  • Norowzian v Arks Ltd (No. 2)

  • @aucifer1001 not just me then....

  • Sent here by my intellectual property law book

  • I'd really love to see this Advert return to the screens again

  • The ad that's absolutely second to NONE - sheer brilliance (and I don't even drink the stuff)! Thanks for this!

  • i wonder what your man is doing with himself these days...

  • those where the happy days after 2 world wars and numerous recessions "another irish institute thats gone is sadly irish biscuits(Jacobs), it was shut down by a greedy bastard ."

  • I regret not doing this dance when I was waiting for my complimentary pint at the Guinness factory last Sunday!

  • Possibly the best commercial in the world.

  • Reminds me of going to a brew pub with The Boy, aka Beer Snob #1, and listening to that pompous git CORRECT THE BARTENDER about how to "properly" pour a Guinness. I could give a rat's ass, I don't drink any kind of lager, stout or beer, but it was just EMBARRASSING. Should've kicked the shit out of him. Ya NEVER piss-off THE BARTENDER, damn, boy!

  • Makes me want to go drink a Guiness and I don't even like the taste of it!

  • wtf i dont get it

  • This was voted the best AD in 30 years. It was in a poll from both Ireland & England.

  • i love guinness.. i was at the museum, and there was one add with a deep voice that took about 30 seconds.. it was the smoothest voice i have ever heard... then i went in the tower and got me a guinness freshly brewed, freshly poured... delicious.

  • Thanks a lot, this is my favourite Guinness ad.

    Dancin' Joe Mackinney,,, unique.

  • Mckinney, sorry.

  • What is the name of this song and who performed it?

  • "Guaglione" by Perez "Prez" Prado

  • Ahhhh. this advert is awesome 0:53 had me in complete stitches

  • OMFG lmao at dis ad its so funny

  • funniest thing that happens is at 0:19...its hilarious LOL

Love the ad, the music makes it great :)

  • An excellent actor and a lovely person. :)

  • Ahh, takes me back, saw it a few times on TV recently, thanks!

  • barman nicely poured :-D i had forgotten about this 1 brilliant!

  • Brilliant.......absolutely brilliant!

  • best ad ever

    plus its irish

  • Back in the day I remember a friend giving me a floppy disk with a screensaver of this advert on, complete with music (if desired)

*goes off googling attempting to find it again*

  • what is the similarity between a pint of guinness and a vicar? both have black bodies, and a white collar, and a dodgy one will do your arse

  • God I used to dance to this ad when i was 6

  • god I remember watchin that ad wen i woz lil...

  • The guy is on Facebook; I've exchanged messages with him, and he seems to be a nice bloke. When I first saw this ad, I thought he would sound camp and clownish - I was really surprised to discover that his voice was quite deep!

I like the thing he does with his eyebrows at 0:20!

  • haha hes mental

    amazing advert!

  • miss4tunek2y, he is single, but not available. He once said that he'll never marry...pity, because I know loads of women who fancy him.

  • whats this music called again!! guanlion?? or something ahh! lol

  • It's "Guaglione" by Perez "Prez" Prado - and this advert is the only reason I ever bothered finding it :D

  • Chheers =P no pun intended lol

    close enough =]

  • this was my fav advert till the dot....... guiness is yumi

  • My all time favourite ad. ALWAYS makes me smile, everytime

  • Yay Joe McKinney!! One of my favourite ads of all time. An irish legend!

  • I had a screensaver of this back in the day! Classic.

  • It's weird, I was in the Guiness brewery in Dublin today (I've lived in Dublin for 3 years and only got round to it now!) and they had previous tv ads in one of the exhibitions. So naturally I went looking for this one but alas, nowhere was it to be found! I heard something a while back about the performer getting paid very little for this and lawsuits following its success... maybe that's why but tis shockin it wasn't there anyway!

  • it wasn't the performer who the lawsuits involved, another bloke claimed this ad infringed on a dance he'd recorded (and supposedly invented) prior to this being released. That's probably the reason it's not at St James's though. I always preferred the squirrels ad, but when i was last at St James's that wasn't on any of the screens either :(

  • In the case Norowzian v Arks, the Court of Appeal found that this advert was an infringement of a previous dramatic work, because this advert copies the specific filming technique of jump-cutting. So this advert was removed for infringement.

  • Pulled for the camera technique? How odd :( Ah well, que sera, sera...

  • I saw this advert at the St James kiosk in 2002. Didn't see it when I went back in 2006. :(

  • Awesome. Some people are so talented. How do they do that?!

  • i 'm nearly sure this ad had it's own billing in t.v mags....flippin brilliant!!

  • Lovely Day for a GUINNESS!!!

