  • Excellent video. Shame they didn't explain the really controversial submission miss in the GSP vs Dan Hardy fight which was the Kimura miss.

  • @GracieAcademy seriously your dad did not create ultimate fighting championship. he competed there. You give your familly way too much credit

  • @MickeyMike41 1st. Their father (Rorion) was the co-founder of the UFC. 2nd He never competed in the UFC it was his younger brother Royce who won UFC 1, 2, 4.

  • I wanna thank the Gracie brothers for talking about the difference between UFC an a street fight..there explanations were clear an simple to understand..I have always been a striker fighter my whole life, an i am convinced that every fighter needs Gracie Jiu-jitsu..I HOPE AN PRAY that the Gracie Academy will come to hawaii or do a seminar here..but if they did in the past i feel like such an idiot..much respect to the Gracie family..

  • Man these guys are high on life. Such charismatic, happy individuals.

  • I train Muay thai, but find these videos fascintaing..and the two guys are really good at explaining each move, and its obvious they are extremely passionate about their art.

  • you guys are awesome, you inspire me to train smarter not harder

  • yeah its retarded how people are mad at gsp for not being able to finish the fight, instead they should be impressed by hardys defence.

  • @idiotfacer agreed, same goes for the Shields-Gsp fight

  • good vid

  • ur face is gonna smash in da CEMENT LOOOOOOL

  • hahaha i love how they speak perfect englsh but still prnounce is zhoo zhitsu! hahaha, but with that said, i love these videos. Always suuuuper educating! Keep em up.

  • great explanation now i understand why hardy didn't tap His arm was sideweis not strait, It was all about sub defense, failed Sub offence by Gsp, and Heart by hardy!!

  • so good thing's ^_^

  • could you please do the bader vs jones ufc 126 submission guys?

  • damn do all there names start with r and pronounce as h or am i trippin

  • i know everyone else already said this but you guys should have done the kimura i would have liked to see that broken down

  • not trying to say you are wrong but, gsp does have better striking BUT he's not a better wrestler than shield and by far, shields is a multi time wrestling medalist, also has compited many times in jj competitions and has medal in fact one of those tornaments gsp was submitted by marcelo garcia in the first eliminatory round and shield submitted marcelo in the finals of that same tornament to be the only american to medal, shields is a specialist he does have the edge on the grown

  • @ItsAndrewKun MMA jiu jitsu and wrestling is different. Striking makes a big difference to the dynamics of fighting. I think GSP has the best wrestling in MMA.

  • @LuqmanNaq you might be right gsp does have the best wrestling that we know of but all Im trying to say is to not count shields out he has proven himself already

  • @ItsAndrewKun That's true. If Jake can get him down, it's gonna be a battle.

  • @LuqmanNaq Ya but getting gsp down is much easier said than done haha

  • @ItsAndrewKun

yea but gsp has outwrestled wrestlers with just as much credentials, and bjj guys with just as much credentials, shields wont be able to get it to the ground and if he does gsp will get right back up, he'll dominate shields, nothin new

  • People don't respect Dan Hardy, and say he has no wrestling/ground game, but obviously he does.

  • They should show the kimura

  • what about the kimura

  • The Hardy fight shows you how Shields wins this fight. Hardy is a mid level purple belt.

Jake Shields is at the highest level of grappling, not just BJJ, grappling, TD's, throws and he controls scrambles and transitions.

  • @mixmaster2669 It shows nothing. I'm far from a GSP nuthugger but he's stylistically Shields' worst possible match-up and is probably going to make him look stupid. Better wrestling and monumentally better striking, not to mention it doesn't appear that Shields can make 170 without sacrificing cardio anymore. Even if he gets him down you're acting like St. Pierre is going to be easy prey because he botched an armbar. The guy isn't as good as Shields in JJ but he can hold his own.

  • @Kagemusha08 it's gonna go to decision though.

  • @Kagemusha08 what people don't realize is that gsp is an amazing jiu-jitsu artist he has a black belt in jiu-jitsu

  • Lol this is awesome, I especially enjoyed the Street Swtich since I am learning self defence. Also the guy in the white pants so fricking hilarious, doesn't seem like he is trying to be funny and is anyways.

  • Great stuff. So entertaining. So interesting.

  • Love this! Come to Utah!

  • I like that they had footage from the fight in this one. First one I've seen that has that

  • Hey I trained with these guys in Torrance!

