If you loved this you should read "A Novel of Fitzwilliam Darcy" by Pamela Aidan. There are 3 books in the series and they give a wonderful portrayal of how Mr. Darcy saw all the goings on plus some extra enjoyment into his honorable character. Colin Firth is always the face I put to Darcy.

To ninnipooh 1 - your video is the best argument to all those who think the 2005Hollywood movie has all the magic and chemistry of romance.

There can never be a fair comparison - the 2005 movie is not based on Jane Austen's book and the "romance" is not by Austen. They are missing a big part of the Austen narrative and text.

The 1995 version is faithful to the book - so you feel and live the period as intended. And Colin and Jennifer are immortalized forever because of that.

Colin Firth was, is, and always will be the best Mr. Darcy. Not even Laurence Olivier could hold a candle to his performance in this version. I just think he hit the character spot on! I love it!

I believe you can find it on most of the internet-sites that sells DVD's. You just have to search ;) I recommend that you see the 1995-version. And in your search, if you stumble over a mini-series called "Lost in Austen" you should buy that too! A quite different version of P&P.

I know what you mean about his smile, it's not directly there, but his eyes say it all. He truly is the best Darcy ever, and Jennifer Ehle's Elizabeth is far superior to any others I've seen. When my 1 year old son, was first starting to smile, it was barely there, I kept saying to people it is a Colin Firth smile, no one knew what I meant except my sister!

This is my absolute favorite version of this film; it is much closer to the novel in its content than the 2006 theatre version with Keira Knightly; mainly because of the additional time allowed for a tv movie to show and explain more of the story. BTW, I think that Colin Firth is GORGEOUS!

The 1995 P&P is a timeless classic, to which the 2005 movie never came close. '95 you really get to know the characters and believe them. 2005 they are too dishevelled and childlike, and far too thin!

I totally agree. The cast (the Bennett family) always looked like they had just appeared from a family basketball game or a relay race in the hot sun. I mean, at least they could have combed their hair! And Keira would look good with about 10--15 pounds on her. I'm getting used to McFadyen, but Colin Firth is IT! This version of Pride and Prejiduce done by the BBC in 1995, (from which the clips are being used for this video) is by far the best filmed version I have seen. The casting of Jane is far better than the version with Keira Nightly-(she's too thin looking for the part)-plus Colin Firth is quite possibly the best "Mr. Darcy" in all of theatre history.

Elizabeth sticks to her guns and blasts Darcy, but before finding out the truth. I love the part where Lady Catherine tries to tell of Elizabeth. She is so strong and Darcy is a great match for her. This is the best version of the book that I have ever seen and will ever. Thank God she turned down Mr. Collins. He was so annoying and rude.