  • Ah the memories!!!!!! I remember this ad when I was a wee lad, I tried to copy his moves as well......good times

  • gotta be one of best ads ever ,pmsl

  • i got to agree, it was the first it set a precedent for Guinness advertising. ., i have wondered if I'd ever see it again ahhhh I am complete :-D

  • the surfer ad is better

  • Wrong, this one is better because it didn't use too many camera tricks - it was simple, and of course it was funny.

  • They'll never top this guinness ad!

  • Thanks for posting this! I have the poster that goes with this in my room.

    :)

  • can anyone tell me the name of the tune????

  • "Gauglione" (IIRC) by Perez Prado.

  • Thanks buddy

  • jasus, really does look like the perfect pint.

  • Some one finally posted this ad, WOO HOO

  • that is ironic, but also complete bull. he still acts

  • What are you talking about?? He's on T.V., doing 'Hollywood Trials' on RTE2 at the moment!!!

  • Jod3000, I'm sorry you feel the need to write this tripe.

He is a great man and is achieving wonderful things in this world.

  • meh... i'll survive :D

  • Omg if your going lie please do it a little better. I hope you die!

  • as do i, still a bit harsh to voice these opinions no?

  • Simply brilliant!

  • Guinness? BRILLIANT!!!

  • ahh the 90's

  • does anyone no what the music is called

  • Perez Prado -- Gauglione

  • sorry, no. but it's by someone called perez prez prado, i think it came out in the '60s

  • yes, it is an Italian song called "Guaglione", the authors are Nisa - Fanciulli

  • So glad to find this - I looked for it a few months back and couldn't believe it wasn't on here. The best ad ever! I think it was earlier than 95 though - early 90s at a guess?

  • Best advert ever. Used to have this as a screensaver on my PC. Ad dates from 1995.

  • where can i get this screensaver 4 my pc thank you

  • Good Advert? Better than most TV shows!

  • Poster is right, this is THE BEST guinness ad evah(imho)! im just glad that some1 who had it posted it :)

  • How long ago was this again?

  • Early to mid-90's. One of the reasons why I started drinking Guiness and haven't stopped. Priceless story. I was at a work Christmas party a few years ago, merrily drinking a pint of Guiness. The rest of the table is looking at me like I'm from Mars, saying 'how can you drink that?'. Fools! Guiness. Brilliant!!!

  • I know what you mean. It's the nicest stuff you can drink at a bar. Everything else just seems like carbonised piss. I love the stuff.

  • maybe you could learn to spell it right then! its guinness not guiness...

  • Ohhhhhhhhh the best ad ever !!

Thanks for uploading. Ooh and the extra info.

    :o)

  • BEST.

    ADVERT.

    EVER.

Guaglione by Perez 'PREZ' Prado is the tune!

  • I'd hate to end up as an urban legend story teller as I haven't double checked this up before posting, but I think that this ad was banned some time after it was released due to copyright infringement claims - it was very similar to something else and the ad team used it. The screen saver was likewise stopped. It has since become rare to find espcially as people don't know it's title (anticipation) or the tune spelling - gualione.

  • I'm pretty sure you're right. Some artist claimed they'd ripped off his work. I don't know whether it was banned as a result, but there was certainly a controversy.

  • It wasn't banned. The artist who claimed copyright lost his case. He was linked to the original concept and asked to direct it but refused for some pretentious artist reason. His own fault he missed out. But basically, no - it wasn't banned and the Guiness mob won the case. Enter "anticipation guinness" into wikipedia for more.

  • Thats quite a generalisation there. Congratulations on misrepresenting the past. Mehdi Norowzian, a commercials and Oscar Nominated film director, didn't want to rehash his old film Joy but offered to work on something new. Guinness Ad Agency refused and pretty much stole his work. So he sued, but the law said you cant copyright a performance, so he lost. Its pretty shocking when you see the original and how close the new one is, they copied camera angles and dance movements.

  • Fair point, you dont happen to have a link to 'Joy'?

  • I've seen Joy and the only real difference is there isn't a pint of guiness in the front of the camera.

  • @scepticchristian

You're right this ad was a total infringement. I and many others who were in the acting/comedy scene in Dublin around this time were asked along to audition for the ad. During the audition process we were shown the film and asked to view the moves to see if we could duplicate them for the ad. Then it transpired tht everyone was shown all the audition tapes and basically because Joe's face fitted he got the job doing a re-enactment of evryone's moves. Original hardly.

  • f***ing brilliant ad , bring this back on tv!

  • oh i love this ad!! this first came out when i was a young child and every time it came on i used to fall around laughing! pestered my dad for a sup of his pint for ages after that! LOL :)

  • The Guinness advert alive with the 'feel good' factor... Fantastic!

  • Greatest commercial ever made! Makes me want to do interpretive dance! Guiness! BRILLIANT!!!

  • Awesome! This really is the best Guinness advert they ever did, and I'm also very surprised it wasn't plastered all over YouTube. They also did a Screensaver for the PC. I must try and look that out sometime.

  • best ad in the world!
