  • The two best announcers I havd heard in my lifetime: Charles van Dyke (WAVY-10 Hampton Roads), and Ernie Anderson.

  • You know what, during the 1960's to the 90's before every newscast they always have a sponsor that is frequently said.

  • Whatrs OHIO EDISON never heard of that

    or the illuminating company

  • I didn't catch that weatherman's name - Dan Doberwalsky, did Ernie say?

  • @Ian16545 That's it!

  • @Ian16545 Dan was also on Chicago's Fox32 WFLD. His last name is(see if I can get it right)Dobrowolski, he left WFLD back in, I believe, April 1992.

  • I almost forgot. Every time somebody didn't get Dan's last name right, he was upset.

He hosted this talk show when he worked at WFLD and he said that somebody signed a book for him. He threw the book down on the floor and walked up to the camer and said

'WHO IS DAN DABROWSKI? I'M NOT HIM AND THEY STILL CAN'T GET IT RIGHT!

MY LAST NAME IS DOBROWOLSKI! GOT IT?'.

The one(that signed that book)spelled it Dabrowski, by the way.

  • @jhshifris1 I mean, walked up to the camera. Sorry about that.

  • Ted Henry was Cleveland. Ted Henry is Cleveland. Ted is missed in Cleveland!

  • WPTV look alike.

  • I'm Ron Burgundy-you stay classy, Cleveland...

  • Ernie Anderson Rocked.

  • Ole Miss has a desk just like that in their studio center that was donated years ago...I wonder...hmmm...

  • I think that desk and backdrop would also be used over at WMC -- at the time, they were sister stations, weren't they?

  • They were indeed. If only they still were.

  • @amnewsboy No, they were now. WMC is a Raycom NBC station and WEWS is a Scripps ABC station.

  • @jhshifris1 I mean, no, they were not.

  • This was my favorite WEWS theme music over the years. A pleasant iteration of the "catch five" melody with just the right amount of tension, yet not overdone in pomp. The arpeggiated chord gets me as well, whatever it seems to be (sounds like celesta, but may just be a Rhodes). Makes me want to catch 5, and that chord I describe was an ingenious way to get attention from across the living room or kitchen due to that chord's way of cutting through the air whether in a bumper or at show open.

  • I think the set and open debuted in late 1984

  • Looks like this set debuted in 1985. Then "Good News" came in 1986.

  • @ASKconard To make a long story short it did.

  • Ernie Anderson was simply the best when it came to voiceovers.

  • I have a ton of his stuff, He really was the best!

  • Awesome!

  • Yep, He must have done voice-overs/intros for nearly every ABC/Eyewitness News station in the country!
