Great video and review. Some of these comments are crazy. I have shaky hands too. It's just the way some people are. Sometimes I wonder if people really believe the stuff they post.
Is it still possible to edit the focus manually? Also, great review! Great pacing and it touched on pretty much anything I would want to know about. Very to the point and prompt. No "ummm..."s and whatnot. Whether it was due to editing or not, I don't care. Very good audio and video in the review as well which is often not the case with review videos. Overall, the camera looks amazingly intuitive and informative. My pride is not too big in terms of photography so I don't mind thtraining wheels.
I'd like to pick this Nikon because it's not very expensive, but I have a problem-are lenses too expensive? How much do they cost? I am from Europe so if you could say in €? And, is the camera too small? I'd like a big one, like Nikon D7000, but it's too expensive.
@TheKNguyenLife I almost always use the M on my Nikon ;D If you have trouble with the fucus, on the lense, you can turn it, not the zoom, but behind it. Turn it, and the zoom is better. In front of the camera its a wheel you can turn. turn it:) Its hard to explain in english, much easier in norwegian, but the camera takes pictues faster, and slower due to that. Turn it to the right, and the it takes faster pictures, if you have too slow, the picture gets blurry. Anyone who can explain it better?
What a NIKON beast!! i have one and i love it :P Great for time-lapse photography. i just need to trigger it for time-lapse with this little remote TEMPUS. works with MEX 5, 5N and 7. website at: tempus.bymac.org
@kieputin I am thinking about those cameras too! They aren't expensive, they look cute, I really can't decide...I usually prefer Nikon, so I think I'll pick D3000. I am also afraid how much lenses cost. And, a huge plus to Nikon-it has bigger screen. Can you help me somehow?!
I think the videos are excellent. Choosing an entry level dslr has been tough because saving up these days is incredibly hard and making the step to DSLR is about commiting to a whole journey of learning and experiment.. What I like about these videos is their clarity and their structure, which enables easy comparisons between models. The information that is delivered is memorable and that is what makes the reviews successful.
Very good video, thanks for letting us look around. I am a girl, 13 years old and I want to buy a Nikon Camera. I don't know which I will choose. I want to take photos to nature and my friends. :)

@cameralabs Don't worry about the haters. Just keep doing what you do, haters are always going to leave stupid/ignorant comments and it's up to you to ignore them or let them bring you down.
@heyhey1385 Even If I did make videos, I wouldnt let people get to me. They're pathetic. They sit in front of a computer judging people and making people feel bad about themselves. Thats stupid. I wouldnt let it get to me at all.
@bamamaification Why do your sentences not begin with a capital letter? & why are you replying to me? & why are you replying to a comment that wasnt said to you?
I want to buy this camera because it looks really cool, but I read stuff like "it shoots really good for a lower end camera" . Do people mean lower end like it is bad quality and worst camera, or do they mean it's a cheaper camera than others? Someone please help
@xZacanddania DSLRs below 1 k are all lower end cameras which includes Nikon D3100 & Cannon T3. Doesn't mean poor qualities or anything; just tells you they don't have as much advanced options and are designed for beginners to use. BTW, you shouldn't buy a camera because it "Looks really cool"
this is a really help full review sir. but can you please review and compare between canon powershot sx230hs and nikon coolpix s9100 and tell which one is better?
@hayLEX0213 Don't buy a Coolpix p500 when you can save like $150.00 more and buy a SLR camera! If you just want a great zoom plus videos go ahead and buy the coolpix p500 if not, just save more money and buy the Nikon D3000 you wont regret it!
@gretchel321 yeaah you're right. i've thought it through cause my cousin is letting me pick between the two. and my choice was Nikon D3000. especially photography is part of the course that im taking right now and since im just a beginner, i'll go for the Nikon D3000. and SLR's are what we're gonna study and use in school anyway. :)
@IamWhoIam3210 Megapixels only becomes important if you're doing prints and 10 megapixels is enough for a verrrrrry large wall sized print. It's enough, trust me :)
@IamWhoIam3210 with 10 MP you can easily print a 20 by 30 inch photo, I think for most people that would be enough, Myself.. I have the D90 and would highly recommend it, especially if you want to start doing video too
@globeral The D3000 has a more sophisticated auto focus system and can be found refurbished pretty easily so I'll say the D3000. What I would recommend is to buy the D3000 body only for $300 and then invest in a better lens like the 35mm 1.8 to really get the most of the camera. Trust me, the lens is vastly more important!
@Fishilisation Yep. In the menu go to the retouch menu, monochrome, and then black & white and this will convert a picture you've taken into black & white. Personally I'd convert it to black & white in post processing by shooting in raw and editing them with lightroom, photoshop, or even the free viewnx2.
@99rhyssullivan99 Nope, you'll want to look at the newer DSLR's like the D3100 if you want video. Keep in mind that the video from any DSLR at this point isn't going to be as good as a dedicated camcorder.
@NevilleRCUK Did you mean the Video Out? If you did, I don't think that this is possible. D3000 doesn't have "Live View" mode so you cannot shoot using the LCD display or a TV-set.
But if you want to view the images that are already taken, you can do this because the D3000 has a video out
I started with a D3000 and I just upgraded to a D7000. The 7000 is a fair bit better but I still use my 3000 every day. It takes a great picture and for a starter camera its the best. I purchased a Canon 1000D for my sons 21 birthday. It is also a great camera but the D3000 is just a bit better ergonomically (in my opinion). The 3100 will be even better I guess. Gordon does a great evaluation, he knows his stuff.
@signature1990 100% Agree Gordon does a great review on cameras..He does indeed know what he is talking about. He hit the nail on the head when he said about this camera.. It is ideal for a first DSLR camera
I am a beginner for photography and i have never used SLR camera. Now i have got £400 to spend on camera, but i have no idea which camera to choose as i do not know anything about cameras. Do you think Lumix GF2 a fantastic camera? Should i buy D3000 or D31000? Could you please give me any other suggestion? Which camera would be the most suitable with my budget? Cheers
Hi Gordon , i`m still confused , what should i buy? I'm starting making photos with an DSLR , what soul i take for 3-5 years last ,an Nikon d60 18-55 or nikon D3000 18-55? Thank you
can you reccomend a good website, that i can buy it for the chaepest price (i dont want a fake or anything, i trust you, i want what i buy to be the original d3000) any ideas>
Hi guys. I'm not familiar with these tech stuff, so could just someone tell me - what's the BEST (really Best) camera on market today ?
I want to shoot everything - from bugs to stars, to make movies and wide posters.
Just everything! Moves with 30f/s or higher (+sound of course) and pics with mind-blowing quality. Contrast, balance, brightness and so on (funny features) should also be present. Please - give me some hint.

@signature1990 100% Agree Gordon does a great review on cameras..He does indeed know what he is talking about. He hit the nail on the head when he said about this camera.. It is ideal for a first DSLR camera

Hello
I am a beginner for photography and i have never used SLR camera. Now i have got £400 to spend on camera, but i have no idea which camera to choose as i do not know anything about cameras. Do you think Lumix GF2 a fantastic camera? Should i buy D3000 or D31000? Could you please give me any other suggestion? Which camera would be the most suitable with my budget? Cheers
