I've watched the anime, ( a long time ago), and I cant figure out how the hell Gatsu survived that last... encounter (dont wanna spoil it for anybody)..
the Golden Age is really the best part of the series. I seriously disliked and lost interest in the manga when they started bringing in new characters and tried to make me care about all this new crap when the characters and story that I truly got myself involved in, got killed off and put through the shredder. Don't get me wrong, Miura has evolved into an amazing visual artist, but post manga 12/animated series, he's offered little to no closure or resolve to fans.
@genericsavings I thought the same thing about the characters in the post anime area also, but I gave then a chance. Give them a chance, I have grown to LOVE then just as much as I did the REAL band of the Hawk. I think its messed up that Grififfith started a new Band of the Hawk and I hope Guts slaughter them straight into the depths of hell where lucifer will force them to suffer.
@ KonohaElite14 Same reason as usual, they ran out of manga material. Considering the slow rate of chapters, they'd have had to stop and restart the series a dozen times by now, or kill the series' momentum with years of fillers. The time's right now for a redo, thank goddess for the movies.
I was kinda annoyed that the anime ending gave absolutely no explanation for how he was saved from getting slaughtered with the rest ... Skull Knight getting written out for the lose.
I've always been that person to watch the movies, shows, what have you until after the credits. Mostly because of the music. Good thing I have yet to quit that habit.

Can't really blame people for wanting to turn off the TV as soon as they possibly could after all that had happened. But the final scene really does send chills up my spine (even though I know what happens after that).
reason why it stopped was cus there was a set amount of episodes, so thats why there are missing people from the manga cus it had to fit a set time. i would like to see the movie thats comeing out, should be later this year if im not mistakeing.

I remember watching this in college anime club. Every sing person in the club room was so frustrated with the bloody and ending. I was so frustrated that I left my bag there and had to come back to the room the next morning. Even a friend who usually loves bloody anime show was disgusted with this. Both of us did wish for more to see Guts' quest of revenge, so opted to see the manga. Of course, the new series is coming, which makes us both of us excited, though I haven't seen him for years.
I can't understand why they didn't do a 26th episode showing the skulled warrior saving him and Casca. Furthermore, he's omitted from the Anime completely when he makes an appearance in the mange.
Yeah, I hope they make another series based on the next arc. That arc has all the really interesting stuff. Especially as the game was never released out of Japan.
this ending doesn't go with the manga cuz guts doesn't leave with the dragon slayer untill he has that battle with that fat small apostle and when Rickert tries to talk guts out of leaving so i can understand why this was in the last 50 secs fo the final episode but i think its so unnecessary
@kand0s he does look at the swords design at 00:4 to 00:10 although i could understand wat u mean cuz the sword does look a little small here ( atleast i think compared to the manga)

Yeah. Apparently. There's just the little problem of the plothole. First we Guts, minus an eye and an arm, watching "SPOILERS", and the next he's leaving the blacksmith with a serious look in his eyes.
Missing a lot of meat in the middle. All bloody first, then just simply all red and grainy with the screen zooming out as he's "walking" away.
It was never planned to make a whole Berserk Animation anyway. They only did make the Human Part before the Eclipse.
It's noticable at some Signs. There is also a Apostel missing before the Eclipse - Wyald! That this Guy is not in the Animation is Proof that they never had intention to animate the WHOLE Berserk Manga.
Maybe they are Moneygreedy Suckers, that seems to be the Case.

@thrilmaster Actually in 90% of the cases mangas are faaar better than the anime versions. For Berserk the manga is 100 times better than the anime, also in the anime there is a whole arc missing after the first episode -Gats fight with the count is missing, also his meeting with Griffith for 1st time after the eclipse. Main characters are missing, Gats battle agains apostole before the eclipse is missing also. They couldn't continue the anime cause of this reasons - too many characters removed.
@thrilmaster Also if you go for the manga I advise you to start from the very beginning cause a lot of things are changed. Also you will see that Gats doesn't like to be touched when he first met Griffith, cause he was sold by Gambino to be raped to one of the soldiers. Just go from chapter 1 on, I wish I haven't red it so I could start now...probably the best masterpiece out there.

