@zackaryjames Obvisouly you don't want to go spending a lot on a $70 air rifle. But, if you still want something solid, I recommend a 3-9x Leapers scope with a fixed objective. That would run you $30-50.

yo i got about a $1500 budget, which airrifle would be best for killing cats, they are a huge problem in my neighbor hood, we have no animal control, and cops are no help, there are ferrel, highly aggressive cats

@krazor8 Why dont you just get an actual .22 rifle? The cost isnt excessively high and you can get the job done (after some target practice of course), and with the extra money invest in a small pistol just incase they're still suffering. When I used to hunt squirrels and cats and such I would shoot with the .22 and if it wasnt a head shot id run up and finish with a Crosman co2 pistol (very effective). The cost should come out to around $300-$400.

@krazor8 ooo nvm then. If I may make 1 more suggestion you might want to check out the Crosman Storm .177 Break Barrel from Walmart. Its only $109 and it puts down a squirrel proper.. along with any other small game for that matter. Its insanely accurate, comes with a scope, and has really nice stopping power at 1200 fps. Its single shot though which is why I advised the .22 but if this works then there you go :) (iv got exp with this gun so ask questions if you need to)

@Kin6X i was looking at one of those, i have powerline 880 but it will not drop small game without a head shot.. i had an old gamo 1100 fps break barrel pellet gun that i paid 150 for back in 2008, and the seal broke.. how do u keep the seals from breaking on break barrels?.

@krazor8 All you need to do is keep the inner workings properly lubed (apply oil after every 1000 rounds or so) and you should be set. Most of the time the reason they break is because the lack of oil causes them to crack, its all about the maintenance.

The animal is brain-dead, but the ganglia and nerves in the spinal cord still continue to fire for a while. Some animals twitch more than others. Ground squirrels are particularly "squirmy" after a headshot. But, they are dead as dead.

Super shooting! I used to thin out the gopher population on Mondays at Milw CC. Mondays were caddy days...we could play golf. I chose varmint hunting with my Sheridan .20 caliber pump air rifle. I used a Williams peep sight to improve accuracy. That was many years ago when the earth was still cooling!