  • I had the pleasure of having Rener come to my Taekwondo school for a seminar last year, after a year of training in Gracie Jui-jitsu I have more confidence in my limited Jui-jitsu skills than my black belt in Taekwondo

  • These guys give me appreciation for the ground game.

  • gracie created ufc? umm...what?!

  • @LoneBaldEagle Silly fanboy.

  • @kirokyukan How is he a fanboy for knowing the history of the UFC? Your silly for being a dick.

  • @LoneBaldEagle Rorion did, he was one of 4 co-creators.

  • why did the kimura not work? they did not break that down.

  • actualy instead of getting your head slamed like that you can use your hands to post if he trys to slam you

  • i arm bar a lot of people but it's almost ALWAYS belly down for some reason. i've been trying to figure out why.... no real complaints, i just don't really understand why it always always happens

  • @Desarollo26 because people who dont know what they are doing dont have a good base and fall over...and when you go for the armbar their weight is towards your belly down therefore they fall that way because they dont have a base

  • @clokedbigman thank you. that makes a lot of sense. i think you're right people must not have good bases so they are bellying out. the other thing i realized is when i start to armbar someone and they try stacking me i automatically squirm my body in a way that makes them belly out. it's sort of hard to self-examine, you end up grappling so much with few stops and by time it's all over i always wish i could watch some tape or something. anyways, appreciate the knowledge very much.

  • @Desarollo26 glad i could help

  • is this contest over? lol i'm gonna go ahead and assume the answer is yes

  • As a wrestler, I have a good understanding of whats going on from the ground. Though being on my back freaks me out because of my background. Though all the leg riding and some of the counters from the ground are exactly what we practice.

  • @SirFrankoman

Being on my back freaked me out really good my first class.

I bridged like a madman, gassed, then promptly got demolished by everybody...twice.

But yea. Wrestling is just a whole other level of situational awareness IMO which translates really well into MMA and everything else in general.

Glad I took a those months off for wrestling season.

Now if I could get my little cousins to stop asking me if I can show them the "6-1-9" or whatever the hell else they see on Pro Wrestling.

  • great video. I certainly enjoy watching ufc/mma far more now that I have a very basic knowledge of the ground game.

  • And knowing is half the battle.

    Well presented guys!

  • keep it up, you guys are great.

  • I love all of your videos. I think I'm moving into the %10 but still have alot to learn. I hate the MMA fans that don't comprehend the intense mental and physical stress put on both fighters when the fight goes to the ground. This fight was one of the first that I got to PPV pre order and me and my friend were both curious as to how Dan Hardy survived, he has heart. But in the end GSP dominated the whole fight :D keep posting please.

  • they r really good.......

  • i wish they had also gone over the kimura attempt

  • What impressed me wasn't their knowledge of their jujitsu, but rather the clarity and professional eloquence in their teaching.

  • "I am not going to tap. i am not a quitter.." = *Snap* Career ends early..

  • Is it just me or does the gent in blue sound like the ''bone my girlfriend'' guy from Family guy lol

  • Is it just me or does the gent in blue sound like the ''bone my girlfriend'' guy from Family guy

  • @The0extra0guy The Gracies are to busy, but I'll bone your girlfriend...I mean, what are friends for afterall............BUDDY? You don't mind letting my barrow her do ya pal? I might even leave ya a trophy :D hell, I'll let you watch if you pay me

    :D

  • @daltonsbadboy You really can't read can you?

Also tbh I doubt you'd be so ''kind'' if u met me in person and I think the missus doesn't fancy catching ebola, thanks anyway um BUDDY? :D

  • What abuot the shoulder lock that GSP faild on the same fight???

  • If the entire Gracie family is as pleasant and energetic as these two, I'm not surprised at how successful they've been. Thanks for the videos!

  • i personally think that when the fight hits the ground is when the fight actually begins. i know plenty of knowledge about bjj. all thanks to the GRACIES

  • @65Diesel1 so true

  • i personally think that when the fight hits the ground is when the fight actually begins. i know plenty of knowledge about bjj. all thanks you the GRACIES

  • so let me get this straight....the gracies learned ju-jutsu and rebranded it as their own? correct? Then certain members of the family put out a challenge that nobody could beat them, despite the fact that they were students of the art mere years earlier? I doubt it was gracie ju-jutsu before the gracie family learned it..you get my meaning??? But in all fairness the family got skills

  • @shantolog I'm not sure I get your point.

