It is very sad that he died such an early age, otherwise he would have been the greatest Sitarist on this planet. Musician like Nikhil babu never comes to this planet every time.
So much beauty in His playing! And at the same time Peace and Humility ! Nowadays rearly to find such Musicians who are looking for the Soul and not for Name and Fame. Nikhil-Da is my greatest and soulfulliest Sitar player i ever heard !
Much os this is so simply played. Yet is is so complex and so, so beautiful. That meend from dha to sa kills me every time I hear it. No one was like Nikhilda on sitar.
Melodius and melancholy raag like Jogiya can only beplayed to its maximum beauty by Nikhil Banerjee. He was the Greatest Sitar player of the Indian subcontinent.
The musicians of today are after money and fame. They don't have the feel of the raags and play music without truly understanding the central theme which is not from this world.
So if spirituality is not there then music sounds so flat.
Nikhil Banerjee never sacrificed the principals that were laid very early. If he wanted to play a 100 minute raag then so be it.
If you're looking for something this speed, search for "vilambit gats". If you're looking for somethign with this melody outline look for other versions of "Rag Jogiya". Also you could ook for other morning Ragas or Ragas from the Bhairav thaat. Those should lead you to some similar sounds. :)
IM sorry. PLEASE DON T READ THIS you will die in seven days if you don t post this comment on 10 videos in the next hour. if you do, tomorrow will be the best day of your life
Heard him for fifteen years; still do on recorded stuff. NEVER, EVER did he disappoint us. To quote a hard-core music-buff from his (and my) home-city: "Nikhil is either very, very good... or sublime." Yes, we miss you Nikhil-babu; you left too soon.
