  • I fail to see the difference between this and the version found on the deluxe version of Gish

  • @tommytentiming There is no difference. This version is only featured on the Deluxe version and "Singles" soundtrack. Other than those, it's without the Feedback solo. Which I think Is fuckn amazing.

  • I forgot, you helped me remember. Thank you.

  • excellent.

  • thanks bro!!!awesome!!!

  • From 4:30 the song gets even more amazing!!

  • Chamberlin's drumming is brilliant

  • great band, but having seen them many times back in the 90's, I miss Iha and Darcy... also, Billy's voice can get pretty bagged out and sound HORRIBLE after a long tour. They're also a really hard band to nail the sound on live since they use so much layering of sound on their albums... I remember one show being just TERRIBLE and not really sounding like them at all and another was just amazing. the 90's were one of the best musical era's of ALL TIME. I'm so glad to have seen it...

  • Just amazing, the distortion is just brilliant!

  • the only thing missing from this masterpiece is hendrix's voice. great post!

  • Drown has always been my favorite Smashing Pumpkins song just for the feedback alone. That whole Singles sndtrk was amazing but then it got to this at the end and it blew my mind. There is feedback like Neil Young + Crazy Horse, which is more out of control (but no less powerful). Then there is Corgan's feedback here, which is what I call controlled feedback. And it has a certain melodic beauty to it that can't be duplicated. In other words, a bad ASS tune!

  • @Madman007 The feedback is very pentatonic, which is probably the most melodically satisfying and uplifting scale to your ear. (It reminds me of when I was a little kid and I used to try and write songs on my grandma's piano by only playing the black keys.) It's just very satisfying in that way, but it's unique in a sense that it doesn't completely pander to that, sometimes Corgan will throw in a very minor or diminished sound in there that allows it to end on this pervasive tone of darkness.

  • @Madman007 And it's all done with an ebow and feedback, how crazy is that?

  • this song has been stuck in my head for a while now, but i couldn't think of the name. i've watched a lot smashing pumpkins videos. it was a great ride. now i must sleep.

may you have a nice life, till we meet again...

  • If you like Smashing Pumpkins then check out A Cult Like Vulture Youtube Channel!!

  • Feedback - love it

  • Why are people talking about Lady GAGA on a smashing pumkins song? She sucks....

  • I literally had 30 straight seconds of shivers down my spine on the feedback solo

  • Comment removed

  • the ending solo is kinda creepy

  • I don't get why they took out the feedback solo on the album. This song isn't really "drown" without those howling noises..

  • 15 dislikes... Whats wrong with you people! lol! I know it takes all sorts to make the world go round but.. have a wee un bias listen, just this once! for me? the guy who hated everything that wasnt RUSH, PINK FLOYD and the PUMPKINS.. I've had to eat so much humble pie since my eyes where opened!! But i still cant deny the fact 'Billy and Jimmy' have been the 2 most inspirational people in my life.. I feel like i know them personally! They have been there for me through all my up's and down's.

  • new and old smashing pumpkins, to me its all just one magnificently talented band

  • This song will always take me back to being in high school in 1992.

  • This song sums up what The Smashing Pumpkins were.

  • Hey music lovers, I posted a 480p mix of the song for those of you who like it to be higher quality, just click the annotation in the video and it'll take you to it, and listen on!

  • I love this song SOOOOOOOOOO much.

  • Just what the doctor ordered

  • Comment removed

  • I hope it's obvious to Pumpkin heads that getting "the band" back together was a bad idea. When your favorite band is fresh in your mind, and they've broken up, it's only natural to think about a reunion. This is silly, especially when that band has a vast collection of phenomenal tracks. Isn't that enough? Haven't you heard of the phrase "if it isn't broken, don't fix it"? I don't want to remember the post- Zietgiest Pumpkins. I choose to remember the old one-- the meaningful one.

  • i like how the song has been edited (czar-chasm) on certain CDs. the whole song is amazing...but what is it without the second half!??!!?!?!?? BUY THE "SINGLES " SNTRK FER FUCK'S SAKE

  • This will be the song played at my funeral.

  • Great song sooo early '90's

  • EBOW + DELAY

  • I fucking love this song!! I used to play this on jukeboxes in bars!! The feedback at the end makes this song. I miss the 90s!! It was the best years of my life!!

