Yes I'm aware that instances of cannibalism among gorrilas have been observed, but the fact is that they are still predominantly a folivorous species. Meat in the form of hamburgers on a regular basis is probably unhealthy for gorillas. In any case, if you look at more recent videos of Koko you will see that she became very obese near the end of her life.

In the 70s, it was the law for exotics to be chained if not in an enclosure, thats why in the video when shes inside she isnt chained. Koko is now in her 30s and still alive and healthy(she isnt fat, gorillas are not skinny) so her diet wasnt THAT off. she still lives with Penny, indoors. Search for her vids with kittens.

Koko doesn't seem happy. I don't know if it is just my natural instinct, but I think Koko feels bored and annoyed of the work she must do. A very controlled enviornment will have different results than a regularly controlled one. If any of them actually read this, try adding a little more play time and toys. Koko has not been documented smiling, which has a high success rate around humans, I've observed.
