I've ha these things play dead in my swimming pool about three or four times. They love moisture so it's a big attraction. But often people will try to scoop them out, thinking its dead, and that's when they get bitten.
I would like to find a website, or have someone here, who knows how the poison of these things fair against poisonous snakes such as the cobra or rattle snake. A black widow's venom is more potent that a rattle snake, but carries 10x less than the snake... . but it wouldnt make any sense. The black widow's venom is mainly chrrosive, while the rattler's neuro, isnt it?
The Funnel Web is actually just as fast, if not maybe faster. The Wandering pinches while the funnel web stabs. It would be hard to determine a winner, but I still bet on the Funnel Web. I know they would kill each other, but it's a matter of which spider dies first.
@Chris9017 Wandering spider is listed as most venomous in guinness world records but as a result of the venoms effect on mice. Funnel web venom only affects primates and insects so it is kind of hard to compare. Also the northern and southern tree funnelwebs are both significantly more venomous (and have a higher venom yield) then the usually referenced "sydney funnel web". My bet would be with the northern tree funnelweb being the worlds most venomous but in reality you can't compare them
@Fjellulv - Called Piloerection. Caused by massively high blood pressure that the atraxotoxic venom of the FW and the BWS produce in their bites. So you know, it is a very very painful erection, not a nice one.....
yeah they are quite deadly and if they feel threatened they attack without hessitation, those are 2 reasons why you should not mess with a funnel web spider. although there are species that are completely harmless it's best to just leave them be

They are fucking grotesque. The Brazilian Wandering Spider is the most deadly by the way. Do the research.
It amazes me... Aussies seem to take some weird type of pride in having deadly creatures crawling all over the fucking place.