  • @SimplyRawToby Like you, I used to play this on the jukebox in the pub I frequented back in 1992. They had the Singles soundtrack on it, but I don't think they expected anyone to play this track. I love this song from start to finish, but to see the looks on people's faces during the feedback solo was a bonus.

  • @s950abuser yeah cause i am right. the real rappers are shot dead before getting into the booth!

  • Comment removed

  • @Paintavulgarpolaroid well i don't like no rap shit cause its never real anyway they lie all the time. and bullshit in their lyrics! it's garbage!

  • @MarkyTooCool Not all rap is garbage, what we are now seeing is the mainstreaming of rap and hip hop. I personally am not drawn to the genre, but there is some nice stuff there. The whole New Jack Swing movement was pretty cool, there's some nice stuff that isn't in the mainstream. Music in general has just been gradually declining since about 97/98 or so.

  • Τhe Pumpkins & Sonic Youth = MAGIC.

  • the feedback... oh God, that feedback!!

  • Seriously, I don't like Bieber or Gaga but stop talking about them and these 'musical' atrocities will go away quicker. ;) This is a great tune and Singles was an AWESOME soundtrack.

  • Bad publicity is still publicity. Remember that kids! :)

  • I wish ...I wish I could fly ;-)

  • 15 people like that rap shit! and don't know good music but stupid shit like eminem, lil wayne, and other garbage like nicki and drake!

  • I wish we could go back to where we listened to real music not lil wayne or some crap

  • I wish we could go back to when we would listen to real music not Lil Wayne, Eminem, or god forbid kesha

  • one of their best

  • To leve out the ending of this song is totally irresponsible. Thanx for the WHOLE THING! Masterpiece!

  • I can't explain how good it felt to hear this song again ... its been a long time

  • I think Smashing Pumpkins are the best at making great mello songs but still having great heavy distortion thrown in somewhere.

  • @fastfortress no shit. all i had to do was listen to realize that. THANKS!

  • Great Road Trip song! Respect from Michigan. Power to the Peaceful.

  • love the riff :,,)

  • @JonnyDayCase Singles OST has the full version it was a Cameron Crowe movie about growing up in Seattle

  • my favorite tune by these cats. The reverb and feedback destroy me. I met Billy one time, he was cool. He has a giant birthmark on his arm/hand. That is all.

  • The 15 people who disliked... (sigh, I can't believe I'm saying this)...should drown

  • It is a miracle in the history of rock and roll that this song was made, enjoyed, and then even played (full and unedited) on the radio. Speaks to not only a different time period in music, but to a different type of listener.

  • @JonnyDayCase tr

    try 4shared

  • the 15 dislikes got CPR before they drowned

  • Im sure im not the only one who thinks Smashing Pumpkins is a freakin awesome name for a band.

  • magnificent !!

  • pfft. 11 people out of 636?! Who the hell cares? 175,723 views too!

  • Peaceful. Perfect. Infinite.

  • This is the first song I heard of the pumpkins,by chance,6 years ago.

Ever since I'm in love with the Smashing Pumpkins.

And I'll never understand how someone can dislike them.I can get that for any other band, but the pumpkins??

    That's nuts to me.

  • hauntingly beautiful!

  • The best feedback solo ever recorded

  • this song changed my life in 1993, forever.

  • ''music to drown by-now I know I'm in first class!!!''

  • wow! that solo was mind blowing ! ! ! great song has very nice tone to it its just awsome

  • really brings me back - fantastic song...

  • @thelumptube whats an ebow?

  • Goddamn beautiful lyrics... reminded me of a fallen friend... you`ll always be in our minds broder

  • one of the best songs ever and i got to hear it live twice!!!!!! aaaaaaaaaaaa i miss MY pumpkins!!!

  • /wrist

  • beautifullllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  • @SiameseDream4321 agreed

  • This song belongs on Siamese Dream.

  • does anyone no how to play that feedback solo??, if soo please tell me , its sooo crazy!!

  • @Ryanincambonia I think its played with an Ebow, but not the same way you would normally play with an ebow

  • God, what a song.

  • everywhere I look, I see something about Justin Bieber, Lady gaga or an other crapy music shithead...

instead of giving these people the attention they want, listen to the masterwork of smashing pumpkins, Nirvana, Radiohead, The Beatles, Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floys, R.E.M. and all other great bands, give these bands the attention that they deserve...