  • @whatdupdoh bit of a drunk rant there sorry...it just seems alot of people think there was nothing before or after bjj that is anyway near as effective for combat and also try to distance it from judo as a completly different combat when they are EXTREMELY similar ( I'm refering to judo as a whole not olympic rules judo)

  • @shantolog Helio Gracie took the failing dying art of JJJ (Japanese jujitsu) and completely remade it form the ground up and created the applicable beautiful art of BJJ (Brazilian jujitsu). That is why they say no one beat them. Royce has never tapped. There is a reason that the family got skills.

  • @NickLMacDonald first off I was actually mistaken by saying they learned ju-jitsu it was judo they were taught, kano was trying to establish it as a worldwide sport hence a representative was sent to brazil. my problem is not with the sport because i actually train in it, and judo, because i acknowledge the differences in styles, my problem is with people who wont acknowledge the origins of it and see judo as inferor.

  • @shantolog Yeah, judo beat out jjj in japan a long ass time ago. And then we knoew the rest. But I agree with you Judo is bad ass.

  • i wanna see these two guys roll, that would be entertaining

  • this situation in a street fight scenario? you arent going to have 2 people with mma grappling experience in a street fight. most likely its going to be one person with grappling experience in a street fight, and they will own the other person regardless.

  • Comment removed

  • i love there videos

  • 8:15 !! lol...gracie is a trekkie!! he said "klingon"...

  • Im proud to say that im 1 of that 10% :)

  • great vids guys keep it up! more 10% ppl needed!

  • Yea that's good most people dnt understand the positioning nd other stuff that's going on while they take it to the ground that's stuff isn't as easy as it looks I been in jujitsu nd muay thai nd boxing for about 2 years nd I'm only a purple belt at jujitsu nd on freshmen year I started wreslting maybe that will help alot to for peoples understanding

  • i suscribed, now i am proud of myself haha

  • I like how you give the options if it were a street fight as opposed to a padded mat, and what would be the alternative move to keep from being slammed into concrete.

  • I love these guys, I first heard about them after the fedor loss and joe talked about these guys breaking down the fight, and I just watched this vid and it was very good again, i just subscribed.

  • @kramer911 i just did the same!

  • Very informative. Thanks!

  • these guys really like talking with thier hands....guess its cause their so hand on???goog videos, keep em coming

  • these breakdowns are very informative ..and in my opinion will help- speed up the learning process of why fighters do what they do..keep em comin you da bomb!!!!

  • these guys are the best explaning bjj, and it is true.. most of the people look at it as gay stuff. but they dont understand at all what is happening in the ground

  • these dudes are awesome

  • great review! love the gracie bros!!!

  • Hey guys I noticed with GSP he didnt have his knees pinched together. Would that have helped in getting the tap? Thats for the video. Great job guys.

  • These videos are great and really well done. You can tell the gracies are just all around happy people. Brazilian jiu jitsu is great and in my opinion the best fighting style. My friend and I are both practitioners of BJJ but we don't attend legitimate classes. I wish I had the opportunity to join this wonderful community but I just can't afford it. Once again well done guys and keep it up!

  • I remember watching the fight wondering why his arm didn't break. Great video. They are right about fans that boo but when we watched this fight we enjoyed the ground game of both of them. The fight was a fantastic advert for BJJ, Kos daley on the other hand was the worse i ever saw. Kos just lay on top of daley and gets a coaching role on TUF. That is what annoys the british fans. Our wrestling may be shit, but you shouldn't be able to win a mma fight without aggression.

  • Please breakdown the kimura of gsp on hardy

  • japanse jiujutsu would fucking kill these sambo bastereds. their neck would get broken

  • video follows Carlos Gracie's recipe, just with a modern vibe. I recommend his biography to anyone interested in BJJ: Carlos Gracie, The Creator of a Dynasty. he was really the Godfather of Jiu-Jitsu and Vale Tudo.

Look forward to watch more breakdowns of fights like this, maybe even bringing coaches from other disciplines that could explain the intricacies of muay-thai, wrestling, boxing or even karate to the average MMA fan without actual fight/training experience.

  • @jpxxx That is a very good advice. I hope the Gracie bros. will listen to you but something tells me they will not consider bringing in coaches from other disciplines because what they are trying to do is advance they're BJJ lineage.

