Pretty Hate Machine recorded and/or live = the best Nine Inch Nails. Richard Patrick was an irreplaceable live guitarist imo. They sound sooooooooo tight here. Love it.
the guy had 1 (one) album in him. After that he made music for depressed teenage girls. I tried, i tried to like it but he didn't try so i gave up on his whiney ass.
I was 17 for Lollapalooza 1 at Great Woods in Mansfield Massachusetts...the summer before we all shipped out to colleges all over the country...good times, great memories..
You know, it's very rare that the legend turns out to be as good as the truth. But I have to say, NIN was incredible at Lollapalooza. They EASILY stole the show. (At least in Chicago.) You could just feel that they were the band to watch. All the other band members were watching them from the sides of the stage when they went on.
It's great that you're so young and you're into stuff that came out before you were born. Keep looking. There's TONS of great music out there waiting for you. :)
You think you're jealous.. I wanted to go to this show, had the chance, friend bought me tickets, i was 13 though. Too young for my parents to let me go. Don't really think I've gotten past that yet :)
same, well i was born in 94 so pretty close. i got to see them on lights in the sky which was amazing. unfortunately they didn't come to dallas on wave goodbye.
Rockin for 20 years and still making music. That is true dedication and a love for the fans. They may not hit the top of charts nowadays, but who cares, he doesn't need to. Every album is unique in its own way and that's what makes NIN such great music
I wish I had been there. This rocks my devonshire bollocks lol
NIN are such a versatile band. They remind me of Soundgarden, although it's obviosly a different sound. Good music shines through whatever the medium. It's just fucking cool. :-)
We got Pretty Hate Machine and Gish in the summer of '89. We would ride around blaring them out of my buddy's Jeep while the other dorks we went to school with were playing Vanilla Ice.
I wasn't trying to be cool. The older I get the more I lose track of details. I guess what I know for sure is that we got the tapes at Bill's Records and Tapes in Dallas and it was at least a year before I graduated. Is that better?
Raiderbeau, everyone was right about you, you're SUPER cool dude. Bill sends his regards, he remembers everything. You may not have been king of the high school football team, but goth chicks loved you and your obscure taste.
Teen girls haven't loved this song in almost twenty years.
Congratulations on being amazingly uninformed! Gish *did* come out in 1989, that's when the album was originally cut on the Pumpkins first indie label (Caroline), and then it was reissued after Virgin signed them in 1991 to a 7 album deal. L2Pumpkins.
im not the worlds biggest NIN fan only because my musical interests lay more on dark scandinavian metal ooohh scary - haha but i've always loved trents voice. And even from the sound of this recording he sounds 100% the same. its kinda sad cause i think my mom digs NIN more than i do. =\
pure industrial rock at its best. NIN has remained awesome since the release of PHM and still fucking rock. pisses me off at the time of this tour i was only 5 or 6 years old and my first time seeing NIN live wasen't until the Fragility Tour in May 2000 but it was plain badass. trent reznor is amazing. i saw them on Fragility Tour and With Teeth and although the ban has changed and some of the songs are different,NIN its still my fav band by far.
When I saw Nails is like '93-'94, and was about twelve, barely tall enough to see the stage, one thing that sticks out was that it was the best sounding show I ever been to and I remember asking myself why all shows can't sound like this. To this day it's like that, weird. I did make it over the barrier and saw everything on stage for about a second. Then Manson played...
Awesome to see- but defintely not from Lolla 91--they were one of the first groups on during the day- Lolla is what helped make them- their performances and music blew away all those unknowing folks- was there and loved it!
hey!can u shut your crap?!go and read more about nine inch nails u motherfucking pussy!!instead of cursing manson, did u ever know that he helped nine inch nails for dat album and broken?so if u dont know anything, then i suggest u should shut ur pie hole!
Yeah....If it wasn't for trent there wouldn't be no manson...trent produced antichrist superstar which was manson's best seller...I like manson sound but he is a pussy :P
who cares about the quality, this is the best live performance of terrible lie i've ever seen. richard patrick is skinny as hell. trent is pissed as ever, and that keyboard player looks all flock of seagulls
Copyrights are another way for the industry to hold on to precious (or not so precious) material for 20 years, overprice it, release it as "rare and unreleased material" then sell to you what was yours rightfully 20 years ago.
I don't think people realize how rare this is. Where did you manage to find this? I can't wait to see Lollapalooza footage on Closure when it comes to DVD.
I was at the first lolla when it was in new orleans tripping balls during NIN. Thought I was gonna implode it was so much fun. Thank you Trent......

@mumbolina Yeah because March of the Pigs and Wish are such wonderful teenage anthems. You're off-base, and yes I get your point.
Seems to me you need to check out some more Halos.