  • @addicted2slipknot666 FUCK YEA. BOYCOTT THE PIGS.

  • @addicted2slipknot666 they got it back in the day sucka

  • @addicted2slipknot666 Worded perfectly,Could not have said it better myself.

  • @addicted2slipknot666 Lady Gaga's an incredible artist, thank you very much. Other than that, I agree with you.

  • @GiddyPinata I couldn't disagree more, what exactly is incredibly about her simplistic usage of chord over done progressions? Musically there's not really much she has contributed in terms of uniqueness and creativity. Certainly not to the extent of bands like Smashing Pumpkins.

  • @MsFelixtheCat50 Lady Gaga actually has contributed a lot. I can agree with you when you say that some of her chord progressions are overused. But through her live performances she's showed that she has incredible talent and she has completely changed the chord progressions during these performances. This shows that she's an incredible musician. I feel like you've made this judgement on her based on her "radio" versions of the songs.

  • @incredulouspotpourri Just because someone has talent, doesn't mean they're using it. I don't doubt that Stefani has talent, but the persona she has created, Lady Gaga is nothing but a shock value entertainer. If Stefani Germanotta can get past the "crazy, shocking artist" facade she has created at the lack of discipline and excessive indulgence she received, she probably could be great. But I don't judge artists on their potential, I judge them on what they have created.

  • @MsFelixtheCat50 I guess i can see your point, but i don't think that that's a very good way to go about looking at musicians. If you look at them based purely on what they've created then how are they supposed to get anywhere?

  • @incredulouspotpourri That's fair enough, although I'm a bit confused. How I can base my judgement on something that does not exist. I base my judgement on what musicians have created.

  • listening to this on some magically fungi

  • Thank you for posting this non-crap version! This is the first Smashing Pumpkins song I ever heard... My mom had a stoke on Christmas Day of '92 and this was the first song on a tape my sister had made me for Christmas.

  • i dont get the dislike button on music vids. if your watching chances are you like it

  • Who needs heroine? Smashing Pumpkins and vino are the best high.

  • I listen to Lady GaGa and the Smashing Pumpkins too. Got any problems with that? I've got a schizophrenic taste for music I admit.

  • they use a mellotron to get that flange sound

  • perfect song to go longboarding to while high as a motherfucker! :D

  • some of the most amazing & beautiful feedback since Hendrix!

  • The clumsy eleven people who's fingers slipped should really be more careful next time.

  • love this

  • those 11 person are stupid!

  • those 11 person are stupid!

  • and then billy peddles flower-power runofthemill pop rock songs like Freak under the same name... dammit. Billy has like 10 unreleased TGBK songs of this caliber of epicness, but the horrible production coupled with billy's fear of the past... theyre most likely going to be buried. it's a shame he went the way he did.

  • Drown by three days grace has more views than the Smashing Pumpkins, WE HAVE TO CHANGE THAT!!!!!!

  • Billy at his prime. His vocals on this song is the absolute best. Its a shame he can't sing like this anymore. Oh well old age will do that to you.

  • Grunge is still alive :)

  • the 11 people that disliked this have no souls.

  • @danrlebert

I have a soul, and it likes good shit, not processed pop bubblegum bullshit.

  • @DirtySanchezProject cuz 4 minutes of feedback is totally pop viable. radios ate that shit up, they did

  • @DirtySanchezProject

Not the dumbest comment I've ever read on youtube but I do want to thank you for trying your very best.

  • @danrlebert the 23 people who liked your comment about liking are even lamer than you. Why is it every video I go to has a lame comment busting on other anyone who could have clicked dislike? Do you guys have a forum or something about how to look cool on youtube? Try just shutting up and listening.

  • @bobvillain Great comment, great song!

  • @bobvillain Nicely put.

  • @bobvillain I'm sorry if my comment pissed you off, but others seem to get where I was coming from. I love this song as did my best friend, it was his favorite song and he used to play an awesome version of the lead parts on my bass when we played together(he played lead). I made my comment just after I found out he died. we also had this played at his funeral, so this song really does mean a lot to me. but your right it's not my or anyones place to say what people should and shouldn't like,

  • @danrlebert holy attempted guilt trip.... I just get sick of the top rated comments being this generic cookie cutter about the "x" number of dislikes.............

