  • I thought this was a cover of the Fleetwood Mac song...silly me. It would have been better than this. Then I see Laddy Gags, Depeche Mode, and Mayday Parade have used this title as well.

  • This is going on repeat..over and over and over again.. speaking mountains to me

  • I'm almost embarrassed by how much I identify with this song.

  • Thank you Fiona.

  • This song speaks to me so profoundly. .

  • its a song about her lovely! i have found mt lovery!

  • Damn good song babe!

  • FUCKING AMAZING!!!

    DAMN FIONA IS SOUL MUSIC...........

  • NO ONE can portray such intense emotion like Fiona. Her lyrics pierce your soul deeply.

  • I prefer Fiona's more jazzy songs. Sorry, I don't like this song. Maybe not yet.....

  • @koradueno ?

  • Why always her unreleased version is better than released version ??

  • I think this is my favorite Fiona song. Beautiful, amazing song.

  • i've always thought she sounded like joan armatrading here.

  • I found this song, and 'Window', the day after my boyfriend broke up with me for someone else. She's the only artist I know who has been able to capture every emotion I've ever felt in verse.

  • The Amount of Emotion Expressed In This Song Shoots The Stars ..... I Will Forever Be a Fan and I Might Add That is One Pissed Off Piano!!!!

  • I got unconditional love for this song.

  • The final "What wasted..." is one of the most powerful vocals I've ever heard. This lady knows how to convey emotion!

  • wow... her voice is so shakey here... she seems like she's really feeling this...

  • YES. The vocal that made Jon Brion cry upon hearing it. Nothing could be better...

  • @iantuition i'm gonna be honest, fiona's voice is the only one that has brought me this close to tears once at largo. I wasn't even sad, buy she overwhelmed me with emotion

  • she is not from this planet , love u Fiona

  • "What wasted unconditional on someone who doesn't believe in the stuff"

This means something different to me than Fiona means it in the song, but I guarantee you it means just as much.

And, I respect the hell out of anyone who can sing that lyric like this amazing woman can!

  • Awesome version!

  • YES! this si the version I fell in love with.

  • She is only 32 years old......I bet she is working on another album........damn I hope so.

  • This and Paper Bag are my favorites by Fiona.

  • Fiona feeds the soul, man.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting the unreleased versions of these songs. The record company absolutely butchered these songs so that the album could actually come out.

  • "My peace and quiet was stolen from me

When I was looking with calm affection

You were searching out my imperfections."

    "What wasted unconditional love

    On somebody

Who doesn't believe in the stuff."

  • one of her best songs ever!

  • hmm i wonder if lady gaga took a liking to this album, aka this sounds like speechless!

love this song, she is such a talent

  • @MafiaVirusAlias WOW So right you are.

  • Comment removed

  • @MafiaVirusAlias Please don't compare Gaga to Fiona...That's like comparing the Monkees to the Beatles. Have some class. Lady Gaga is cool but she is not even close to being in this league.

  • oh yeah and... Matty Chamberlain for the win.

  • It took me a few listens to get into the 2003 release but now I prefer it. Just 'feels' more Fiona to me. This is one of my most favorite songs...

  • thank you pandora for introducing me to this song

  • this could have definitely been a single

  • She understands me too well.

  • same.

  • I swear she and Sarah Blasko have been stalking me, writing songs about my life and then travelling to the past and releasing them.

  • @reasonformirrors i've always thought this.

  • Oh what a cold and common old way to go

(dont know why that speaks to me so much...but damn, it does)

  • My peace and quiet was stolen from me...

that's mine. dunno why it says so much to me either. she just has this way with words that makes it so easy to relate.

  • o-o.. She totally wakes me up with her words to lil' things I like to deny.

It feels really good to hear her honest words.

  • i know what you mean. to this day, "Pale Spetember" is my favorite song of all time. ...and I'm a HUGE Tori Amos fan! lol I love Fiona Because of her honesty. I've loved her music from day one.

  • Fiona, I know what you mean.

  • sure this version has more raw emotion, but i can't get over her shaky voice, it's too distracting.

  • Comment removed

  • @camoisano omg the shaky vocals are so moving ... maybe while she was recording this, she was really emotional, and it helped her vocals come out sounding so fragile ... one of fiona's very very bests ...

  • " oh well." I love her writing.

  • WHAT WASTED UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.

  • it so weird to hear these versions of the same songs. they sound the same, but her emotions are more pronounced and it's less polished.

  • *sigh* this song just never ever gets old. It's so beautiful.

  • there aren't many people that can put certain things into words but fiona apple has the talent to articulate things that you think but just can seem to put. words.......OH WELL!!!!

  • This puts the regular version to shame. Record company swines!

  • What wasted Unconditional Love,

    On somebody who doesn't believe

    In the stuff,

    Oh well.

  • well the first realease of this album WAS this version.. then somewhere along the lines the second version came out, she wasnt fully satisfied.. then a third version of the album was released... all three are nothing less than her usual amazing pain drawing, love bearing masterpeices!!!

  • Quit being so literal...I think this is one of the most passionate and beautiful songs that she has written. Who cares if it is an oxy moron? That is art...it shouldnt always make sense.

  • oh yes this forgot about her even if she,s Hot just don,t keep up like some songs .

  • this isnt the unreleased version, the unreleased one has a bit of drum play and fiona has a lesser angsty voice like this one.

  • This isn't the version on the major release of Extraordinary Machine. There may be a third one floating around but this definitely isn't the MAJOR release.

  • the original version of extraordinay machine is way so much better than the relased version ... it makes me sad : (

  • she means she wasted unconditional love on somone who doesent believe in unconditional and/or love in general ...

  • does someone know what does she meant/refer in the part: What wasted unconditional love

    On somebody

Who doesn't believe in the stuff

    ?

what stuff does she reffer to?

  • She's referring back to the unconditional love she gave. Her unconditional love was wasted on someone who didn't even believe in the stuff, ie unconditional love. Yeah?

  • ohhh thanks, i was kinda thinking that, but i didnt know how to interpretate my english is not too goood

  • yes, this one is slower. and there's something about the piano

  • It's the percussion. This version's cymbals are being played slightly different. Also the album version is more percussion focused and it doesn't clang as much. Although it's a cleaner instrumental to me, I prefer the vocal of this one.

  • yes the voice is filler with feeling...like if she was singing from the very deepest part of her guts lol

  • I listen to this version 10 times a day...literally. I wish they could of mixed this vocal with the finished instrumental. She was probably exasperate when she re-recorded it it couldn't capture that feeling at the time.

  • agreed.

    sigh.

    damn record labels.

  • Why the hell wasnt this on the album. Her voice is more heart felt and raw. and the piano is more in the front of the track with her voice than the released one.

  • because sony SUCKS and didn't let her release what she wanted ... the original and BEST version of this album as a whole ....

  • this is heaps better than the released version. i feel more with this version than the other one.

  • I think the album version is better. You can focus more on her voice in that one. It might just be my fave Fiona song of all time, and that's saying a lot!

  • her voice sounds like jesus here!!!!

  • the mastering its also different the keyboards is more listened alsgo the wind instruments.. and also slower

  • Extraordinary song!

  • how is this different than the album version?

  • It's slower, she is also singing a tiny bit lower. This version is raw, the one on the album is more polished. Both great.

  • what an amazing song, she's so great

  • This is BY FAR the most honest expression of heartbreak I have ever heard...it's beautiful!!! I love Fiona!!!

  • I totally agree with you. her voice in this song makes my heart break for her.

  • THANK YOU WONDERFUL BEING!
