If you want to tap well AND fast, then you're going to have to pick up your speed SLOWLY. Use a metronome, and gradually increase the speed once you can play the lick cleanly at the original speed.

I have The Exact same strap. I doo some tapping. I bassically go for 5 and 6 sequence taps and alt. string taps, it gives it a cool sound. It does SOUND like you are pulling your taps off to hard try pulling off at an angle twords your palm it makes all the sounds the same.

as far as i remember the "one" solo from my metallica days it was all pull-offs which is harder to do. with hammer ons (like in eruption) it's a lot easier, but not correct.