  • @cdejean22 yea I agree with you. but it sure as hell would be wicked to have a complete breakdown of the big MMA fights. hope someone follows their example and actually improves upon it.

  • @jpxxx Me too...That would be a great program for SPIKETV to consider. Kind of like the way they have the program, THE DEADLIEST WARRIOR and how they break down the traits of the warriors and why a certain group will have an advantage based on their skills. Who knows, maybe SPIKE is already working on it.

  • very good breakdown of what happened. thanks.

  • That GSP X Dan Hardy made me start training Bjj.

  • who would use BJJ in a street fight?

  • @SouthWestKing227

Anyone who was in an extremely mismatched fight(giant guy vs not so giant guy), anyone who was stuck on the ground with his opponent on top of him throwing punches, or anyone who wanted to end a fight without giving the other guy a concussion.

  • awesome! i love this. If you guys could please do a breakdown on some of the jason brilz, big NOG fight that would be sweet. There was alot of grappling and ground game in that fight as well

  • Excelente Breakdown. Porém, senti falta de um comentário: GSP poderia ter fechado bem os joelhos... Durante toda a execução do arm-lock, ele mantem os joelhos bem abertos. E como sabemos, é fundamental fechar os joelhos para aumentar a pressão. E é claro, acertar o ângulo do cotovelo e quadril.

    Abraços,

    Daniel Azevedo

  • How humble and relaxed these guys are for being who they are. Truly the mark of a martial artist. I think this is the distinction between “fighters” and “martial artists”. Open an academy in Ottawa, Canada....LOL... Thanks guys.

  • Damn these brothers are so cool, knowledgeable, and humble.

  • what about the kimura GSP couldnt finish??

  • heres my entry

  • when are you guys gonna choose the winner for the video because i made a video but its not posting as a responce so i sent it to u guys on inbox

  • Awesome video!

  • Hi guys I made a video responce for the contest but for some reason its not posting as a responce to this video but its on my chanell so you guys can look at it there and im also going to send it to you in a message i really hope you guys like anywas peace

  • I made a video but for some reason its not coming as a video responce so here is the link I really hope you guys choose me as the winner

  • Heres my video hope you guys like it

  • Fantastic!! Thank you for this great video!

  • Hey guy's, I hope you do a Koscheck/Daley breakdown too. There was a lot of grappling there, and alot of thing that casual fans may have missed or not understood. Thanks

  • looks like queers

  • Donald Cerrone vs Ben Henderson 1 Breakdown. PLEASE!!!

  • These guys are charismatic, knowledgeable, and funny! Please do more videos; your enthusiasm for your art is infectious!

  • This is great... I am by no means a JJ practitioner, I have flirted with kick boxing and have little idea what to do in a street fight. But I love when passionate people talk about their love!

  • lol these guys make me laugh

  • I love all the analysis this is great stuff. These guys crack me up though they remind me of Bill and Ted's excellent adventure or Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott

in "Dude, Where's my car?" LOL Great stuff and THANKS guys keep em coming....

  • These guys are great. Analysis dead on. John Machado showed me the belly down transfer way before this. It still shows that even though GSP has a high level of grappling he even has years to go. GJJ or BJJ is endless and it takes many years to have a black belt level game.

  • (con.)

However, look how Royce fought in the UFC. It looks like a very crude version of the MMA you see today, and this guy was trained for "street fighting".

Would very much like to train from these two, respect them completely, but let's face it: GSP would smash any of the Gracies in a street fight. His athleticism and full-time training have given him too many techniques and too much power, even if it is centered around MMA fighting.

  • While I agree a street fight doesn't exactly look like an MMA fight, I don't see how anymore than 5% of the stuff used in MMA is non-street-applicable. The bit about how they said a street fight is "completely different" from an MMA fight depends on how you interpret it, e.g. a street fight is unlikely to go more than a couple minutes due to people's adrenaline and lack of intelligence when it comes to fighting/ignorance of technique.

    (con.)

  • Lol, alot of keyboard warriors here who have never rolled thinking because they're from "The Underground" they know whats up.

These two are BJJ royalty and were 110% in this analysis and on their opinion of 90% of people not knowing shit about fuck with regards tot he ground game.

BTW, GSP's BJJ better than Silva? Silva is freakin a Nogueira black belt. WTF

  • Good job .

  • @rickmoor1 You were not listening. Your in the 90% that doesn't know shit.

