I think it depends heavily on the type of learner you are. I got the pen free through a promotion before the pen was actually on sale, and I only used it for 1 year in college. I can say that it definitely came in handy multiple times when I was going back in my notes for homeworks and studying for tests.

Does the internal clock sync problem effect playback of notes? e.g. when you playback via tapping a note are they always synced?

I don't think so, though to be honest, the clock sync problem isn't major enough for it to effect playback via tapping too much.
