  • I think she's very compassionate about Judy Garland. Bless her!

  • Bruce reminds me of a Jim Hensen muppet.

  • when she says having dinner with the rosses is that from the movie?

  • @bart34567 No. I think the Rosses were the horrible couple who adopted and exploited her when she was a child actress.

  • Wow, hard to imagine a jew being a mean director.

  • If you are watching this at any time Anna, I'm calling you Anna because that's your given name. There is not one thing wrong with your looks. I've always loved your performances on TV and movies. I'm 48 and probably one of your biggest fans.

  • Don't understand why anyone has the need to write these awful comments about Vilanch's and Patty Dukes looks. She looks like any "normal " woman her age...meaning she isn't a victim of the photo shop /plastic surgery ideal that has distorted people'sl features and made them look like freaks. And instead of being thankful that Vilanch organises these verbal history interviews for film historians and fans some snippy little people have to comment on his looks. That's sad .

  • @miltsar I agree about Patty Duke looking like a normal older woman, but Bruce Vilanch has purposely made himself repulsive with that haircut. I can't even look at him.

  • God Bless you Patty your amazing and very honest as ALWAYS ! It's nice to hear you be one of the few to really tell it like it is. Thanks for sharing this Video ~

  • Bruce Vilanch is a repulsive troll. Who is the world would EVER be physically attracted to him?

  • @funkeekatt Me.

  • @funboy7979 I'm hoping you are joking.

  • @funkeekatt You apparently do not understand that attraction is a thoroughly subjective phenomenon. Unless you are Mr. Vilanch himself amusing himself with a bit of masochistic whimsy, your gratuitous criticism of his appearance is completely pointless. A man past 60 who has never claimed to be conventionally hot is hardly a worthy target of anyone's banal beauty tips. In showbiz as in fitness and secondary education, cheekbones & abs are a dime a dozen. Wit is a treasure in short supply.

  • @funboy7979 He's not so witty.

  • @funkeekatt But he makes me laugh, a quality that makes me skeet-skeet in my pants. Top that, Mr. Sadly Sadlington.

  • @funboy7979 Apparently you have an attraction to trolls who amuse you. More power to you.

  • @funkeekatt Well, looks like little Nancy Negative finally turned her frown upside down now didn't she?

  • @funkeekatt Someone who loves him, perhaps?

  • @costernocht That person would have to be blind or retarded.

  • Too bad her cousin Cathy couldn't be there.

  • Whats up with the HUGE chair she is sitting on>?

  • Thanks for posting this piece of Hollywood history. I feel grateful to live in a time when Patty Duke & Barbara Parkins are still alive...it would have been great if Sharon Tate got to be the age that Patty is in this clip.

  • @maxbickford

Garland was fired and should never have

been hired in the first place...that's per Duke!

And that's being exploited? She was an unreliable addict.

Her life stunk because she did it to herself and

she wasn't such a great person to begin with.

Read Darwin Porters book: Get Happy

Grow up.... but first you have to wise up.

You can afford to buy a book...can't you?

  • This is sooo gay.

  • this so fabulously gay!

  • @missmarypickford Hiya Mary..its me Lillian Gish!

  • I like

  • They're at the CASTRO theater?

    I fucking love it!!!!

  • Patti Duke was a drug addict at an early age.

So ....where does this young Hollywood drug addict....

get off putting down an older Hollywood drug addict? Hmm?

Hollywood...is the just a rich cesspool.

    Whores, addicts, pedophiles, killers, crooks....

who make pretty pictures for the schmucks in Nowhereville.

  • You have to be insane....

to be a piece of meat in Hollywood.

  • What I never quite understood was, how could cousins be identical? Really? There's talk of a Valley of the Dolls TV Series? I read it on Queerty. It asked who should play the roles. People right away said Lindsey Lohan for Neely O'Hara. I was like, no way. They need to get good actresses who can sing. I think if Liza Minnelli played Helen Lawson it would be so cool..