  • you mean 15

  • you mean 15

  • best song for ever and ever...

  • @alexandreuar And that wretched Epic records, which dicked Michael Jackson over too, buried it on the Singles soundtrack and would not release it as a single.

I listen to this and I wonder how anyone can sit through auto-tuned crap without ripping off an arm and stuffing it down his own throat to end the pain.

  • The dream of the 90s is alive in Portland. For some reason that got me thinking about this band, and invariably this song. Haunting.

  • the guitar solo on this song is just fantastic man

  • Jimmy Chamberlin may be the best rock drummer of all time. That's just my opinion, mind you, but there's plenty of supporting evidence for that supposition in this song ...

  • @jgbuckley Jimmy is actually a jazz drummer who wound up in a rock band. But, you are right, without him SP could not rock nearly as hard. I have some of their early stuff when there was no Jimmy and just a drum machine. He transformed the sound of the band and gave it attitude. He is the bite behind Corgan's snarl.

  • @Zeppelindog88

    The Singles soundtrack.

  • The bass on this track is bumping in the car. Fucking amazing. : )

  • What album is this off of?

  • This song is so peaceful and emphasizes a lot of different sounds guitars can make to create a masterpiece

  • @1:15 is the absolute most awesomely epic part ever....

  • Comment removed

  • i love snowboarding pow to this song =D

  • To see a new band inspired by these put in /watch?v=kHz2C9NcFws see if u like it :)

  • I am wondering how in THE HELL 10 people don't like this song!?!?!?!!? Go back to your Kanye West,LEAVE and never come back!!

  • @generationx1966 MAYBE, someone has different tastes than yours, never thought of that? i know it's hard, but try to think that not everyone likes the same stuff as you do.

  • @Heikki1423 I am sure that is the case. You're probably one of the 10 ,too.Go back to listening to Lady Ga Ga and quit wasting my time.

  • one of the 15

  • @Heikki1423 If you don't like certain things that's fine but if you can't at least appreciate it then that's where I have a problem. Whatever you like is fine but don't diss something you don't have anything to diss about objectively.

  • What an amazing song! makes me nostalgic for the early 90's.

  • just a perfect song!!!!

  • love the dual feedback at 1:16....my favorite part of the song.

  • this is the cure for all that ails one

  • i love you, pumpkins. <3

  • sounds like phaser

  • Hands down, best smashing pumpkins song.

  • it's from Single's soundtrack

  • Jimmy's drumming on this always makes me swoon with joy. What a brilliant song.

  • @loctorpse True. The feedback at the end is amazing.

  • favorite song

  • jimmy makes the band stand out from a lot of bands.

  • @SOADownsnubs So true...the Corgan/Chamberlain combo was pretty potent.

  • The full version is the only way to listen to this song. I liked Billy so much better back in this phase of his sound.

  • Favorite song by them.

  • One of the first pumpkins song I ever heard, off the Singles soundtrack, to this day I am a big SP fan, thanks for posting...God I feel old...lol.

  • 9 fags missed the like button.

  • feedbacker?

  • this song bringing back memories

  • my favorite s.p song

  • He uses Frippatronics, if interested check out some of Robert Fripp, Brian Eno, Adrian Belew. Some of the most under rated musicians ever.

  • Love the full version. Billy's feedback and delay is really beautiful and mesmerizing. Pure epic.

  • I remember listening to this song for one whole summer when I was 13,I used to listen to it going back home alone at nights and only looking up,gazing at the stars and eventually I'd lie on the road waiting for the song to end,not giving a damn if a car passed by.

I can't believe I forgot it for 4 years, makes me sad how growing up I lost that magic..

  • @skizmsucks23 it sounds like phase to me

  • this song is stuck in my head ...had to hear it

  • Thank you for posting the full version. This was the first Smashing Pumpkins song I ever heard. My sister made me a tape for Christmas of 1992. My mother had a stroke the very night and it was all I could do at the time to play it.

  • fuckin love the solo.

  • Phazer Pedal =O) I love the riff ;;;;;

  • top ten fav songs ever

  • Always been one of my favorite SP songs. I've gotten high listening to this on more than one occasion, but don't need to be to enjoy it

  • That is phaser and big muff sustain brotha
