How to Fatten your drums in reason

hey dude, how do you add effects to the aux in the mixer? i use seperate redrums, one for kicks one for snare etc. so that i can put effects on them seperately. but i like your way better how do you add an effect to JUST the first channel in the mixer?

@igotthesebeats tab to flip the rack. Then connect a send out (1) from the mixer to the input of the reverb, then connect the output from the reverb to a return (1) of the mixer. Then you can adjust the appropriate aux knob (1) on the mixer above the channel.

@TheSweetporridge ok sweet got that under control, now from what i can see.. this means only 4 effects in total for each redrum? and lastly i put a reverb on for a test, both the size and wet/dry were on zero and when i change the send from 0 to full it would raise the volume of the sample i had in that channel on the redrum. is this supposed to happen?

1. Why on earth are you using the miniEQ on ur Redrum?..You should route an EQ to it.

2. Use mastersuite to boost ur kick/snare?.. You use the mastering suite at the finishing of a song to finish everything. This way it will crank up the rest of ur song aswell.

Pre-record them in another sequencer or audio editor like Audacity, save out as .wav.

Create a new patch in an NN-19 or NNXT unit and load in your sample :) You can then trigger it back from the keyboard

shift click on all the devices used in your drum machine and then right click > combine.

then you can save your combinator so you dont have to set up your drums from scratch everytime.

another way to do it, because im not familiar with macs (sorry), is to just create what is known as a "combinator". You can then create synths or loop players or drum machines, anything, inside the combinator. once you do that you can click the disk icon on the cominbator display to save it.

main benefit is being able to use the same drums(or instruments) in different songs without having to "rebuild" the whole set up with fx and eqs. basically just a time saver.

basically, yes. you make the combinator then create instruments inside it and then route all of the instruments through the combinator and then route the combinator into the main 14:2 mixer.

first u need real good samples - then its about layering kicks and snares - and eqing them separately (to get the low out of the snare and the sub and mid out of the kick) - then running them just the snares and kicks thru a tape compression on scream 4 (everything else can be eq'd in re-rum, or nnxt or the mixer), then send your main mixer outs thru another tape compression. do this right and it will make your drums LOUD

dats right but the problem with tape distortion is just, that it can have a negative effect on the general "soundcolour" of the drums as it compresses and distorts.