  • @fatguyonthc Ugh. Good call, man. I evidently don't know shit. I was in too big a hurry to spew my sour grapes. I just get extremely offended when people criticize GSP. I'm not his #1 fan or anything, but he is amazing. I also hate everyone that I talk to saying Silva would destroy him because his BJJ is so much better, when, IMO, Rush's ground game is light years ahead of the Spider. Plus this had to be one of the most condescending fag fest vids ever.

  • I think you're missing the point. They're simply pointing out how MMA fights can differ from street fights. They're not criticizing GSP or Hardy either. Instead, they're taking some BJJ stuff that happened in the fight and teaching you about it. Many people wondered how the fuck Hardy's arm didn't snap, including me. They're simply explaining it.

In addition, the part about the UFC champs using BJJ as their primary weapon isn't really relevant, and the "10%" part is true.

  • im gonna post a video tomorrow hope i win

  • im gonna post a vid responce tomorrow

  • Excellent explanation, analysis and tutorial.

  • what about the kimura?

  • Donald Cerrone vs Ben Henderson Breakdown???

  • great stuff

  • Fantastic! Please keep doing these MMA/UFC breakdown videos because whilst the UFC is as close as sport can get to a "real" fight, obviously there are rules which don't apply on the street. PS: Looks like there is a puddle to Reners left - time to get the roof fixed!!!

  • hey guys, awesome video, and i love the work you guys are doing. curious though.. how did you guys get the 90%-10% statistic?

  • You guys are the best! Best ju-jitsu instructors

  • Hey gracies, you're talking about americans. I heard the japanese know what's going on when fights go into the ground

  • Excellent breakdown! It's always good to know that the Gracies are still teaching BJJ with not just MMA but also practical MA in mind. I wish I could find a gym with that type of broad scope, not just competitive MMA/jiu jitsu. Gracie family = world's greatest martial arts legacy.

  • Nice vid guys :) I'm a big fan of Gracie bjj so keep up the good work.

  • that's funny how you guy talk alike

  • This is why Fedor beats everyone. He knows ground and stand up. He always bellies down his armbars and doesn't need no Jui Jitsu to do it. He is a sambo and judo fighter. He didn't need BJJ or any special "Only Ground" grappling style.

  • @Supersmurf62

um...you do realize they incorporate Striking, and Sambo and Judo are both derivites of Classical Jiu-Jitsu. Also Jiu-jitsu has just about every single move Modern Judo has in it.

  • @Supersmurf62 u must feel a little silly for this post now.

  • @cuzz63 Yeah every Fedor fan feels silly. Hey he is still the best. AS got a 4 lose record. GSP barely has half the fights fedor has.

  • @Supersmurf62 losses don't mean shit, someone with 10 losses could be better than someone with no losses. They don't matter.

  • @CunnyFunt333 No anderson has proven himself but has lost more times than fedor, but he gets more credit than him? hah... your right I might of lost a lot in my life but I am better person because of it, same rules apply to fighting. Mistakes make you better and being a better fighter is what it is about.

  • BAD ASS ARMLOCK

  • Outstanding breakdown. Thanks for this. Both of you should take over for the clowns Goldberg and Rogan.

  • What a great video. Very educational. Hopefully now people will appreciated more for a fighter like GSP.

  • guys you should deffinatley do more of these breakdown videos. they are quite entertaining.

  • What a great channel. I can think of a number of MMA commentators that would benifit from watching this. I wish they had BJJ break downs on TUF. It would help educate new and old fans of the sport and would ultimatly lead to less booing. Good job. *subbed*

  • More videos like this, probably one of your best. You guys are awesome!

  • epic ,didn't notice that shit counter during the fight, probably i usually skim thru the fight video most of the time to the end lol ^^

  • 10% or 90%, base on what you are saying or on a survey study?

  • I love Ryron and Rener, two of the nicest gracies around.

  • I like this analysis...a LOT!!!

I hope to see some more videos just like this. Good work Gracie Bros!

  • Good stuff!!!

  • Great.

  • Outstanding analysis. Incredibly interesting to watch two high-level experts providing an analytical look at that fight, especilly because I, too, enjoyed the level of jiu jitsu displayed in that fight. I'm proud to be a Gracie student.

  • wonderful!

  • nice video , what about the kimura attempt , are ye gonna do a vid about that

  • 90% seems to be too much. Just take a look at comments under MMA-related videos on YT, mostly these comments turn into technique discussion.
