  • Thanks for posting! I grew up in East Bank till about age 11, and this is one of my favorite memories. You could hear this train coming almost from Hansford, and we would run to the end of the street to see this train come through.

  • YOU SUCK CSX!!!!!!!!! Steam should return to the New River Train in the near future! You will pay for destroying the steam program!

  • The new river train just inst the same without steam. Steaming pulling that long passenger train up the gorge was the premier feature of the run.

  • It should be the other way around!!!!!! 765 shoulda passed Amtrak!!!! NO RESPECT!!!

  • Amtrak you suck! They should have slowed down for the new river train, and great vid pf 765 in it's excursion glory! The 765 was doing a great job going up the grade with that heavy train, I really love the 765, hopefully they get it running on big excursions again.

  • @nkproad777 hell thy did the same thing to me last year I was on the Empire Builder in Montana and we blew by 4449 us going west him east it pissed me off I heard 4449 on my scanner we did our station work and passed it outside Havre Montana to close for a shot

  • Oh my God! That thing is awesome with a long train! I wish they would resume the steam powered New River Trips. The P42DCs just don't cut it for me.

  • nice 765 footage the stupid desial just got in the way

  • anyone else notice that viewliner prototype on the cardinal?

  • @JSimp140 what about that baggage car bouncing up and down

  • @JSimp140 ah hell not till you mentioned it thats cool to see great eye I was paying attention to the now gone heratage cars and F40s leadig the train

  • @JSimp140 I ment now gone F40 not F40s there was only one my mistype I liked the cardnel like this I miss it I grew up with the early Amtrak as a boy here in Texas

  • The F40's are gone too - and there's a reason why steam is obsolete....

  • I was on the 765 that day, what made the Amtrak special is that Bill Clinton was on it campaining at the time.

  • Why does everyone talk about the Amtrak?? The star here is 765!! Not any dime a dozen diesel that can be seen anywhere today. Long live steam!!!

  • what were the numbers on the cars 711 and 713 used for what nrhs did they belong to

  • That Amtrak train is hauling! Looks to be going 80 mph+

Nice shots of the 765 too.

  • Why didn't I have a chance to see the Cardinal pulled by F40's and having more than 5 cars? :( Awesome video.

  • Outstanding footage!

  • more bounce to the ounce

  • Oof, that's some rough track the cardinal passed over there. Excellent video of the 765 however. You can even hear the engineer adjusting the cutoff as the train starts to gain momentum. Well done.

  • Man I wish I could see Cardinal's like that again. Nowadays, seeing the same P42, quad Amfleet and sleeper cars gets boring. Although they do get to their full 65mph potential in Kenova. ^_^

  • I know amtrak hosts a foliage journey in WV following the New River, but who hosted the steam?

  • The New River Train did. This video was shot back in 1992 when steam was much less costly. Today, its powered by Amtrak but still maintains lots of private cars. I believe thats what you're thinking of.

  • wow lol. so they just tryed to use steam when possible. Maybe its because im only 15,..? lol I only know about my era i guess.

  • great show of smoke and steam

  • WOW

  • Well Done Shot here, interesting meet to!

  • Cool!

  • Sweet!

  • WOW
