I am currently sporting a moustache, but I shave the top part to make it thinner. I've been using a multiblade cartridge but I need to see what I am doing in order to make the moustache straight. So I usually just wet the moustache area and rub a thin layer of the common low quality shaving cream over the area so it isn't totally opaque. I'm switching to a DE razor quality cream and brush, what would you recommend I do to continue shaping my stache? I can't seem to find any tips online.
I've been using an antique DE for a while and I'm trying to decide between a Parker 89R, 91R, and a Merkur HD. Do you have any suggestions for a smooth, close shave without too much aggresiveness?
Im not sure how I stumbled on your videos but now that I have watched them it convinced me to purchase a merkur saftey razor. My problem and question is, how to get the hair that is immediately under your nose. I seem to be able to hit that area with the precision blade with the Fusion but not with my safety razor. Any ideas??
@LaMusicaDeDiablo I don't know, I just move my nose to the side and I can do it. Maybe use your Fusion trimmer for that area until your technique improves with practice?
This is what I've been doing. I received a Merkur long handled razor for an early Father's Day gift. I've shaved ~7 times thus far. My only cuts are actually on the lower rim of my nostril, as I try to angle the blade the right way to get those last few hairs beneath my nose. These nose cuts are nasty and bleed quite a bit.
Until I get better with the razor I use the merkur for the rest of the face, and the Fusion precision blade under my nose.
I am 13 and I got a semi-long moustache, and the girl I like didn't like it but my grandma wouldn't let me shave, so I plucked it all off and It hurt like hell
Thanks again for teaching these techniques; my mustache area is sensitive, but these techniques have been a tremendous help. The skin under my nose was 100% of any razor burn or irritation.
How long does this technique usually take you do to? I'm being shipped to Air Force Basic Military Training in under a month so I've been shaving my whole face every day to practice (I used to have a mustache and a soul patch thingy). I kinda do my own multipass (yours is better) but I really need to cut down. Since starting this my shaving time went from 7-10 minutes to near 20.
GotischOberst- You can get it back down to 10 minutes easy. I even have a video titled "The 10 Minute Traditional Wetshave"--check my channel page video tab.
do you use a trimmmer before u shave? cuz thats usually what i do.. i use a remington machine then, wet shave. I also dont wet shave alot, i find the machine does a good job, so wet shaving is usually once a month or so
Thanks for the tips once again. I unfortunately have a hard time shaving under my nose because it irritates my lip is I try to do more than 3 rounds at it. Plus, it doesn't help that I have dark hair follicles that make it look like I perpetual stubble even after shaving. Oh well. Thanks anyways! :)
i have exactly the same. when i'm done it still looks like i didnt shave well and have stubble but it feels smooth.also it always gets red and irritated, only under the nose. i tried many different soaps, creams and razors.

JSBojanglz- No, the Progress is still my every day razor. :-) But I thought using a long-handle razor would make it easier to see the razor head without my hand accidentally getting in the way of the camera angle.
Awesome! That's how I've always shaved under my nose. The way my grain works, I go with (down), across (outward), opposite across (inward), and then against (up). By the time I get to the last pass, the only hair I have left is usually right under my nostrils, and the only way to get that is to shave up.
WOW!!! This actually work. I tried this after I saw this vid. It's all about technique. Thanks.

I really hate shaving this part. SN pass in this area kills me all the time.

@nighserenity I'm sorry but I cannot help you with maintaining a mustache, I've never grown one.

@ElegyForTheMasses consider a Weishi DE razor. While not quite to the the quality level of a Merkur, they are quite gentle.

why is it so hard to shave the moustache area
daboss212 1 year ago
@daboss212 probably because you need to adjust your angle for every millimeter as it's a very contoured area

Hello! Very neat videos.
I notice you shaving against the grain in many of your videos, and was wondering your thoughts on the whole "ingrown hairs" thing?

Can any type of razors be used for the multiple under the nose shave like how you demonstrated in the video?
for example, a two, three or four blade razor wouldn't matter, would it?
fishbonezken 2 years ago
fishbonezken- Yes, this will work with any type razor. I've used a Mach3 without a problem.

Man, your shaving videos have helped a lot. I especially love how there's these kind of specialty shave videos, not just shaving in general. Thanks!

First of all, I'll echo the posts so far. I've been a subscriber for 2 years now... (and a traditional wet shaver for about 2 weeks less)
I notice in this installment you're not using your usual everyday razor? Did someone finally pry your Merkur Progress from your cold dead hand? ;-)
