I keep saying This since 2005 (when I first watched the show both in english and italian): Jools Siviter for president! Hugh Laurie made This show in This series, I agree
Hugh Laurie is excellent portraying this type of professional dealing in espionage. I know Mr. Laurie loves spy thrillers (Le Carre' and Deighton are two of his favorite authors) and this role suits him well and reflects his respect for the genre. Shortly after this, in 2002, Hugh did a pilot for CBS called "The Dragans of New York" that was a comedy/drama spy thing, similar to "The Avengers" or "The Thin Man" I really enjoyed the pilot-shame CBS didn't pick up on it.
Superb visual storytelling sequences and lovely to see a Great British dandy in full flow - however rare such a portrayal may be these days.
It always makes me wince whenever halfwits post comments which merely state what everyone has just watched and rob readers of a bit of life that can never be replaced: however, "Getting far too big for his murky pond" should really be savoured!

I think it's fair to say that Peter Firth, (Harry Pearce), is what makes Spooks.
But in the first series, Hugh Laurie is what made it.
Spooks is a true gem. An already established classic. I love it!

Hugh Laurie has great timing and delivers every line with the precisely right diction, intonation, and fidelity to his character.
