There was no "non-violent" protest which was broken up by police. there were fights broken up by police. they did respond with a non violent protest by sitting under the tree, and the DA responded by telling them that he could ruin their lives with the stroke of a pen. I think the boys should have been punished with suspension maybe juvie but not months in a adult prison.

That isn't true. It has been refuted by a federal investigation and other independent investigators. There was no "non-violent" protest which was broken up by police. there were fights broken up by police. And the DA made a presentation to the ENTIRE student body about what happens to people who commit violent crimes and how it affects the rest of their lives. It was told to ALL and was not as threatening as many want to make it out to be.

The bottom line we as black people need to come together and fight the fight of justice in this country because the law is against us from the cradle to the grave. First by unity, education and pulling our resources together to help each other. Racism still exists for us and whites will never understand our struggle or here us, I agree with Mos Def. Lets educate ourselves and start putting pressure on the poeple we vote in office that are suppose to be representing us.

I can't believe Mychal Bell has been in prison for 10 months, he should be released. Sad too say if they were Jewish this wouldn't even be an issue. Being black in America isn't easy. I can't believe they took out the Knowledge tree - ironic. Which means no one will be sitting under this tree.

Mos Def is a wonderful figure in Black society. A young articulate man and he rocks the mic like no other. It's good to see him there in protest just like he did at the VMA's in protest of Katrina victims. He is a true role model for ALL not 50 cent, all that money and he ain't even send a postcard.

first OJ didn't kill anyone...that's what you think. second did you know that white students jumped a black kid at a party and the police told him that he was at the wrong side of town and to go home then the white kid gets jumped now the 6 black kids are in trouble. (DOUBLE STANDARD)

the murder charges were dropped, for everyone involved. the only guy that's still in jail is there on assault charges and also because he was on probation when him and those 5 other cowards jumped the white boy.

The problem is these boys knew what a noose hanging from a tree woud do. Instigation breeds altercation. It takes two to tango and any other cliche that fits. The problem is the punishment was not dealt out fairly. Racial tension is alive and well in the country more so in the deep south and until that is addressed this will continue to happen, and happen without all of the news coverage to bring it to the forefront.