  • Patty Duke is just one cool lady. Loved listening to her story.

  • Patty look's fabulous !!

  • All commentators on Patty Duke's looks should just quit! She is a performer beyond looks and age! SHe looks fine and her age. Enjoy interview.

  • Patty looks horrible. Bruce looks worse - but average for him. Patty is hilarious and classy. And screw all you homos for trying to out homo each other.

  • wow judy older then the time i seen her which was early 90's

  • ...so obsessed with looking young and the sad part is the "pulled pathetics" aren't fooling anyone. All I see is old trying to look young...I don't see "youth."

  • Thank you, Terryc. I am a gay man but I do agree with you when you say gays are too, too judmental and opinionated about other people but SOOOOOO sensitive when it comes to themselves. If Patty Duke wishes to look this way, so what! Compare this to the freak show we now see in Hollywood and I choose Patty.

  • Could Vilanch be more repulsive? No.

  • Stupid queers need to learn to respect other people and let them be. You always overstep your bounds. That alone is why the straight world hates you. Live and let live. Patty is Patty (or maybe Anna is Anna). That's good enough for me. Get a job with an undertaker. Then you can dress them any way you want to after you get yourself off....

  • @terrryc Talk about overstepping one's bounds. Who are you? Live and let live after you say the straight world hates the stupid queers. Practice what you preach. I haven't read all the comments that people have made about Patty's appearance, but your response isn't any better.

  • I respect the opinion and don't so much as step outside without lipstick, powder n' pearls, but I think Patti looks kinda' fab with the hair -

Love this jewel of a post!

  • Years and years ago, in the days of Lana Turner, Hollystars dressed like STARS. Today, Patty Duke, along with just about everybody else (even Scarlet Johansson!)

likes to dress down. Probably to be "one of us" instead of, well, heavenly like Lana.

But, then, nobody goes to the ball, or disco, dressed up like old Hollywood glamour dolls, do they? WE dress down, too. Especially on a Friday in an office.

NOTHING could be more repulsive as looking at a punk in an office on Friday!!

  • Hell, I thing it's great she hasn't fallen victim to the face surgeons who the "stars" so desperately cling to and depend on. You go girl! Loved to hear how much she loved Judy and the part about Judy wearing the gown is fantastic. Judy was a strong person who was beaten down by those who took advantage her.

  • I love hearing the rich oral history from Hollywood's golden years. Even when they're a bit sad, it's so cool that Patty (Anna), got to know Judy, and I'll always remember this story. I can't make out the name of that som of a bitch producer, but how wonderful she could make that remark laughingly about the Rosses after the abuse she suffered at their hands. She's truly overcome so much. I could listen to her all night. Thank you for that clip .

  • the MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMEN IN THE WORLD was Sharon Tate ,, and the most beatiful voice ,, JUDY ,, both gone the same year

  • How strange that people feel that women have to look like waxed, botoxed, dyed, siliconed Barbie dolls to be attractive. Patty Duke looks marvellous...........her grey hair lovely, chic and refined.............she looks so much better than any of those terrifying lifted grotesques that inhabit Hollywood........Go Patty, you look splendid.

  • San Francisco's version of celebrity. Is Los Angeles really so awful to you?

  • I love Patty Duke every since the Patty Duke Show,

" Where cousin's are tow of a kind, Bib Smile and big wink"

  • Patti Duke I've Love you since the Patti Duke show

    God Bless you.

  • And there will never be another one like Judy Garland.

  • Well all I can say is that Judy was unique and amazing and funny and the biggest talent to ever walk on this earth... Period! as simple as that.

  • @Stefanie0621 AMEN!

  • All that I can say about those B-'s! Is F-! The Director and F-! The Ross'!

  • Granted, Patty does look a lot older than 63 here. Bu,t it's the guy interviewing her who could do with a good haircut and at least, more appropriate dress for such a formal occasion. The t-shirt and jeans smacks of disrespect.

