I know this is going to sound weird but I find the XJ to be one of the best smelling luxury cars around. The creamy leather does let off a rather wonderful smell. It definitely adds to the traditional look and feel to a Jag.

It is a truly gorgeous car. Jaguar DNA running through it for all to see. Right back to the MK 7 & then the 420 which preceded the XJ6. Even my S Type shows this DNA, the way the roof & rear window blend in & down to the boot lid. The new XJ does not have that DNA. It is still a full member of the family, just not on the outside. The out going XJ has been radically changed on the outside but lives on underneath. A pity they didn't retain more style DNA.

I bought a Merc because I thought this Jag was so ugly. I'll buy the new XJ next year. Now that is a car that has a jaguar attitude. This just looks like a large X type. Worst jag ever made. BTW - the Merc - most unreliable piece of junk I ever owned. Even worse than a French car!

The BMW sedan of the time is a joke compared to the jag from that period. Big ugly horrible early 7 series and the 5 series. People buy jags to pose ? Mercs & BM's are more expensive !

2 door airbag trims have come away from the door cards and the ones around the roof and on the A pillar have warped and now have gaps and the misalignment makes them look crap. The plastic pieces on the door that are painted to match the leather have had the paint flake off. The wood trim on the ashtray cover has come off. The catches on the cup holders break. The exterior door handles now squeak like two bits of rusty metal rubbing together. All on a well cared for car ! Wish I'd gone Jag!

U completely miss the point. BMW can offer you whatever style of PLASTIC wood U want. They don't use the real wood that Jag & whoever made Ur head use. Ur post is such crap that it doesn't need pulling apart. I bought 5 series & brother has a V8 Jag. Mine is just trouble & apart from one spate of warning lights coming on early on, he has had NO trouble. My leather has gone patchy, interior door handles & bits have broken. It has had two failed control units for the Valve timing advance.

For the record, my wife's 1990 323 was a disaster which had a failed transmission at only about 70,000 miles and 2 replacement power steering racks/ failed power windows etc, Gave it to our son it remained troublesome - it's sat 2 yrs in his back yard. He has a 2002 Alfa 166 I'd back for quality against the 535 any day.

Well I've worked on them for 25 years & owned them long before I ever had a bmw. When I worked at a dealer called Pymble prestige, most of the customers who bought Porsches and Ferraris / Lambos etc. ended up in XJS Jags. That was because they were about the only semi exotic that you could just get in and drive every day. They got tired of having a car 2 weeks then us having it 2 weeks on an ongoing basis. And if U say jags are dearer to maintain U HAVE N'OT had dealer experience.

My brother's 1985 series 3 jag was passed onto a friend & now has over 220,000 on the clock it's been a great car. I rebuilt an engine for it at only 50,000 miles odd only because the servicing dealer servicing it had NEVER maintained corrosion inhibitor in the engine. It hasn't been opened up since. BMWs of that period are horrible. - hard riding, crap seats, noisy engines. U are just repeating nonsense U've heard. U got a 750 that's faster than this ? Where do U live.?. .. fantasyland ?

Not big on the vid screens in the back seat...I managed to grow up without them, and besides, they detract from the vibe of the luxury interior. SInce they are really only for kids, as adults will probably be relating to each other, I see their use only for computing screens...but then it's more about being chauffeured in the back in the back seat...and it's more fun to drive than be driven in a Jag.

I just bought the XF SV8 to add to my aging S-Type V8. When I asked why I couldn't get the leaper (that is what the hood ornament is called in Jaguar circles) I was told that it was for predstrian safety reasons. It would appear that we all have to adhere to the Euro safety standards which require that vehicles be human friendly when hitting them at 60 Km/h. I wonder how they handle this on a rolls royce
