Most schools allow the parents an option to opt-out of sex ed, so that the parents who do want sex ed for their children will have it and the parents who don't want their children to have sex ed won't have it. Of course, if you or the school decide not to educate your child about sex, other kids will do the job for you and the school with inaccurate information.

5 year olds are very perceptive. Learning about wrong touching and abuse is a great thing for that age and to understand how they were made. It comes up no matter what and lying to them won't make it easier. I learned about sex when my brother asked about it when I was around 4 and was given new information that was age appropriate as I got older and learned more. I think it takes the doing it to make your parents mad out of the equation and would possibly lower 12-15 year old pregnancies

i think the best age for sex ed is right before everyone starts going through puberty (age 10), that way you prevent anyone from doing something they will regret later... and 10 yr olds are old enough to understand the terms used

a five year old is likely to be confused about where babies come from. Why would you bombard them with such information at an age that they don't even have such feelings. Further it would be better to educate people to be modest and and not to be an ADULTRER, who have such problems because people belive we are more liberal now and having relations with anyone without being married is OK. Most schools allow the parents an option to opt-out of sex ed, so that the parents who do want sex ed for their children will have it and the parents who don't want their children to have sex ed won't have it. Of course, if you or the school decide not to educate your child about sex, other kids will do the job for you and the school with inaccurate information.

It's simple--When children ask questions, you answer them honestly and truthfully, not dumbing anything down. Also at the right age that sex is a beautiful thing between a man and a woman who are married and in turn creates children, and is a responsibility to be taken with a mature mind---one not controled STRICTLY by hormones.

The question was not "have you talked to your kids about sexual assault?" it was "have you talked to your kids about sex education?"....these are NOT the same thing. There is a difference in talking about where babies come from and good/bad touches. Yes there are a lot of kids who don't get these talks, but do 5 yr olds really need to be taught about sex?

5 year olds are very perceptive. Learning about wrong touching and abuse is a great thing for that age and to understand how they were made. It comes up no matter what and lying to them won't make it easier. I learned about sex when my brother asked about it when I was around 4 and was given new information that was age appropriate as I got older and learned more. I think it takes the doing it to make your parents mad out of the equation and would possibly lower 12-15 year old pregnancies

well...they have had sex ed in schools since the 50's, and they have been teaching how to prevent pregnancies since the 70's-I remember the condom being sent around the Health class, I remember the birth cotrol pills being shown. Having sex education in the schools is NOT reducing teenage pregnancies...in fact the problem has gotten worse, especially in the inner cities.

talked about. Most schools in the USA teach abstinance only. Teachers get fired for teaching safe sex still in a lot of places. PARENTS need to get involved and give out birth control and condoms. Schools need to stop talking about abstinace only.

wait a minute-I don't believe that MOST schools in the US teach only abstinance, not for a minute, I do believe however that some do teach programs which are lacking but its kind of hard to imagine such a thing, really. Parents should NOT be buying the birth control or condoms--I believe that the parents need to do some strong parenting instead of giving into every whim their child has.

My experience is that girls are being taught (at least in their minds) that abortion is a viable/exceptable means of birth control...they do not know the physical or psychological consequences to either having sex/getting pregnant/having an abortion. They think they can get it done with no issues at all! The whole system is failing these girls.

Now there is the Internet. The truth is, your kids will have access to thoughtful, well-written articles about sexuality within forty minutes of deciding that they want it. And they will have access to explicit porn just as quick.
Whether they will be forewarned (and thus forearmed) is entirely up to you.

Church and state are separate in the US, regardless of what it says on our currency, and you need to learn the difference between christian beliefs and federally sanctioned laws. Isn't all american politicans backed by "big business"? Since they have no funding from the state and they need it for their campaign, it's quite logical that they would be selling themselves to comapnies etc.
Sex should be explained! We only talked about pregnancy in school and heck, I didn't know how to do it until recently.

I never got the "sex talk" from my parents, and thank god. How uncomfortable would that be. School concillers (i know i mutualated that word) gave us the "bad touch" talk in 1st grade. Health class gave us the safe sex talk in 9th grade. I think having school figures do it is better.
