I can attest to how important gears are. I just low side my ninja 500 last night and I was spared the pain because I was wearing my gear. I just got up and picked up the bike and kept on moving. So I agree that gears are very very important.
My friends have bikes and they always pick me up and take me where I want to go but they drive around with no gear (at all) and so do I in the back.
However if I get my bike (hopefully by summer if I save up in time) I will definetelly get a helmet gloves a jacket boots and trousers.. I don't see why people don't wear them personally I think they look cool. People with no gear look poor as if they can't afford it.
yea i got my ninja last week, and put 500miles on it in a week! the bike is so fun and joy to ride, NOT heavy at all, extremely forgiving. But after all, this is my first bike and im already feeling that it is slow and i'm not going to blast any bmw and mercedes cars. From 0-60 it's okay, you can beat a civic but not blast out and after 60 til 100, it's slow just like a yaris. This bike can only compares to a civic si, and the r6 = bmw m3. very good for beginner, i like my ninja!!
@Island728 Well congrats on the new ninja and putting 500 miles on it in a week.. thats pretty impressive... I have smoked a fair share of civics and mercedes already.. once you get used to the bike.. youll be able to push it harder...

I am a student too. now, I'm just wondering, do you wear your riding boots in class? :-/
I mean, unless your campus have lockers for students, it wouldn't be practical to carry around your full armour, aye?
wearing full armour around in campus wouldn't be cool too. it attracts attention which I definitely hate.
installing box is a big NO-NO.
so, how do you overcome this, really?

you can get bike jeans that are way tougher than normal jeans and they have a bit of padding
