I own a K98 with a sporterized stock and no markings. Since it was already sporterized I decided to remove the rear sights and install a LER scope. Since I didn't need the front sights (they were off anyhow) I sawed off and crowned the edge of the barrel. It shoots better than when I got it. My gun, my shooting so suck it purist.
My pap brought back an 8mm Mauser from WWII and it is a lot different from this gun this guy i holdin i know you will say its because the stock or something no because mine is a lot louder and kicks a lot worse and my pap picked it up of a dead german soldier and i have done research on the gun but cant find much it also has the Third Reich mark on the barrel anyone help me out just send me a messege
@billygarlitz What exactly are you trying to find out about the rifle? I hope you never sell it but if you ever do ill be happy to take it. I have a German K98 myself but the Swastika was taken off because it was a Russian capture. I love that rifle. Tell your Pap that I said thank you for serving our country. I myself am an Iraqi Freedom Veteran who loves old rifles from WW2.
Bash the author all you want, but the 7.92x57mm is by far one of the best rounds produced. Getting one of these mass-produced rifles and putting a scope on it is one of the smartest moves you could make - granted, it brings the collector value down, but if it's a slightly mismatched rifle, I say go for it.
rifles arent meant to be collected.... he modifyed it becaus he uses it, he doesnt have it just to show off to people and brag about how much its worth.....For everyone crying about the modifications he had done, he doesnt want something that just looks pretty....
@mario15054092023 Some are meant to be collected, those are called "Prototypes" :)
You are correct for "Production" rifles. I keep two, one as a collector and the other as a shooter. However, the only difference to me is one shoots noncorrosive and the other shoots everything else
The 8mm Mauser, when hand-loaded, will take any North American game. I'd use 220 grain bullets for your grizz, elk and moose, however. The stuff you buy is loaded so weak----

I dont think thats an original, the originals bolt was straight sideways, then straight up. Not at an angle like modern rifles.

I own a few K98s and all you code whores who think anything mis matched marked with an X will ever be worth more than a few hundred bucks are stupid.
You have no idea what stamp this guys rifle carries , so if he wants tap and mount a scope , let him.
STFU,

@bkiller73 That being said , If I did want to scope one , I'd just buy a Yugo m48.
Same gun , half the price and I don't have to listen to a bunch of arm chair Rambo computer nerds whining when I want to fuck with it a bit.
