George Orwell fought against Communism in during the Spanish Civil War. He was a war correspondent and was used by the BBC to counter German propaganda. He wrote 1984 and Animal Farm as fiction to get his message out-- he witnessed these things first hand, however, and feared them. Orwell was a highly respected journalist and political writer. Competition and non-government interference keeps everything competitive. Government interference crushes competition and innovation.
