Actually, there weren't that many humans in G1. Ponyland was inhabited only by talking animals (like the ponies) and fantasy creatures (like dragons). The humans you see in this video are only visitors from the Outside World. So it was pretty much the same as FiM.

In contrast, MLP:FiM has a world where the ponies are both fiercely independent and dynamic characters (especially by a children's show's standards) while simultaniously giving them character flaws that they have to overcome (usually in a rather unrealistically short timeframe, but a children's show gets a pass on things like that in my book). The original just can't measure up to the remake. I'm 30, I had NO interest in the original and loved G.I. Joe. I watch FiM with my nieces willingly.

The characters are quite one dimensional and the show shares many qualities that made My little pony tales what it was except with a bit more generation one fantasy. They are by no means dynamic and while they are flawed it's nothing that will actually result in character development and rather as a means to mine for humor and shoddily made (lesson of the day) situations that are useless and forgotten even to the main characters. Watch more cartoons.

@shadowhexogram Actually the 'dear Celestia' thing at the end of every FiM episode makes me cringe a little because it reminds me of sailor says segment from the Dic's ''Sailor Moon' dub and sonic says from the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog along with every other segment in cartoon like that. Meh, I was asked by my sis to screen both the original and FiM for my nieces to see if they should watch one over the other. While there's nothing inherrently WRONG with the original theme wise, I told my sis to go with FiM for a simple reason (beyond better storytelling, music and animation). Role models. In the originals most of the ponies were basically lovable and enchanted creatures but were still not capable of solving many of their own problems (the human characters did that).

Even the really early G3 scored some grade. While I won't disagree about FiM being the best yet, I still say that both RaMC and Tales were amazingly awesome.
