It was a different time and place guys, keep that in mind. People under the of twenty seven might have a hard time remember how cool Arcades were. It was more then just a place to play video games, it was also a hangout, a meeting place, a place to pick up girls / guys, it was part of an era, one that i love and miss. Plus, evey Arcade had guys like these guys, dudes that were superhuman at a certain game, those dudes just happen to be the best at that point in time.
So, what's the difference between this and "King of Kong: Fistful of Quarters"? It seems like it has used too many clips from that flick in its own preview to be considered original by any means.
@bawhite125 There's a huge difference between this and King of Kong. First off, this is not about two people battling head to head to get a high score. This is about the people that used to be the gods of arcade gaming back in the day, and where they are now. Second, the footage you're referring to is stock footage that can be used by anyone. Third... This came before King of Kong. They're two VERY different films.
Perhaps maybe these video game players can show me how it is done on Pac Man, Ms. Pacman and other games that I have for Nintendo Game Cube or Playstation.
There was a guy from Rapid City called Shawn Cuny(?) who stayed on Defender for over 24 hours to break a record. They kept the place open just for him.
Pretty amazing stuff....to be leaving the arcade at closing and seeing him on the same game...and then coming back at opening and STILL PLAYING! Unreal!
finally saw this recently on showtime, i wish it had focused more on certain games (and their top players) like Defender, Stargate and Robotron. I was state champ at Defender in '81, when the game first surfaced in the early months of 1980 (at Malibu Grand Prix.. Los Angeles, a place notorious for getting prototypes months before they hit the rest of the market) i may have been one of the first to master it and play forever on a quarter. Only had mild awareness of Twin Galaxies at that time
For all those who want to see this, it is showing on SHOWTIME (to those who dont know what is it, it's a premiun cable channel)and this is the schedule:
Where in the world is this movie? It was circulating the film circuits. But then it just got forgot about?. Did King Of Kong shadow it? New Line needs to pick this one up too and distribute it. Write them at movies (at) newline (dot) com That was their address a few years ago, it might have changed over time.
@haibane13 Yeah but if you haven't watched it yet, you shouldn't make a judgement about it... I heard it was pretty good. ShowTime airs it , or they used to.
@hootyhaha No I think I will judge it based on the trailer , classic gaming can only be documentary material if you focus on the creation and development of each classic game , this however deals more with the players which something that can be covered rather quickly this doc wants to expand on it .
I remember those days... good memories, good times.

@hootyhaha Probably because the film is just about a bunch of nerds and their egos .

@haibane13 And you're watching a video about it... so now what? It still needs to be released.

@hootyhaha I wanted to see what this film was about , I thought it might be about actual classic games but it look like a bunch of garbage .

@brabon being able to build up 50,000 health in Gauntlet in around an hour = street cred with the bangers and druggies :)

@brabon I think they meant gay groupies, don't know why they flashed the photos of the girls, they were just standing outside trying to get smokes.
