I finally went to Big Bend didn't see any bears:( but did go to Cattail Falls, I actually heard the water and was gonna ask if it was at Cattail Falls...
WOW!!!! It must of been great to see that. I have camped all over the back country in big bend and have never seen a bear. Hopefully, next time my luck will change. Thanks.
This is really an amazing video. You were so lucky to see bears. I had heard there was a small population at Big Bend, but I've been there a couple of times and haven't seen one. Thanks for posting. You have a rare piece of video.
Looks like the Boot Canyon area. On your way to south rim maybe? I saw a mother bear and two cubs near the basin early in the morning. Also saw one on the window trail and another in Boot Canyon near our campsite. Didn't sleep well that night. Three years in a row we have seen a black bear at Big Bend. We'll be going for four in September!
Wow, that's so awesome! Good luck in September, I hope you see some again! I'm going back during christmas time (we'll be staying outside of the park, though, so I guess our chances at Black Bears are slim), and I can't wait! Big Bend deserves way more attention from the great public than it's getting at the moment, but I guess it's kind of good as well for the wildlife.
And no, it wasn't at Boot Canyon! We saw them at Cattail Falls :)
Yeah, it's an amazing place! I might be going back next christmas, since my uncle and aunt will be coming to visit us and we're taking them there. I can't wait!
Probably you will never see another mother bear and her cubs but please be careful. I am almost surprised she allowed you to be that close to her cubs.
What an amazing thing you witnessed. I've spent a life time hiking in the mountains and have never seen a bear with cubs up close and personal.
Thanks for the warning :) we'd read tons of stuff about bears, and knew what to do. At a certain moment - actually, just after I stopped this video - the mother bear moved towards us to come in between the cub that had come down and us, and that's when we left. She was lying beneath the tree the whole time, but on all the pictures we took you can see that she kept an eye on us!
And you're welcome! I'm happy to make people happy with this video!
I assume you may live in Texas. You may have already done this, but you may want to also visit the Guadalupe Mountains. Big Bend has some easy hikes and some difficult ones, but most of the Guadalupes are difficult. Very beautiful, though, especially in the Fall.
I heard about it yeah! Sounds very interesting, but the thing is that only my parents, brother + sister still live in Texas, I moved back to the Netherlands.
Thanks for telling me, though, I'll tell my mom about it! :)
McKittrick Canyon in the Guadalupes is very nice. But, if they go, they have to go to the top of Guadalupe Peak and the Bowl, too. Too hot in the summer and you never know what you will get in the winter. Spring and Fall are very nice times to visit.
wow i know exactly how you feel. we went to canada after 10 years and our first bear sight was when one walked out infront of us about 10 metres away from us! it was amazing and then we saw a mother and two cubs up a hill side! they are so beautiful!!
Exactly! It's so great you had the same experience!
This was my second bear sighting, the first was in Yellowstone. I was lagging behind with my brother, and suddenly one just walks in a meadow, about 6 metres away from us. I actually started hyperventilating :)
Bear sighting is an experience you can only understand when you've experienced it yourself :)

Aw, then you really should do that! It's beautiful there. I think it's one of the most underappreciated national parks in the US.