  • @aussieskates

I second that emotion. I think Bruce should have shown Ms Duke some more respect by dressing more appropriately. Patty took the time to look her best....Bruce should have done the same. I too don't care for his haircut. I hope his weight doesnt' contribute to an early death. For his own sake he should lose some pounds.

  • @aussieskates this woman is a survivor! She's had a hellish life, and she got through it-with beauty, intelligence, and a sense of humor.Love her

  • I am sick of shallow people who think that people should stay the same! We do all change and you will too! I feel sorry for u people who are so afraid to grow older!!!! It's the way God made us!

  • Patty Duke looks fabulous as herself. And remains one of the most talented people in the world. I adore her and just wish I could have been there for this evening of Valley of the Dolls.

  • Judy Garland was one of the most accessible stars to her fans. She was down to earth and she respected and loved her fans and it showed each time she performed. Even now on youtube, whenever she sang she is the only singer that can sing to a packed house & millions of ppl on tv, and still make each person that she was singing to just them. Valley of the Dolls wasnt the right vehicle for Judy. Her fans couldnt see her being humilated by getting her wig torn off even if tho it was just a movie.

  • Judy Garland did so much & still, to this day does so much for the World of Show Business because she constantly reminds us what real talent is. She accomplished so much in those short 47 yrs than anyone ever has. Yet people keep bring up her personal problems. Anyone who's ever seen a clip of Judy in front of a camera will see a STAR that's just amazing! When she refused to work its because she was ill & couldnt give us the Judy we all were used to seeing & hearing. She was worked to death.

  • I don't know if she was in good health at this time, but her timing and delivery of this story is pretty bad considering she's an actress.

  • i applaud Ms Duke's decision to look any way she wants to...I'm sick of people trying to dictate what others should look like....

  • Patty looks great for her age...and after all she's been throough, she's earned that grey hair.

  • OH PATTY!!! YOU AGED TERRIBLY!!

  • @tweethang1 I actually think she looks more elegant as an elderly woman. She looks at this age like she would have been better looking in her youth, if that makes any sense.

  • She doesn't need to look so old. A bit of hair dye, make up. It's her strange choice. Concerning Garland being fired: I'm sorry- you show up drunk or stoned to work, that's it. The movie was based upon terrible Jacqueline Susann trash, true. But the actresses had to be sober at work.

  • I think that is a wonderful story. So positive. XX

  • Actually, this wonderful, campy, god awful movie would have only been better with Judy Garland.

  • @weightfeather1 I love her remark about that! It's such a creative way of saying where she thinks the Rosses went after their death. They used and abused her and spent all the money she earned. Awful people! But Patty is a survivor.

  • Neely O'Hara. WOW! What a tragic figure.

  • does patty duke have progeria?

  • Judy was used as a "Meal ticket" by almost everyone I think except Her first two husbands who had talent and their own careers. What Judy went through in her life started when she was in Vaudeville and then continued through her 15 yrs at MGM and the pattern was already started. Say what you will, but tHe isn't a talent alive today that can even come close to Judy Garland.

  • @mikesterSTLMO Speaking as the gay producer of the show Patty happened to have full hair & makeup for the show done by the make-up artist from WICKED. Her grey hair is her natural color & that's the color she chooses - and good for her. Perhaps she could be stretched and dyed and look like the person she does not want to be so you can be happy. Your comments prove the immortal line Sharon Tate says in VALLEY OF THE DOLLS - "You know how bitchy fags can be."

  • @mikesterSTLMO "revolked" - well you,my dear, need to learn how to spell. Just shows ignorant people come in all sexual preferences.

  • @hostesshue/mikedickhead - realize people "fat finger" all the time on here. You two bitches sound like Helen and Neely. Most of us can spell the goddamned words but get ahead of ourselves and make mistakes. And what's this cheap ass reference about ignorant people and sexual preferences? You obviously have nothing better to do after whacking off than to sit around criticizing. And as far as mikesterASSHOLE, she made a little money. You? Honey, you do your hair and let Frisco do hers.

