  • Wow this is great..I have never seen a clip of Elkie from this period

  • She improved with age

  • Very strange to remember that she was 19 in this clip. She sounds so much older.

  • She could pull off some blue-eyed soul...did she ever get any chart exposure here in the States?

  • I had no idea how far back Elkie went. Damn, this was balls out awesome!

  • @Dspringerable

    it´s amazing

i thought she only became know after "pearl´s a singer"

    fantastic

  • I remember Elkie from the seventies, but if this is the kind of thing what she was doing in the sixties, I like it even better. This really shows what a great voice she has, and that she's a great soul artist, too!

  • Sounds like this is where the group Cousteau "Last Good Day Of The Year" got its influence from.

  • very glad to see this )) thanks a lot for posting

  • She is the U.K's best Rock and Blues female singer-and no contest.

  • Dusty Springfield had a very similar sounding single out at the time called "All Cried Out" which was also originally recorded by an American (Darlene Paul).

  • I first saw her in the Kings road Chelsey in 1968 when she would be a guest singer with the humphfrey Littleton band on more than one occasion

    But for soul singers of this time check out Timmy Yuro ;;hurt;; whats a matter baby;; thirteen hour;; sorry;;

    all the best jimmy

  • @jimmyonecoke Elkie recorded "Whats the Matter Baby" Timi Yuro contacted Elkie to compliment her on her version.

  • Love her, but didn`t know she was singing already then:-)

  • Who said white British girls didn''t have soul - she sounds like a black woman. I prefere this to the American version done by Mary Clayton.

  • @child1959 Totally agree, a great vocal.

  • Very Rare clip.

Which show/T.V. Programme is it from?

  • @rockintc, this is from Shindig

  • wow she was only 19 in this footage wonder where the huskiness came from later

  • This is an absolutely awesome song!!!

  • Boy she sure does look like Cilla Black in this video. Hair the same, face so similar.

  • Nothing like Cilla Black. Better Looking. Cilla has red hair. Elkie ihas Dark Brown hair. Elkie can sing !!

  • @bluetit1991

  • Where the HELL do you get all this awesome footage? I'll give you $10k for your secrets. You can give me a line of credit, right?

  • You should hear the original of this by Merry Clayton - produced by Dave Gates - even better!

  • Ras Aussie beat-ballad.

  • Aussie?

  • Oh yer, maybe not.

  • Somebody should put this lady together with Robert Palmer.

  • I don't think that collaboration would last...

  • @nicmart you're being ironic right
