I noticed he removed the spring from the autolawk, why? It defeats the purpose of having the lawk.
This is a great knife, its my usual EDC, my favorite over the many SOG's, Gerbers, Spydercos, Bucks, etc that I have. The Twitch and Flash have spring assist, but I can open the M16 just as quick and easily. The Flash II is too bulky for EDC, but it is a great knife for tact gear or when low profile/concealment isn't a concern.
BTW, I carry a knife for purpose, not to impress people.
Actually the first generation of these knives only had the LAWKS system. it wasnt until recently that they started putting springs on them. The usual tell is that the button has a red marking in it similar to the safety of guns.
He removed the spring to make it easier to close with one hand, however that wasn't necessary because if you hold it down with your middle finder while moving the interal lock over with you thumb, you can easily close the blade and move your thumb away.
I have this knife and it is one of the best I have ever used.
This M16-13Z uses AUS 4 Steel. Pretty good stuff 55-57 on hardness scale.
From CRKTs site
"-Crude rip-off of patented LAWKS® mechanism. The counterfeit uses an illegal copy ...of...LAWKS ... . The samples actuating lever is badly bent. In contrast, genuine CRKT M16-14SF models come with our patented AutoLAWKS™ safety which is marked with a red dot and automatically converts the folder into a virtual fixed blade when opened and locked." - only reference to red dot.
thats not a CRKT. its a counterfeit. notice how the AUTO LAWCKS system has no red dot on it, it is inferior, and it prolly closes with a thud, and not a "snap"
the pivot screw is prolly smooth instead of checkered. sorry D:
that knife goes for 45+ btw
so if u got it for less, ur not getting a true CRKT
It's not a counterfeit and don't mouth off false information! The frst design had the Lawks design then they upgraded to the auto. This knife handles a lot better than the EDC because of the handle lenght.
You have to call people names because you're spewing false info and you got caught! Because of a red dot its a counterfeit!! You are more clueless than expected. Before saying dumb stuff you should inform yourself and own one!
I own one too, and it doesn't have a red dot. I bought it directly from CRKT. So either you have a model made in a different year or you have a similar model that is different. And by the way, the counterfeit section says NOTHING of red dots. And using a red dot would not be hard for counterfeiters to copy. Wise ass.
no, it's not spring assist, there in a stud that protrudes from the back of the handle that is actually a partial crossguard/hilt. sliding your index finger over it quickly will extend and lock the blade.
having a spring assist opening mechanism where the deployment is on the blade is legal, its only illegal if the blade is opened by a button or a switch
Even an actual switchblade isn't illegal, at the federal level. What's banned is selling automatics across state lines. Congress was still pretending the Constitution mattered to them, so they regulated autos via the interstate commerce clause.
So, it's perfectly fine to have an automatic assembled in your state and carry it there. Selling to someone in another state is verboten. Also, some states have their own laws banning them. A believe a few even ban spring assists.
I own the m16-12 small tanto. Works great & got it without the auto lock. Use it often, sharpen once a month, & still pops hairs off my arm! Was also in the Army, Hooaa, 11-B!
I have that exact knife, had it for years. I sharpen it about once a month and use it several times every day. awesome knife and not too brittle. holds a decent edge over time but needs to be sharpened regularly if you use it as much as I do.
I bought a very cheap 2nd hand ,but good condition M16 13z ,just wouldnt flip open smoothly.
A couple of drops of teflon oil fixed it up to working like new.The stuff I had on had was intended for bycycle chains , but worked very well , havent had to reapply at all.
Buy SOG, the assisted opening is superior, the double locking is nice. The FLASH and TWITCH series knives impress friends and are reasonably priced with over and under 3 inch blade models. USA quality made, they haven't sold out to cheap Asian manufacturers YET!
Moonlighter6, Remember this country was built on free enterprise. I own US an foreign blades and I have to tell you I bleed red and blue. Check out Crkt closer it is a US combined overseas effort. Inside Man
Buy a SOG, you'll never go back to CRKT or Benchmade, the SOG FLASH II has a fast assisted opening with little or no effort, gravity or force open stinks.
Great knife but I prefer the titanium version. I've owned CRKT's for years but perfer Benchmade. I've had CRKT liner locks fold and pop loose on me. The secondary lock helps though.
i have that same knife and its not a spring knife, its just super easy to open if fact its in my pocket now

topsscience 2 years ago
@snakeii0 the lawks feature is somewhat useless.
it only really functions to keep the user from accidentally engaging the liner lock during use.
thing is, its mounted on the opposite side of where the spring force wants the liner to move.
so it doesn't prevent failure as a result of abuse.
anyways check out the M21, its even better for EDC.
its the same knife but with a curved blade that has a big belly that is ideal for EDC tasks.
Whisper6911 1 year ago
oh yeah, the m21 has 8CR14MOV steel, which is analogous with AUS8.

i didnt say it wasnt auto dumbass, CRKT specifically stats that if there is no red dot on the lawcks or auto lawcks system, they did not make it.