  • @hostesshue What a bunch of ageist comments. Patty looks just fine. I'm not for romanticizing the aging process as it is truly just a matter of decay, but I hope the gay community can move beyond the obsession of how one looks, and more fully focus on the quality of one's character.

  • @mikesterSTLMO Oops, please pardon my temporary lapse in good grammar. I even used "THAN" instead of THEN! But anyway, as far as Patty goes, it's surprising that you would allow her to go on stage looking so ragged, but I guess we've also learned that some mo's have no sense of style. Who knew?

  • @mikesterSTLMO PATTI can look much better than this, this is not becoming at all.

  • @etrax2000 Of course she can! A face lift, some dental work, about a year with a personal trainer, and a team of stylists ... and she'd be good to go.

  • @mikesterSTLMO iT'S not even the body.. as much as the almost exhaustive attitude she is using. She just seems bored and that can age a person quite a lot.

  • @mikesterSTLMO - Even though it's been 5 months, this bitch needs to learn how to spell and use punctuation. "Membership REVOKED, sister." If I were you, thank God I'm not, wouldn't you think a comma to be necessary after "make it right", and if you don't.........GO die your pubes. They need it more than Patty's hair.

  • @undeuxtroisquatreish You're too late dork; this tiff ended months ago. But I'm sure there are a lot of other arguments you can get in (horn in) on.

  • @hostesshue Good for you. I agree that if a woman chooses to keep her gray hair and age gracefully, we should be looking to her as a role model and not putting her down. Why is it that men can age and be considered a greater wisdom figure with every year and a woman is just considered a hag. Did anyone ever suggest that Walter Cronkite dye his hair? Johnny Carson? No! You go Patty Duke!!

  • @cdpjudith I agree-she is being something rare and beautiful-SHE'S NATURAL.

  • @hostesshue i love that line from Sharon Tate !!

  • @hostesshue

Um. the makeup artist from Wicked? That kinda explains it in a nutshell.

  • @mikesterSTLMO - see above. You're obviously a dick, not a big one, and your comments leave a lot to be desired. Are you really from St. Louis, MO? Oh, my God, such room to talk, sweetie.

  • @argerichluvr Look moron, she looks like she should be wearing a hair net and flipping burgers at White Castle. Some actresses age gracefully and retain their appeal; Patty ain't one of 'em. So kill the messenger if you must, but I'm as bored with you weirdos as I am with this subject. Now run along and go back to your gallon of Edy's.

  • @mikesterSTLMO

You know what? Good for her for being herself, and not some artificial magnolia flower.

  • @mikesterSTLMO Leave her alone. Ms. Duke has earned the right to wear gray/wrinkles after 50 years in the business. Love you Patty. And thank you for bringing attention to mental health issues. This person, for one, salutes you!!

  • Good story. Judy was lucky to be been fired from such a trashy movie.

  • I love Patty. She's very special and doesn't get the credit she deserves.

  • Patty Duke what a good interview. Loved how she finished with Judys sense of humour. Love Pattys resilence too. I respect both ladies.

  • She only worked with Garland for 2 days and yet she acts as though she worked with her for a month. Funniest bit: 1:22

  • @Cineramicfilms - your cynicism leaves me cold as a fag, Patty Duke fan, Judy fan.....just name it. Who the fuck do you think you are? Do we know or just assume Judy and Patty did not know each other prior to Valley...? Oh, Dahling, with your screen name you must be so important and the head (I'll give you head all right) of Cineramicfilms! Sorry never heard of it nor do I want to. Bye, sweetie

  • @Cineramicfilms

EVERYONE jumps on the Garland bandwagon! Funny how somebody so alone and abandoned had so many "best friends" after she died Dirk Bogarde, Anita Loos , Rooney, Patty Duke, Liza , Lorna, all claiming they were inseperable AFTER the event

where were these people when she needed them

  • @grai Liza and Lorna are her daughters. You forgot Joey. They wouldn't jump on the bandwagon. Judy drank herself drunk every night. What do you expect them to do? It was just the way it was.

