and then ill see if could build it in my country house. Now im making a paper Titanic wreck model, 1:350 about in size.

  • @Milvert08 Well to be fair, when the movie was made, most experts thought the sihe did go down in one piece.

  • I can't find them! I need help... desperately!!

  • There are a few pictures in the video that I need to help me with my Titanic novel adaption. The picture from 2:24 to 2:26 and the pictures from 3:18 to 3:36, I need them. Could you please tell me where I can get them from?

    Please respond.

  • Those are from original photographs that are owned and copyrighted to ITC and myself (Jonathan Smith)

  • Many of the images seen on such search engines like 'Google' are posted onto websites about the Titanic. Images showing the model today came from Steve Rigby and Jon Hollis. Many of the 1980 images are from ITC and posted up by fans like myself who had the task of obtaining them. They appear on such sites like 'titanic-model(dot)com', 'titanic-titanic' and 'encylopedia titanic'.

  • Was the tank used for other movies?

  • Yes, many others, including tv shows and tv commercials.

  • Fantastic, really cool, thank you.

Do you know what is it on 0:56 on the bow?

  • Thats one of the water pumps that sat within the hull. You can just make out 2 of the bolts sticking up. I would say this is the pump fitted beneath the tip of the fo'castle and used when the ship breaks the surface. You see that huge rush of water that gets sprayed high into the air.
