Olbermann makes very important and valid points and show good 1 upsmanship. The republican party has taken the moral high ground for far to long to just let the shams, scandals, hypocrisy, and sheer ironies these guys used to get away with go unnoticed. Exposing these guys teaches lessons for history and keeps politicians honest. For the future, this may insure that our elected officials adopt new personal policies for public behavior.

Except his rebuttal of O'Reilly and Miller leaves out a very important point. Yes, Obama came out against the devisivness of Prop. 8. However, O'Reilly and Miller ARE right that Obama is also on the record opposing gay marriage. He supports civil unions, but not marriage. So actually it seems to me that if Obama had been a California resident, he would have voted "present" on Prop. 8. More importantly, Miller, O'Reilly, AND Olbermann are ALL being less than ingenious with their analysis.

the only cause of AIDS that I am aware of is an acute infection by the HIV virus which is primarily transfered via sexual intercourse. the greater point the senator was trying to make is that the government can not be response for people after they make poor decisions. for example, the courts in nyc awarded a man $2.5 million for losing his legs in a subway accident even though he was admittedly drunk and admitted that the accident was entirely his fault. At what point does someone say enough.

You should listen to the senator's actual statement rather than the fragments used and twisted by Olbermann. He clearly in his statement challenges the role of government as it pertains to miitigating the results of individual's poor decision making. The reference to the subway incident is a perfect example to relates to this issue.

The bill SB 179 is mostly aimed at protecting the innocent public from individuals with various infectious diseases. The mandatory testing of pregnant women, also meant to protect an innocent individual - i.e., a baby - is only part of it.

I have read the transcription of the senator's remarks. His stance is bizarrely at odds with the clear intent of the bill - again, to protect the innocent, not the infected - and shows a dangerous, judgment-impairing obsession with matters sexual.

Besides, AIDs isnt only through sex with people you dont know, or simply sleeping around with lots of people. It can be with people you know that dont know they have aids, or even your girlfriend who doesnt know, but one things for sure, marraige doesnt fix that

Absolutely. Refuse the mother treatment so the defenseless baby will be born with AIDS, hopefully to suffer and eventually die, thereby causing the mother to be punished for having the disease, because the absolute only way to contract HIV is through your own personal sexual behavior, not through that of your spouse, or transfusions, or medical malfeasance.

Treatment in utero would prevent the baby from ever being HIV+ after birth.

But I'll bet Dave Schultheis opposes abortion.

The transmission of HIV via transfusions or medical malfeasance are very rare cases. Sexual activity and the use of infected needles remain the primary means by which HIV is transmitted. I have no idea what Dave Schultheis' stance is on abortion.