besides cutting out puck, and the a few darker things that happened to guts as a child, the Anime really did do very well to get the story, and it follow the manga very closely, only wandering off at moments to censor it to show on TV
Have you seen where the manga currently is? It'll take at least another ten years to get a satisfying conclusion (personlly, I think Miura will either retire or die before it ends) and the anime was VERY faithful to the manga with many scenes litterally ripped from the manga, except the darker and edgier atmosphere and those (ineffectual) kushans and that other (ineffectual) demon that took griffith for a mo' (not zodd...) still pretty faithful, if we compare it to, say, hellsing.
Well, yeah, sure. What if he didid die, or retire ? Someone would just take his place, (albeit failing to be at the same level of Miur, of course!) and since the person would be different, he'll probably just give in, and finish the story, or crate an anime series earlier. At least that's what I hope...
I dunno about the manga but if you remember, the first episode, one of the soldiers says "king Griffith," so I'm guessing not until the end of the manga if at all.
XP That was mix of Berserks first manga chapters. In manga he saves Puck, not girl and her grandfather. Them he meets in second chapter, but was forced to kill them cuz they got possesed by spirits (or ghost, dunno how to call them). They mentioned Grifith as king only in anime. But he is close to become one now (in recent manga that is).
I saw the Berserk anime six years ago and I loved it. It's too bad it doesn't follow the manga a little better, but still it's better then most of the anime adobtations from mangas. It's not like they slaughtered the story, they could still save it and make a second season in my opinion. But I know they didn't have much funding for the first one and the manga is moving on really slow, I just hope the story will be finished before I get to old :P
@mikeymarshful he's only.. 44? but berserk has been goin since like 1990 (1988 if you count Berserk Prototype), the plot feels *maybe* half way finished and he frequently takes extended breaks after a handful of releases. For example:
When i first started reading Berserk (2005 or so?), the friend who got me into it told me it had been on hiatus for about a year. When I finally caught up, it took another 8 months for the next chapter to be released.
Ok. I just finish the amine episode 25. But I do not get what happen afterward. It seems everyone is dead except Caska and Guts. Can ANY1 explain it too me. Im sOOO LOST.
After the eclipse, Caska, Rickert, and Guts were the only survivors left of the Band of the Hawk. Griffith's rape of Caska left her with the mental capacity of a 2 year old, and Guts left both her and Rickert in Godo's (The blacksmith) care while heset off to take vengeance against many of the apostles (the demons) that took part in the Eclipse. Guts became the Black Swordsman, which ties in with the first episode of the anime. Ep. 1 takes place in the present; the entire anime was a flashback.
man that's weird.. one of the main(probably the only) reason why i don't read mangas of animes is because i don't want to be in debates whether which is canon. I always assume the anime is the producer's final work.
Trust me, as soon as you start reading the Berserk manga you'll hate yourself for wasting your precious time on reality. The manga goes far and above the anime in this case, more complex characters, extended arcs, much more sex and violence. The manga arguably makes the anime look like Sailor Moon.

Guts and Caska are saved by the skull knight(you would only know about him if you read the manga). Guts is leaving to begin slaying prophets trying to make his way to find Femto(Griffith) and kill him. It's not a terrible ending but like alot of anime it does not finish.
i think he raped casca at the end just watch gutts suffer, and letting him live would let him suffer even more, and im perty sure they f'd up the ending so you'd be attracted the the manga (i think thats Japanese for comic)

B. His fate is that he is destined to die. But he is struggling against his fate. The godhand admit that they are not god themselves so they cannot control everything but they do conclude that Guts is struggling in vain and the demons probably feed off of his suffering
C. Not sure why exactly but he has probably changed and needs to feed off of Guts' suffering. He was also corrupting the fetus that was impregnated by Guts. I don't want to spoil it but you should read the manga. It explains
Couldn't type much because of the charactercountlimit. It's true, Guts is branded as a sacrifice. I'm all caught up with the manga and I highly recommend reading it all especially if you're the type that likes to relive parts of the anime if you've already seen it all. Also, if you can handle the gore, rape, nudity, and attempted rape. There are things that are in the manga that aren't in the anime and vice-versa. It's a good story! to answer A and B the skull night which was only talked about in the manga came in to rescue guts and Casca he did this because what is happening to Guts and Griffith happened to him and Zodd and he needs guts to help him destroy the god hand
To answer C Griffith raped Casca because in the manga she goes mad and and turns out to be pregnant and later has the child prematurely it then disappears into the dark realm once it is born
This end is almost as bad as the Star ocean ex....why the fuck do they make a lot of episodes and just fuck up the end. hate that in SO ex 2, FFS start a serie that you know you can end...otherwise this was good