  • @grrandram Liza and Lorna have made very good careers that they would never have had without the fact that Garland was their mother - their talent would not have interested anyone enough to get them work as lounge singers in a motel lobby!

All the documenteries about Garland are full of people saying "me and Judy...Judy always used to say to me..." like they were big buddies Where were all these people when Judy had nothing better to do but get drunk on her own?

  • Comment removed

  • Obvisously You never met Mr.Busby Berkley Ms.Duke..he was even

worst than the directorial S-! on "Valley Of The Dolls".

  • Yes I see her in Gypsy.. but Rosaland persona fit the part.. I feel that we as watchers of cinema always try to fit characters into parts.. but ultimately the ones who play the parts are meant to play those roles.. Its like saying I would have liked to see Jane Fonda.. play Audrey Heps.. part in my fair lady.. just doesn't work.. classics are classic for a reason...

  • I don't think Judy would have worked in the part as she was so tiny and frail. Imagine the bathroom scene? Patty would have ripped off her wig, her hair, her scalp, etc. Judy should have starred in "Gypsy" instead of Roz Russell.

  • I am a flight attendant, and sometimes see some celebrity faces... would love to meet Patty Duke on a flight and say hello Anna!... She reminds me of my mom.. have always loved Patty Duke

  • this is the kind of event where everyone in the audience knows more about judy garland than what appears in 20 biographies combined. so if you're just an ordinary Judy fan, you're not welcome.

  • its great to hear her talking positivly about Judy. She had a fantastic humor and I'm glad she displayed that.

  • @SOPHI3333333333333 every actor that that knew Judy, has talked about her in a positive way, and always talked about her fabulous sense of humor.

  • Judy could have done this Valley of the Dolls, had the Director not been such a bastard!!! A shame. I love the Susan Hayward role, but really wish it had been Judy. Just list to Patty Duke!! Richard

  • @RICHARDDAVISMCLEOD: I absolutely agree with you! When I watch the movie and see Susan Hayward playing "Judy's part" you can kinda see Judy performing the see scene and tune out Susan. Judy could have pulled it off but it would have been a bad reflection on her career if that had been her last movie. She would have been brilliant in it though. RIP Judy will miss you and you made us love you

  • We (HEART) Miss V! We met her at the Bette Midler concert at Staples Center(our gentleman friend bought the $100 tickets) in Dec 1999 and told her: "You make funny". She LOVED it and replied: "That's what my mother tells me".

    Discuss!

  • I have loved Patty since the film version of The Miracle Worker, which I saw when it came out, then her identical cousins TV show, I recall was on Wednesday nites. She is a mere 62 years old here, if anyone didn't know. The costume Patty is talking about at the end was part of Judy's settlement, the sequin pantsuit. An identical one was made for her replacement, Susan Hayward. It was Judy's good luck to have been fired and not seen in Valley, on everyone's guilty pleasure camp movie list.

  • I see that Anna has recovered from her "you should not speak ill of the dead" phase and is expressing her true feelings, which I feel is very healthy.

  • Lovely!

  • I love it. I want to see the whole thing. LMFAO at 1:21

  • Patty Duke is a true American treasure. I just love her, and will watch anything she is in.

  • I wanted to see more of the interview with Patty!...Can you post any more video footage from the tribute!?!

  • Consider yourself subscribed-to, kid.

  • Marc, you are the best...please continue to showcase stars here with small clips such as these. We attend all of your shows and have enjoyed each one. This was a great story Patty was able to share. Unfortunately, both my partner & I felt Bruce often hogged the conversation & we likely missed out on more stories from Patty due to time constraints. In defense of Bruce, he isn't the only interviewer guilty of this.....just let the stars reminisce & only interrupt to help jog their memory.
