Yes hamsterhamz there is a Difference. And I personally would NOT recomend using a Cig Lighter Plug in to Power a CB Radio. ALWAYS use a Solid Sorce direct to the Battery and use an extra Inline Fuse, I use a 30 Amp fuse inline from my Battery, For Better Reception and Better SWR, find a GOOD non painted piece of the Frame to Ground the Radio. You will also have Less background noise.
Clipping the diode = splatter. Throw in a 2SC1969 add replace some capacitors with more efficient ones, make a few adjustments and you can get a nice clean 7 swinging 35. 35 is very possible you just have to know what you are doing. Of course then you want to re-align the radio for better receive as well and recheck the frequency stabilization of the radio after all of that. Of course you need to use an Oscilloscope to get all of this right.
Do I turn the vr4 to counter clockwise or clockwise??? Can I tell which way is correct? I dont own and extra meters or anything, except for a volt meter! Please help, I Am hitting the road again in a few days and want to play with a little more power!
Is there any difference in performance between using a cigarett lighter plug for power and using a fuse in your fuse box and is there a more effecient way than either of these. Also are there any attachments i can buy ti get more range out of my cb
i have a cobra 29 nightwatch and want to use power echo mic and 200 watt linear can you show me how to tune them together on the bench ? tom g. ps what is the best simple , no bells and whistles power echo mic to buy .
Well I don't think I'll calibrate anything, My meters are good and I get just that out of EVERY 29 I do. Maybe you should just learn to tune. Every radio I have tuned has been accused of having a linear behind it. Obviously I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING. I have done it for over 15 Years and will continue to Bring the Best of my work to the CB World. I would Love to tune a radio U Have ALREADY Done.if I haven't ALREADY. LoL
I can't believe you only got 18 watts out of that Cobra 29. Every Cobra 29 I have ever tuned I have gotten at the Very Least 35 Watts out of them. But I personally dont hold back, but I am not complaining, because as long as you are getting 18 watts out of it there will always work for me.... For the Record I am the Radio Doctor out of Kentucky. For Best Results you should try adjusting VR4 and/or Cut D11 and for Maximum Modulation adjust L14 L13 L12
@362Budda 35 watts out of a 2078 i doubt it you better calibrate your meter and i don't build Charlie brown trucker radios. I like em clean so you can hear what people are saying. Don't try to teach me shit I've forgot more than you'll ever know. You should be sued for malpractice!!!!!!!!!
What about L12? Some instructions talk about spreading both L12 and L13 coils? I have a PC76XL and I followed this video (using a "field strength" meter since that's all I have to adjust L14.)
I was able to talk to someone almost 20 miles away ... also when I ask for a 'radio check' on 19 .. I can hear very very weak replies from a great distance so I assume I'm getting out : )
Is there any danger of over-modulating by turning up VR4 to the max (counterclockwise) as opposed to cutting D11?
@zumadale People will say you can not get the best of Both Worlds, Power and Modulation, but I will personally tell you they are Greedy. You CAN get the best of both worlds, I tuned a Galaxy 99 on 3 different occasions and got over 75 watts out them on a Swing, the Dead key was 1.5 watts, and I had over 125 % Modulation and the Radio sounded Beautiful. All 3 of them. And Personally I recommend using VR4 to the Max -v- cutting D-11. I have NEVER cut D11 and every 29 I have done Sounds GREAT
@362Budda is a lying mudduck who can't keep track of his own comments . at the top of the page he says cut d11,on the bottom he says he never cuts d11. he also says he can get 35 watts out of a stock 29....NEVER gonna happen with that final section. mudduck radio butcher in a van @ the local truck stop, nothing more.
@362Budda Theres an npc-rc red wire mod for the ept 3600 and 6900 board that can achieve 300-350%modge with very low negative peaks on the scope.Only involves a jumper, resistor, and a diode.
Done it on a 949,connex 3300 and they both sound loud and clear;-)
got a question..... what do i need to build a swing kit? built one years ago but forget and can't find the plowboys website no more.... wanna put it in a 19DX VII
I have a Cobra 29 GTL ... with this work for that radio too? also what direction did you turn the tuning knob? Clockwise or Counter-clockwise.... to increase the power.
@xzqvn9 yes you use the same as I posted and if you are not using a Test meter to Tune DO NOT attempt it. You can Over tune and get it out of Wack. I tune it till it goes as far as it can go and starts to go back down then I turn back a little and I am Done.
awesome man i have had nothing but trouble with radios cuz im cheap and wont go buy a new one but im sure this one will kick it hard and i like the light to thats awesome thanks man and my olady is excited imona set one up in her car lol so now i just have to learn how to set all the knobs and stuff sheesh
Simply awesome man!!!! Everyone has their niche!!! I'm not good with electronics, LOL!! I'd mess it up. Thank god we have people like you who know how do this stuff!!!