Great ending.. besides cutting out puck, and the a few darker things that happened to guts as a child, the Anime really did do very well to get the story, and it follow the manga very closely, only wandering off at moments to censor it to show on TV

Have you seen where the manga currently is? It'll take at least another ten years to get a satisfying conclusion (personlly, I think Miura will either retire or die before it ends) and the anime was VERY faithful to the manga with many scenes litterally ripped from the manga, except the darker and edgier atmosphere and those (ineffectual) kushans and that other (ineffectual) demon that took griffith for a mo' (not zodd...) still pretty faithful, if we compare it to, say, hellsing.

I dunno about the manga but if you remember, the first episode, one of the soldiers says "king Griffith," so I'm guessing not until the end of the manga if at all.

XP That was mix of Berserks first manga chapters. In manga he saves Puck, not girl and her grandfather. Them he meets in second chapter, but was forced to kill them cuz they got possesed by spirits (or ghost, dunno how to call them). They mentioned Grifith as king only in anime. But he is close to become one now (in recent manga that is).

I saw the Berserk anime six years ago and I loved it. It's too bad it doesn't follow the manga a little better, but still it's better then most of the anime adobtations from mangas. It's not like they slaughtered the story, they could still save it and make a second season in my opinion. But I know they didn't have much funding for the first one and the manga is moving on really slow, I just hope the story will be finished before I get to old :P

@mikeymarshful he's only.. 44? but berserk has been goin since like 1990 (1988 if you count Berserk Prototype), the plot feels *maybe* half way finished and he frequently takes extended breaks after a handful of releases. For example:
When i first started reading Berserk (2005 or so?), the friend who got me into it told me it had been on hiatus for about a year. When I finally caught up, it took another 8 months for the next chapter to be released.

After the eclipse, Caska, Rickert, and Guts were the only survivors left of the Band of the Hawk. Griffith's rape of Caska left her with the mental capacity of a 2 year old, and Guts left both her and Rickert in Godo's (The blacksmith) care while heset off to take vengeance against many of the apostles (the demons) that took part in the Eclipse. Guts became the Black Swordsman, which ties in with the first episode of the anime. Ep. 1 takes place in the present; the entire anime was a flashback.

Trust me, as soon as you start reading the Berserk manga you'll hate yourself for wasting your precious time on reality. The manga goes far and above the anime in this case, more complex characters, extended arcs, much more sex and violence. The manga arguably makes the anime look like Sailor Moon.

They probably wanted the anime not to have too strong content like the manga does. And Wyald is probably one of the sickest characters I've ever seen. It would be impossible to fit him in the anime. They would have to adapt him to a less psycho Wyald and that would ruin the character IMO.

Guts and Caska are saved by the skull knight(you would only know about him if you read the manga). Guts is leaving to begin slaying prophets trying to make his way to find Femto(Griffith) and kill him. It's not a terrible ending but like alot of anime it does not finish.

B. His fate is that he is destined to die. But he is struggling against his fate. The godhand admit that they are not god themselves so they cannot control everything but they do conclude that Guts is struggling in vain and the demons probably feed off of his suffering
C. Not sure why exactly but he has probably changed and needs to feed off of Guts' suffering. He was also corrupting the fetus that was impregnated by Guts. I don't want to spoil it but you should read the manga. It explains

Couldn't type much because of the charactercountlimit. It's true, Guts is branded as a sacrifice. I'm all caught up with the manga and I highly recommend reading it all especially if you're the type that likes to relive parts of the anime if you've already seen it all. Also, if you can handle the gore, rape, nudity, and attempted rape. There are things that are in the manga that aren't in the anime and vice-versa. It's a good story! to answer A and B the skull night which was only talked about in the manga came in to rescue guts and Casca he did this because what is happening to Guts and Griffith happened to him and Zodd and he needs guts to help him destroy the god hand
To answer C Griffith raped Casca because in the manga she goes mad and and turns out to be pregnant and later has the child prematurely it then disappears into the dark realm once it is born

It was fucking shock for me to see whole goddamn anime is about Golden age arc, Black swordsman showed in only one episode(Only good episode). And yeah what happened to skull knight?! He appears more times in manga not to mention that he saves both Rickert, Gatts and Casca. Fuck man anime is total miss!
