Would it be of the most terrible and abhorrent incorrectness of me (that is to say the being being in the possession of mine own earnest self) to venture the making of a statement pertaining to the chance encounter between a very fine Stephen Merchant and a Stephen Fry of quite equally splendid a delicacy, whereupon the former made process to utter a quotation of yon sketch, of the morning of goodness, met only by Mr. Fry's "Fuck off you nerd." Or is that a mere anecdote, a dote of anectedness?
Stephen Fry can reel off the most complicated, but grammatically perfect, lines that not the best of writers in the world can come up with even after several years of contemplation. How he does that will continue to puzzle those writers for several more years.
i reckon that stephen's character from this sketch; from the shoe-shop sketch; from the barber sketch; from the model airplane sketch... is all that remains of Jeeves... after a mental breakdown... Jeeves' mind has been shattered by some ludicrous event involving Madeline, Bertie and the theft of an eighteenth century cow creamer (which is a euphemism in this case)... Bertie had to let Jeeves go... and a fragmented, fractured-witted Jeeves has to find alternative employment...
If sirs and mesdames would be so kind as to be, in the fullest and most magnificently pungent sense of the word, in possession of allowment of myself to state, as it were, my, as it were, feelings pertaining to and relevant towards this and no other sketch, it would please me gloriously to deliver unto sirs' and mesdames' awarenesses the most undoubted, the least doubted, hilarity and awesomeness of said sketch. Good, if you will, day.
@artvandelay13 If I may have your kind permission to state that there is no doubt of the brilliance of the statement pertaining to the one that you have made! I feel I must, if may allow it, congratulate you on your eloquence! :)
@anetchi if you own an account on Netflix (if, in the span of the said 2 years since this comment and have not yet seen all of this show), it is currently on instant play
haha...such great use of words..."here is a morning, mother of my bosom, I averred, as fine and crisp and gutty, as any since the days that Compton and Edrich opened for England, and the sun never went down on the British without asking permission first..."
I love these shop sketches - jewelers, barber, model, shoe etc - Fry's absurdity knows no bounds. I don't know how he rapidly puts all those words together with such perfect diction. Hilarious stuff.
Utter genius, I have every one of their series on tape. They just make me so utterly happy when I watch them. Both of them are SO clever. Thanks for outting these on You Tube
I must agree in regard to the hilariousity of said sketch and, all it's dictive and linguistic eccentricities aside, must also put forth a comment pointing out it's similarity to another sketch, of the comedic nature, given to us by the great Monty Python.
I didn't catch any on that, due to the fact that my brain is not working, other than the fact that Monty Python (damn, I love that show) has a similar sketch which is also funny... right?
I would not be as wrong as a hedgehog attired with underwear if I assumed that Stephen was assuredly in delicate possession of a cue card whilst delivering these orations of magnitudinous proportions...
"And if two broad shouldered, long fingered yong men such as ourselves can come independently to the conclusion that the morning that they are currently experiencing is one of a goodness, then one of a goodness it most assuredly is"

This is, in the humblest of my many opinions, their best sketch ever - and you can call me Susan if it isn't so.

They (Fry and Laurie) were at their best when they were working together. There are just some actors who bring out the best in each-other.

This is a sketch that before Youtube I hadn't seen since it was on telly back in the eighties.
I still remember a lot of the lines, its my all time favourite comedy sketch.
Dont compare it to Monty Python AAAARGH. They deserve full credit for their own brand of insane dialogue.
