Hi barockychocky, nice work on the videos. I think they are a really important part of Sydney's heritage, especially some of the tucked away ones. Do you know how to find out which ones are no longer used and possible to buy?
I agree, of course. I love how no two are exactly alike and the styles vary enormously to suit their environment (not that you can tell from my mock-monumental images).
I don't know where to find out about decommissioned substations. Perhaps finding an Energy Australia insider? They do come up now and then. There's one currently for sale at 42 Philpott Street, Marrickville.
Thanks Rossgo2! If the one you've mentioned is the "Art Nouveau" one on the Parramatta Road intersection - yeah, I've snapped that one!
I got a list from Energy Australia years ago and have been photographing them since. You may have noticed that they're Photoshopped though to make them more as they were when first built ie without graffiti, broken windows etc.
NICE VIDEO, OLD SYDNEY SUBS ARE AWSUME, Is there a part two, cause there is sub at Auban wich we retrofited, cause it's heritage listed. You might wanna get a shoot of it to add to your collection.
