hung out with and saw them 1st time they came to nyc right after milo goes to college,me and my friends actually sung our own version of der weinerschnitzel called bojangles ( after the fried chicken place by the chelsea hotel ) with them as the opener !!!!!!! 83' ? !
I feel so sorry for the poor bastards that did not get to see this band in the 80's as it was the most badass live show to get in. I was fortunate enough to see them in ft collins at the ramskellar in 88 or 89 oh my god they killed it both times we couldnt believe that we were getting to see them. im 38 now and these were the days that defined what I became, thank god for punk
I'm 50 and remember seeing them in the early 80's at The Vex and other clubs in the So. Cal area. Glad to hear they're playing gigs. They were always one of the coolest and most under rated bands around.
I am 30 years old and have been faithfully listening to theDescendents for 11 years now.
Up to this point I have never seen my favorite band; theDescendents. This will change on April 7th, in Long Beach, California as they will be the main support for Bad Religion and Rise Against on Rise Against's tour!
Words cannot describe how happy and excited I am for this!
Thank you Stephan, Karl, Bill and most of all, Milo for making this show happen!!
The Greatest band period. For years i was playing and listening to lots of music but now that i am getting a little older(mid 20's), i find myself getting less and less interested in it. The Descendents though, i think are the one band that i will listen to alot until the day that i die. It's been a little over a year since Frank Navetta past away, RIP Frank!
I sadly started listening to them in 2004 when I was 13, but since the first time I listened to them I realized that they're the best punk band ever, and I listen to a lot of punk bands, including a lot of art punk of the mid 80s...
Thanks to the person that posted this. "Jean Is Dead" is probably my favorite Descendents song, but they never played it live in all of the times that I've seen them. Even one time when they were playing by request and I asked for it. Milo just gave me this sad look and said that they don't do that one anymore. This is one of the things that make them so great, they really take their music to heart.
Great to finally see it performed and even better following "Bikeage". I think that it's a perfect pairing and always wondered if the two were about the same girl.
gone are the days when bands would wear tshirts of other bands whilst performing, nowadays they all wear their own tshirts or some lame uniform dress code thing
Man i wish the sound wasn't so bad..but hey... I have been dealing with shitty sound on punk albums my whole life..and I rather it be poorly recoded punk than prestine recorded pop! Thats for damn sure!
All means to play hard, rock hard, be better and to kick ass. It's basically motivation to rock harder and to sound better no matter how awesome you currently are.
There's a descendents song called "All-o-gistics" that pretty much sums it up....it's just a simple methodology to better living (thou shalt not committ laundry, thou shalt covet thy neighbors food,etc...) Classic!!!
Well, I can't agree because I have a negative comment for all those Descendents bashers that I have to get off my chest: If you don't like the Descendents, you are retarded and need to get the fuck away from punk music because you know shit all! There, I feel better.
Descendents - the undisputed best American punk band of the 80's.....if ur new to these guys i highly recommend the album "Liveage" as a starting point. It is an addictive listen.
The descendents are one of the best punk bands ever. Not that there's a competition, it's just they're just an all around terrific example of how a band can just do it right.
