It's the perfect travel netbook. I can hop on a flight from Miami Florida to L.A. California and still have just a little over an hour left of battery life by just doing normal everday task.
hi all, im a complete ignorant about, so thats why the following question:how will this asus rate in % against my current laptop, a compaq presario c700 celeron 2000 ghz 3 meg ram running XP instead of W7..mostly asking about cpu performance.thanks!
I think it's funny when people think that processors clock frequencies really mean how fast they are. Well, obviusly a 3GHz E8400 is faster than a 1.3GHz SU7300, but the SU7300 is a dual-core, so it handles multi tasking well and is a lot faster than a single core 1.6GHz Atom N270 for an example.
Who would wan't to play games or edit hd-videos with this laptop anyway? The battery lasts for ten hours! I've already ordered the UL30A to replace my Eee PC 901.
Well, it can run Counter Strike: Source with DirectX 8 all settings low with native resolution. It's not really a gaming macine. If you want to play games, I would suggest you to look for a notebook with a little better graphics card. For instance, the UL-series has other models with better GPU:s.
yuckkkk!!!! 1.3ghz,,, so what if its duo... sure its better than a single core,, but comeone,,many uses should at least need 2.0ghz duo cores........(specially if u r a multi task freak.
humetu, are you an idiot? You don't judge a CPU based on its clock speeds. A 1.3GHz C2D is better than many of the other CPUs out there on the laptop market.
why is everyone so retarded. always complaining just cos its a 1.3ghx core2duo. if you want a 2 hour battery life, and thick ass laptop, go and get something that costs twice as much with its 2.53ghz processor. just quit complaining
@rawimpact ye i do know the price of this.. but if you look, my comment was 5 months ago.. before anyone even heard of the i3 cores my comment was perfectly valid.
even now im correct, cos an i3 with 3 hour battery is aimed at a different market to the ultrathin market..
@timithebeast good comment, there are to many cheap jacks out there, listen you dudes, you get what you pay for, you dig, message getting through, good.
@estosjapos : exactly,,, glossy mirror like screens are stupid,, i dont wanna see my face while using the laptop... even it can reflect my glasses on the screen,,, (my sister sometimes fixes her appearnace with this kind of screen.)
WARNING: with time, it gives head ache! just try..
You can install programs through an external CD/DVD drive powered/connected via USB.
You can also install programs if you image your CD/DVDs on another computer and then copying/mounting it to run on a mounting software (i.e. Daemon Tools)
There may be a few other options but these tend to be the two most common options people would use...
You can use USB dongles as well. I recall somewhere that most Software publishers are going to start supporting USB installation with the rise of the optical driveless net/notebooks.
Dude, you should hold on and get the newley announced ASUS UL30vt !!! as in switchable video card and turbo 33 technology! it will also come with bluetooth!! ASUS posted in amazon that it would be announced in the first week of december, go check it out!

datalapsi, I couldn't agree with you more. It's very nice to see someone who actually knows computers on here :)
I just got this laptop for myself as a college laptop (e8500 desktop will still be used for intensive tasks), and I couldn't be any happier with it.

Bro, u r forgetting about its cache (3MB), it helps a lot. Other 2.0ghz procesors have only 1 or 2 MBs

I hate glossy screens on ultramobile laptops! It's a nonsense for a laptop supposed to be used everywhere thanks to its mobility.

so how do i need to install my programs without a dvd rom drive? put all the programms on a ubs and the install it? Does that work? huge thx :D

You have a couple choices...
You can install programs through an external CD/DVD drive powered/connected via USB.
You can also install programs if you image your CD/DVDs on another computer and then copying/mounting it to run on a mounting software (i.e. Daemon Tools)
There may be a few other options but these tend to be the two most common options people would use...

i might be talking out of my ass but i do believe you use external optical drive for that.

i'd just get an external drive from best buy and return it when i'm done. or if you could get them online that'd work
