In 1991, Iraq had one of the largest armies in the world; it was not dissimilar to the army of the DPRK... A war between the US and the DPRK wouldn't even be close.

They can easily bomb Seoul (wich is an very import economic city in Asia) And what if America bombs Pyongyang and the both Koreas will be reunited. The economics will even fall that way (Imagine how expensive it is to rebuild a whole country with no economics or infrastructure, compare it with country's like the Netherlands, Germany and later the DDR)

@otacs2 Yes, DPRK has thousands of guns aimed at Seoul, a war would be absolutely devastating to it. Even if US airstrikes could take out most of their guns within 12 hours, that is still 12 hours of non stop carnage to Seoul. That isn't even considering DPRKs nuclear capability; they might be able to hit Tokyo, but more likely they would nuke a ROK city further south.

Kim Jong il has designed things to the point where he feels secure because he holds civilians hostage.

The US and ROK won't invade because of the civilian deaths, and DPRK won't invade because they know they would get their ass handed to them. So Kim Jong il is content to just be left alone, the only problem with this is the millions of Korean civilians starving under his brutal regime.
