@XuMuKaT there's also a way to reduce background noise, if you right click on the sound icon in the lower right of your screen. Then press recording devices, right click the microphone you're using and press "properties". Which is probably where you found the boost in one of the tabs. But the last tab 'advanced', should have a noise reduction. If it's not there, try getting the latest drivers for your microphone.

You talk about things that nobody really cares about. What you need to tell us are things like... the battery life.

1.) How long does the battery last on one charge. Give two numbers. One you browse the internet till the battery begins to go dead. For the other number, open up something like World of Warcraft or Halo and play it till the battery starts to go dead.

2.)How great does it pick up wi-fi? do a test, see how far away from your router you can go.

Basically, tell us about performance

@easyben21 wrong... xps 17 runs on a ddr3 graphics card ranging from a 1gb to a 3gb card if you go to the 3D version. while the alienware runs using the new, better DDR5 graphics card. this ranges from a 1 gb to a 2gb if i remember correctly. the 1gb ddr5 is almost 2x as fast as the 3gb ddr3 thats in the xps 17...

@chancho393 i also forgot to mention that the ddr5 graphics card is exclusive to the alienware line as of today. (there is also no option of upgrading the xps 17 to a ddr5 graphics card. this is what makes the alienware the better gaming computer... :)

Major problem with USB 3.0 Superspeed ports dropping out randomly. Dell hasn't fixed in 4 months. Also deceptive, sales claim 4 dimm slots, but this is only with 3D screen and 3GB video memory. Actually only 2 slots (max 8GB)

XPS 15 has a 15" screen XPS 17 Has 17" screen. The processor i would recommend for the best performance would be an Intel Core I7. Especially if you work in graphics and animation.

Maybe think of investing in a tripod and decent lighting if you are going to do reviews, this was like a dark rollercoaster. Also you could do the descriptions in voiceover for a more professional feel, easy to do with windows movie maker. Thanks for the review anyway

This is definitely a gaming laptop. 3GB of memory with 16 available GB of RAM will blow chunks on the new Skyrim (Elder Scrolls) game, not to mention the child's play it will make of Black Ops. Gamers recommended, but beware of overheating.

This video was helpful. I was able to see run time performance and experience what options I would miss if I opted out (like the lighting for they keypad). Thank you Rickrolled. I am going to get one, now that 3d is out with 3GB of video memory. Is the turboboost gadget only for monitoring? Maybe the app that manages the turbo is under the start menu, something like intel or turbo boost.
