When I was about 8 or 9 years old my Dad would put the BBC on TV and I got home from school, with this on. I seriously loved it and I preferred this dude over Napoleon Solo.

Ahhh good times. It was always this, Randall and Hopkirk, The Avengers, Captain Scarlet or something bizarre like Liquid TV to look forward to when I got home on a Monday night. Old fashioned punch ups like they had an abundance of in this TV series will always stay dear to my heart

Not accurate, Jutland. Bronson and McCallum were never friends. During filming on The Great Escape McCallum introduced Jill to Bronson when she was visiting the set. Months later they reconnected in LA while McC was off on location. When she told McC she was leaving to be with Bronson, McC walked away from his sons completely, and his second marriage to Katherine Carpenter has lasted to this day. Ireland and McCallum reconciled while she battled cancer and he played golf with Bronson.

The network execs wanted the producers to "Get of rid of the Foreign Guy" so they got rid of the other Chief, but the execs actually were referring to David McCallum

Bronson was his best friend who David trusted to take care of his ill wife Jill Ireland. This was in 1963 or 64 before David became famous. Bronson never apologised for stealing his wife. David got famous, and was called the "Blonde Beatle" and was mobbed by women just like The Beatles were. He was free to go out with any woman he wanted. The joke was on Jill for leaving him. He is happily married to an American wife and has 2 children.

He loves his show playing "Ducky".

@katrinablue In defence of DMC, there is absolutely no way he would have deliberately walked away from his sons - all his interviews show that he is a very devoted father (now grandfather) and I've seen a beautiful photograph of the whole family - David, Katherine and all five children - taken at David's home in 1971, not long after the divorce, "at a time when everyone was very happy". He is in close contact with his two eldest sons to this day and sees them constantly when filming NCIS.

@justaprojection He told Jill that if she left him for Bronson, he would turn his back on them all permanently. That was spoken in a very understandable moment of anger, but in fact though he made occasional visits and calls at first, and sent a card now and then, there were long stretches (years) when there was no contact. Jill and David did eventually reconcile after the boys were nearly grown, and he and his children are now much closer.

D called it fiction - but no outsider willl ever know the real truth. J’s tragic illness may have been a result of sacrificing her career to both husbands - often at the root of breast cancer, sadly. But when she left with CB in 1967, D let her take the children, the house and all their possessions. Credit to him for keeping in touch despite that.
