I'm impressed they convinced his spoiled ass to even go into a cave! Cavers are weird people and it definitely shows on the trip leader, way to represent! I bet he pulled out the classics like; you won't need pads.
It would have been funny if some one popped out of the tree exit and scared him when he got out, did that to a group once that we let out infront, it was soo funny
Did this cave yesterday. Awesome cave but Jack was an absolute pussy for not doing that sump. I've only been caving for a couple of weeks and like they said, your under for about 5 seconds and its over! A bit of a let down really :P
been there, awsome cave when its not too packed, tried the sump 3 times but helmet kept on getting stuck :/ will have to go back. Also good thing about the tree, it means the better climbers can pop into the front of the que :D
@cookingandmore I know this was an old comment, but we're taking a 3 and a half year old down a very basic cave soon :) There's no age limit to caving, just find somewhere basic and a good leader! I regularly see 6/7/8 year olds down some caves on school and social-club trips.
@cookingandmore That depends. In my country, you need to be 18 (or maybe 14, I'm not quite sure...) to pass the exam and become a certified caver, but other experienced climbers will take you caving even before that.
whatever they give him as a headtorch looks more like a museum stuff than anything else.... I don't get it! why struggle with 'almost zero lm' headtorch and battery on your back in XXI century when powerfull LEDs are available...
I did this sump before the end of my first year in university at the age of nineteen. I don't know about the rest of the stuff he's done, but if he like adrenaline then he really should have gone for it. The best moment of my life was surfacing on the other side with my heart pounding.
I agree Nige. I reckon the best caver of the bunch here is Jack Osbourne. At least he made a solid decision on what he was prepared to do, as opposed to to the utter twattery at the sump of the buffoon who was supposed to be leading the trip. I reckon with a competent leader giving proper, no bullshit advice and encouragement, sump one is a doddle.
WTF - Who is the idiot leading this? Sump 1 is easy but not with a moron in charge. I've been through it dozens of times but if he was with me on the first trip I'd never have gone near a cave again!
I can hardly believe that they took a first time caver through a sump. By my standards, going through a sump like that would be unacceptable in any situation. I do realize that some cavers do it and that's fine, but it seems really irresponsible to take a newb through that.
So I watched it again (the whole thing this time) and realized that they actually backed out of going through the sump. They sure spent a lot of time trying to talk him into it though.
absolute rubbish, i went through the sump on my second ever caving trip in university. The sump isn't big, you are in and out quickly, yes its damn cold but its not irresponsible to take a newb through it, especially someone looking for an adrenaline rush.
@StoopWalker ....First of all Jack "the hardcore" Osbourne bottled the sump secondly who is this leader? he should have gone through and back to show them how easy it was...thirdly I did sump 1 first time caving when i was 14 with scouts, it's about half a metre to a metre long, with a flippin rope to pull you through. Hold your breath for honestly 2 to 3 seconds and voila!!!....so very very easy. Sump 2,3,4 etc I will admit however...are very different stories.

I'm game for a lot of things, but not caving... it's a combination of my least favorite things: 1.) the dark, 2.) small spaces, 3.) cold, dirty water, 4.) rocks and 5.) the possibility of receiving a serious injury, LOL.
I love Jack. I always though he was a cool guy before rehab and absolutely love him after rehab.
Theres like no water, I went today and down the triangle it was a huge torrent, i got washed through it!!! Its a great cave, but i was so cold when we came out the wet way, up 4 waterfalls!! there was loads of water!
This must have been massively over-dramatised: I did Swildon's hole, including sump 1, on my second caving trip (with stream at full flow), and it was great.
Could Jack learn some new words other then f&$king this and f$^king that. Swildons is a fun cave, for the upper series you could do in a boiler suit and normal clothes under. To be comfortable a furry and warmbac, the longer and further you go and sump 1 a wetsuit is best.

I went without a wetsuit.. it got really quite cold towards the end. Wetsuits dont really work that well to keep you dry. Waterproof socks are great!
Its not actually slippery underfoot on the rock... dont be put off!
Just wear alot of warm clothing, keep moving.. take some chocolate and if youre really scared, slings are good so people can hoist u up!!!
